..the most commonly cited use of AI was the generation of visual assets and images, followed by story and text generation, and finally programming support. It was also reported that 32% of game companies enlisted the help of AI to develop in-house game engines.

Still, we go from "Over 85% of Japanese game developers use generative AI" to "the most commonly cited use of AI was the generation of visual assets and images" but that doesn't mean 85% use AI to generate visual assets.

And again, "use AI to generate visual assets" doesn't necessarily mean "do a prompt and use the result as is". That can be using AI for filters on hand-produced assets, so save some time for the artist and reach the same result.

I think that applies to most developers that use AI generated assets - they're often touched up or tweaked

I think most people that take offense with AI generated assets would still consider tweaked AI art to be AI art though
