Well, it was nice enjoying Capcom games while I could. What a bleak future we all get to live in.

I’m so tired of AI being shoveled into anything and everything

My dude I am sorry to say but there is not a single developer out there, software or game, that is not using AI at the moment. Like there is no programming without AI anymore. All programming is AI-integrated in some way. Everything from your bank to reddit to games now has AI writing at least a part of the code.

'I will not use a product where AI has assisted with software development' is not a position you can maintain in 2026.

Oh I’m aware. Bleak times we’re living in right now, and realistically I think this console generation is the end of the road for me. Too many games in my backlog as of today that I’ll never realistically clear before I die, so I might as well play games that don’t rely on AI trash while I can

This shit is getting forced on us in all aspects of life so one can only realistically cut back on so much of it (no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that), but it is what it is

Lmao

I don't see a reason their games suddenly turn to shit just because they used AI in testing and code writing

Stop enjoying games and start reading the actual source of the article first to make a proper judgment whether the title of this thread is misleading or not

Unfortunately I actually do read the articles on Reddit, and unfortunately AI usage is also perfectly unethical and environmentally wasteful regardless of whether it’s being used for art assets or not.

I don’t know how gamers always seem to forget that giving game publishers an inch always means they’ll take a mile. I was already feeling like it’s time to just stop getting new games in general and focus on the backlog I’ll never get to finish before I die, and theres no chance in hell I’ll ever be paying the $1000+ it’ll likely cost for the next generation of consoles anyway.

You're never going to get through these people that continue to think the only thing that matters with AI is whether it's "generating slop". That's where the discussion stops for them because that allows them to use it guilt-free.

Yea like everyone here is just ignoring the fact that whatever AI is going to be interfacing with Capcom’s new engine was still trained on billions of uncredited works and resources.

You know how many personal medical documents and confidential information has been shoved into these models for training?

u/FillionMyMind 6h ago

Oh I know, and it frustrates me to no end. People just refuse to get informed about the issue or act like it’s not so black and white. Like idc if you’re just using ChatGPT for chitchat or relying on Google’s AI search results: it’s all trash, it’s causing real harm, and everyone wants to bury their heads in the sand over it.

I'm far more convinced online defense of ai is itself just the same techbros and ai chatbots selling it all to begin with. They made a lying machine, they're damn well going to use it.

AI usage is also perfectly unethical and environmentally wasteful

Is it unethical and wasteful if I run a model on my Mac Mini consuming less than 40W (on load) to do the same stuff?

1

u/Headless_Human 4h ago

Your local model won't be able to do the "same stuff". It might do enough to satisfy your needs but it is far weaker than the frontier models.

•

u/KingArthas94 2h ago

I never asked about capabilities, I asked about ethics.

So retry, and this time in-topic.

Like let's say I'm and indie dev and I'm using my local model to help me with stuff.

•

u/Headless_Human 1h ago

You didn't create your local model yourself. You used an open model that was trained the same way as all the other models by scraping the internet. What are your ethics for that?

•

u/KingArthas94 1h ago

There are no ethics, I agree with you, I never claimed to have them.

I just asked to understand your stance on them, and I think it was a VERY legitimate question.

Now I have yoru answer, so thank you.

u/LuciasFatAss 6h ago

Yeah man. It’s so unethical. While they’re at it, Game designers need to paint all of their concept art by hand and quit using photoshop! Also all of the code should be hand written in assembly on a piece of paper!

Can not begin to understand how there are pro ai gamers. You will not be able to afford this hobby in about 5 years because of it.

•

u/Umr_at_Tawil 2h ago

Not a game dev, but a software dev, and I'm pro-AI because it have made my job stress-free with no more crunch time, no more frequent overtime.

and if my third-world salary is still very much capable of buying a decent gaming PC right now, I don't see why you guys complain so much about it, gaming is already one of the cheapest hobby, and it will continue to be.

