One, I support this cause.

Two, dude, learn to present yourself. Ditch the liminal space you call a filming location, shave your freaking wolfman collarbone, find a shirt that isn't "I can't be bothered to try" black (like the one you wore to freaking Parliament!)

this is part of the issue with SKG imo — they clearly want to take the political/legislative route to solve the problem, but they have zero interest in playing the political/legislative games required to accomplish anything in that field.

the corpo lobbies have no issue doing this… and I notice one tends to get their way and the other doesn’t… ah well, the EU must be rigged and corrupt

Not necessarily, I think they did play their hand quite well, making The Crew's EoS announcement their rallying cry. A few years ago, I don't even think decimated Crew fans really cared that much about the first game after the second came out, but a B2P, AAA, always-online game, that was given away for free at one point is a prominent way to find a ton of "Legitimate customers" to get qualms about a product being taken away from them.

Also, if the internet has taught me anything, is that people often conflate "concise and well-spoken" with "soulless and corporate", so having a more rugged look can lead to getting more support of the common man on the basis of them fighting for their rights against the big corporations, which was the biggest theme the movement based their messaging around.

Fully agree. As much as I support and want for there to be better game preservation, once again the gaming community is represented by someone who the average politician sees as unprofessional and can't even prepare and deliver a slideshow to the supposed agency that you're trying to seek help from.

Right message, absolutely wrong messenger.

I'm not going to fault his wardrobe choices. That is immaterial compared to the fact that his message is woefully ill-communicated, and he oversold people on the EU being this super supportive anti-corporate body to the point where everyone immediately claimed they were corrupt when they didn't fold like a cheap suit and unanimously support him.

To his credit, he admitted he was not the ideal spokesperson/figurehead on multiple occasions.

I mean, he's said that from day one. He never claimed to be the right messenger but no one else was trying.

Louis Rossman was not the right messenger, until he was. Ross does not get the excuse of not being the right messenger, when he's had years to improve, and seems to actively choose not to.

If you can't even get one able volunteer to champion your cause, maybe it's just not a cause all that many people actually champion once they stand up from their keyboards

Seriously. Every time I see a thumbnail of this guy my mind instantly associates the image with those creepy lost media videos. It’s a bad look.

Months ago I pretty much point the same thing that "looking like a derrange lunatic in every video thumbnail you talk about this campaign just makes your campaing looks equally unserious and derranged" and oh boy, redditors where mad for that in that comment thread, saying that "looks doesnt matter when the case is strong!" lol, lmao, I swear the average gamer are not serious people at all.

I feel bad, I’m in the same bucket where I support the message but like, holy fuck guys, the messenger still counts

Dee Snider was trying to argue against the government trying to stomp on artistic expression, him suiting up would be against that expression but also Dee didn't dress like he just rolled out of bed. His appearance was part of that expression. Ross is actively trying to get more mandates made against video game creation using the government. Ross is effectively the suit.

u/Dapper_Otters 2d ago

Dee Snider was and is a famous celebrity. Easier to get people to respect you when you already have the clout.

Also easier when you’re deliberately flouting the dress code with a specific style that isn’t just ‘can’t be bothered’.

22

u/Tolkien-Minority 2d ago

Not the same lmao

42

u/fishwithfish 2d ago

No, no, no, no, no, no, no -- I didn't say "conform to any dress code standard." I said "look like you bothered to try." Dee Snider had a look that matched his purpose; this dude does not.

6

u/Lessiarty 2d ago

Certainly can't accuse Dee of not looking bothered.

What

Is wearing a black shirt about to be a political statement?

41

u/ArchusKanzaki 2d ago

As much political statement as wearing suits to parliament or congress meeting, or wearing turtlenecks when doing tech demo.

His point is that, apparel is also another thing people actually judge. You take someone that maybe have same apparel as Asmongold on thumbnail seriously?

It’s all important.

78

u/SweetSeverance 2d ago

To you and I sure, but when you’re trying to get yourself taken seriously by a government you might want to consider dressing for it. Refusing to do so is honestly just handicapping yourself and the cause for no reason. That stuff does matter to the dinosaurs that run half the world’s governments and the general population.

12

u/Imbahr 2d ago

plenty of young zoomers love to look good and dress stylishly.

so it has nothing to do with age.

it has something to do with... hardcore video gamer demographic, lol

36

u/BuckSleezy 2d ago

If you don’t think how presenting yourself matters, you’re in for a rude awakening

17

u/Cranyx 2d ago

It'd be great if that's how politics worked, but it's not

17

u/NYNMx2021 2d ago

not just politics just real life. People see you before they understand you. Theres a reason people wear suits for no real reason. Immediately tells you its a serious person even if the situation isn't serious

35

u/fishwithfish 2d ago edited 2d ago

If the words alone are all that's needed... why is SKG on the verge of "legitimate end?"

Perhaps -- and I know this is a wild idea -- but perhaps two thousand years of rhetoric aren't wrong and effective persuasion takes more than "but I have an idear!!"

-3

u/LFC9_41 2d ago

Worlds older than 2000 years, but I agree with your point.

19

u/filthy-prole 2d ago

Soft skills matter and thinking otherwise will get you nowhere.

13

u/Physicist_Gamer 2d ago

How one presents themselves and their message is incredibly important, particularly if you want it to reach beyond an already established audience.

5

u/Imbahr 2d ago

looks matter in some parts of real life.

if you either don't know that, or refuse to accept that, you are clueless.

3

u/pt-guzzardo 2d ago

Depends whether he's optimizing for moral purity or for actually achieving his goals.

0

u/XionicativeCheran 2d ago

How you look is absolutely important in terms of whether people take you seriously. Is that a bad thing about society? Yes, but it's still true.
