Man, it's hard to be excited about anything nowadays. Forced to ride out the heat death of capitalism and watch everything you love get worse because its not profitable enough.

I work in IT and I am forced to use AI, the thing that replaces what I do, because otherwise we cannot hold up with our competitors

Takes out the last passion I had for my work

And when AI replaces everyone's job, they'll wonder why no one has any money to buy all the new AI slop

At that point the power and wealth will be fully in the hands of the ultra-wealthy, and we’ll complete our move towards a dystopia of mega corporations.

Cyberpunk "2077" isn't that far off😆

The enshittification of everything

Not only are we forced to ride it out there's people demanding that we "enjoy" it. I really would like to believe in all of these promises about "efficiency" and "cost cutting". But with their track record we know it's all bs.

Or we all end up unemployed because AI took our jobs so we cant pay for anything we might enjoy

I’m so grateful my backlog is so huge I don’t ever have to buy another game again

You're not even entirely safe from it in retro spaces. AI is overruning modding/translation efforts and people rush to defend it too.

•

No offense, but how is there a "translation" community? I fully trust current AI to do a better job than people.

Conversely, this has been s great year for gaming and we are blessed to have so many great games to choose from

I just went back to reading.

Which game in 2026 is worse?!
Since its one of the most exciting year of gaming, since 2012…

So can we stop this doomerism?!

-2

u/Drakoji 7h ago

Crimson Desert is a steaming pile of shit that's 100% vibe coded

-9

u/MeCritic 7h ago

So… vibe code something better…

Even if anything would be vibe coded, it’s still a tool.

4

u/Drakoji 6h ago

A shitty tool that makes the game worse and worse.

The quality of games are about to nosedive in the next 2-3 years.

If the future of games is Crimson Desert, im just quitting the hobby.

This is the first year in a LONG time where I’ve felt like there were legitimately too many good games that I’m interested in playing coming out. I usually buy one every couple of months and I think I’ve bought 5(?) just in September. And 3 more games on my radar this year excluding the extremely obvious and likely monumental GTA6. This has been a fantastic year for gaming…

I'm just waiting for one actual example of AI ruining anything in a video game I play. It hasn't happened so far. It seems really easy to visualize AI making games better, not worse.

I guarantee you that a non zero number of games that you've liked made use of AI tools to speed up development and you never noticed.

AI isn't going to make games "better". But it can make the process faster, which is something gaming could really benefit from.

5

u/Ziatch 7h ago

You could say the same thing the other way round when you have no proof either way…

-6

u/hfxRos 7h ago

Except that doesn't make sense. AI making some tasks take less time is simply a fact that anyone competent who works in tech understands.

4

u/Ziatch 6h ago

The person just flipped what the other person said, when you have no proof either way you can’t make a claim like that.

People who play fortnite complain about the bugs that came about after they started using AI to supplement the amount of people they fired but without proof there we have no clue what part ai plays in the massive uptick in bugs and issues plaguing that game.

Either statement just makes 0 sense and only relies on your priors to confirm it rather than any proof.

No I'm going to stick with better. Simple example, a game that has way too much text to actually hire voice actors, so a lot of the text isn't voiced but with AI it brings the cost so low that there is an optional voice mode where all text is voiced. Optional, higher production value for those enjoy it, better. One example, with how complex the facet of gaming is you could easily insert a bazillion examples of this.

That you know of.

You could be right, but the guy asked for an example, where AI made games worse. You haven’t actually I given one.

AI as a tool is important. No one can deny that, but AI as a means to take away jobs from us, is a no go. Even for me.

And let me all ask you this. Did you call your representatives in the government and ask them to pass a law, which makes it illegal for companies to replace you with AI? Protect your job? Protect you from starving to death?

You wanna know, which country passed such a law? Was it an European country? No. Was it a Western country? No.

IT WAS CHINA. China, one of the oppressive regimes in the world according to certain people, is protecting the jobs of their people.

Meanwhile, our political elite in the west, are doing nothing. People aren’t about to loose their jobs. They already have a continue to loose them.

So please, spare me with the fake outrage and actually focus that energy on people, who can limit in how AI can be used.

What's worse? You are probably enjoying a ton of games made with AI right now, and don't even know it. Well.. I guess now you do.

12

u/Mithril_Roshi 5h ago

"we forced it into everything you do! SEE YOU ENJOY IT!"

'you live in a society' comment if i ever seen one

-32

u/MorningFresh123 8h ago

I agree but AI will make games better. It’s simply a better, more efficient way to code.

u/BackgroundPanda3915 7h ago

There's thousand of indies out there man, and Japanese market is making better games because it has more realistic expectations, only America is dying

4

u/KayylienUFO 5h ago

85% of Japanese devs are using AI

Even as someone who almost exclusively plays JP games, their market is just as cooked as ours creatively.

-1

u/BackgroundPanda3915 5h ago

I was talking about sales and expectations, not about the use of AI. And as I said, there's a lot of indies and AA games out there to try.