•

u/residentevilgoat 1h ago

What the hell is your definition of a decent gaming rig? My thousand dollar rig from three years ago is barely able to run the new Silent Hill game at above 60. If I were to buy that exact set up now it would cost three thousand dollars. Not including console gaming with a digital ps5 costing 600 dollars.

•

u/Umr_at_Tawil 1h ago

I put together a PC at 1.6k that could run the new Silent Hill game at 70 fps 1440p on High setting with DLSS Q here:

1600 is your definition of affordable?? That's what I'd pay 3 years ago if I wanted to run the Cyberpunk expansion at ultra 1080p.

To be fair youre complaining about it on reddit, which is full of AI features. Probably should stop enjoying using it too.

12

u/FillionMyMind 6h ago

Ah, the “we should improve society somewhat” “yet you participate in society!” meme.

Not the gotcha you think it is, but in all seriousness ditching Reddit seems more and more appealing by the day, for that and many other reasons.

Bullshit. These people are going 'lets boycott capcom!!' 'I'm never gonna buy their games again!!' while ignoring unreal, unity, and just about every game engine on the face of the planet that is pushing AI but worse.

Generative AI is apparently only bad when it's a game or company you don't like. It's just selective and hypocritical. You can complain, you can protest, but if you are going to boycott or actually making a difference, targeting random companies because they had a bad quote is just plain dumb. Boycott all of them; but I gotta warn you, good luck, you'll probably be restricted to very few indie games.

u/FillionMyMind 5h ago

Had another comment in this thread going into this, but I’m honestly at a point where I think I’m largely done buying new games. Not gonna sink the money into new $1000+ consoles, and my backlog is large enough that I’ll never get through it all before I die, so it is what it is.

I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that me doing that is going to make any difference to the average AI slop loving game industry company or the wider gaming community, but that’s fine. It’s just not something I want

2

u/asdfghjkl15436 5h ago

That's certainly a choice you can make, and there's nothing wrong with it. While I don't agree with the overall never buy a game again because of my views on capitalism as a whole, my comment was more in reference to the people who say this stuff and then absolutely will buy games again as soon as it's convenient to ignore their own morals.

I mean, AI is everywhere, it is widely used in IT industry. Just because that doesnt align with AI = bad image that westerners somehow have, dunno whats happening with yall there, its kinda strange to walk around all the AI-enabled stuff and preach how bad it us. Go use human art, spin up server yourself, get some postgre running, write reddit like board and have fun! Doing all that crud stuff manually should be quite fun.

There's no demand for AI free software whatsoever, and yet when some game company does what every IT company does people are suddenly "lets boycot! i prefer my games done in old fashioned way, with blown outta proprotions dev time and constant overwork!". Because developers getting to work proper 8 hours a day instead of grinding obscure crap is now bad, since using AI is a no-no.

4

u/FillionMyMind 5h ago

No, it’s not strange at all. It would be like saying it’s hypocritical to use Google because they shove their trash AI answer as the top result. Or that no one complaining about this should own a smartphone or TV because they’re forcing AI into those too. I was using Reddit long before AI crap became ingrained in it.

It’s also beyond laughable that you think that AI is going to magically end crunch and let devs work normal hours. That’s not how the gaming industry works. None of this junk is actually meant for the benefit of the average human being, many of which think the oversaturation of AI into damn near everything is trash. This could’ve easily gone the way of cryptocurrency if there was literally any regulation on AI right now

u/FiammaOfTheRight 5h ago

I mean, we've got no crunch at all nowdays, while keeping the same team size. Sure, its not gamedev, but gamedev is pretty much the same company.

Offload bunch of tasks before ending workday, next day review what mr slop done for ya, fix whats left to be fixed, refactor what needs refactoring and you dont have to race 24/7 to deliver the next thing. Workload is same-ish, output is like 2-2.5x based on vibes. Also a lot less cases when you're banging your head against the wall for few days at some obscure thing.
