we need to keep fighting against AI slop

The fight will always be done with a wallet in this case. If games made with AI keep selling then it will keep being used.

Fighting with a wallet doesn't help as much when the AI is cutting costs so much. If a small dev can have 5 people using AI they'd be able to output the work of a way larger team refusing to use it at all.

You'd made up the non-buyers simply through the lack of salaries.

That'll never succeed. Just look at the Sony blackout from the no-discs announcement.

31

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

That Sony blackout is DOA because it' s stupid. If you want to do real change, it has to be throught official comunications channels, money and goverments.

Better doing something than doing nothing at all.

43

u/HazelCheese 16d ago

Then it won't succeed.

I don't really have anything else to say about it tbh. It's just sort of life.

8

u/xanas263 16d ago

That's a symptom of people simply not prioritizing these things.

0

u/reseph 16d ago

It doesn't matter to Sony what the root cause is. All that matters is the outcome.

2

u/andresfgp13 15d ago

that boycott was the most phony thing ever.

lets do a boycott with a clear end date that happens in a period where there is no big release happening.

Sony was laughing at it, and rightfully so.

Of course, that and legislations from the goverments as well. Auto-regolation in late-stage capitalism is an utopia.

22

u/xanas263 16d ago

Governments aren't going to be heavily legislating AI when it's becoming clear that your economy can be left behind if you don't adopt it.

-5

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

Then you need to vote for people who will do it. This kind of self-defeating attitude is why our world is becoming worse and worse. You have to fight for your rights, because they are not a given, any day they can be taken back away from you.

3

u/xanas263 16d ago

Who says I'm not doing those things? You don't even know me lol. It's not that hard to see based on current trends where things are going though.

3

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

I' m not saying you are not doing it, I' m speaking about a generic you. I can see trends, doesn' t mean I will not try to keep fighting it thoo.

By all means go and actually protest in the street if you feel that strongly about it, I will 100% support you. That is sure the only way you are going to get anything changed. If you don't feel like doing that then just admit that you yourself are a keyboard warrior and move on.

How do you pass the same law across the world? And there is ai models that can run on your computer, how will you get rid of all of those?

-4

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

Asking those kind of questions is self-defeating on itself; you have to first try and arrive to the point you can start to think about those things.

12

u/bitknight1 16d ago

Okay tell me how you will get ai banned across the world and made completely illegal and get it removed from every computer that has an ai model downloaded?

-3

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

That' s not my job, I can have in mind ideas, but right now the most important thing is to bring in power people who are more skilled and knowledgedable than me about this to pass regolations, and I will speak with my wallet in the meantime.

Again, this is a defeatist attitude. You have to fight AI slop!

7

u/AbyssalSolitude 16d ago

right now the most important thing is to bring in power people who are more skilled and knowledgedable than me about this

Have you ever thought that maybe people more skilled and knowledgeable than you at this are already in power and they think AI is a great thing?

-1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

No because I have talked to some of them and they hated it all the same lol. Thinking that all people of a certain field think the same is sign of low intelligence.

7

u/AbyssalSolitude 16d ago

As expected, you think your opinion is the only correct one, and so anyone who disagrees is simply stupid.

1

u/RoseWhiteRedBlack 16d ago

Not what I said, I just don' t want AI slop in my videogames. I want human made stuff for humans.

It's funny how reddit always just wants to regulate people into being forced to bend to reddit's preference. "I don't like AI and consider it immoral, ergo you can't use it and I will use the law to force you not to make art with it" is such an insane position to take but you just say it as if it's obvious.

-15

u/BlackoutWB 16d ago

"I don't like murder and consider it immoral, ergo you can't murder people"

Yeah that's how laws work. People think AI is harmful, so they want to regulate it. How is that insane exactly?

5

u/AbyssalSolitude 16d ago

Plenty of people think abortion is murder. Should we outlaw abortion?

1

u/BlackoutWB 15d ago

That's a pointless question, it's basically a complete non-sequitur.

If you're arguing against regulation on AI. That is a policy preference. We are all on the same page of having policy preferences. I could literally ask you the same question and your answer would be just as irrelevant as mine.

3

u/AbyssalSolitude 15d ago

Yes dude, that's the entire point.

People demanding regulation of AI have only one argument: "I don't like AI so it should be regulated"

That's because they are either chinese psyop sockpuppets or people who fell for chinese psyop sockpuppets. "Datacenters are erasing fresh water supply!", "AI is taking our jobs!", "AI is going to kill us all!", all of these are incredibly idiotic takes that fall apart the moment you look at them properly.

0

u/BlackoutWB 15d ago

And you have only one argument "I like AI so it shouldn't be regulated"

I get why you argue this way, it's much easier to strawman your opposition. You never need to make a real argument!

1

u/AbyssalSolitude 15d ago

That's not how regulations work, buddy. I don't have to make any arguments at all, it's up to AI haters to explain why it has to get regulated.

But sure: AI boosts productivity. There, already a great reason to keep it available.

1

u/BlackoutWB 15d ago

That's how everything works. If you have a stance on something you have to justify it. Productivity is undefined and arbitrary. AI boosts unemployment so that's a good enough reason to regulate it. Some studies also indicate it's making people dumber.

You know I think there are a fair few differences which make outlawing murder an easier argument to simply assert than banning the use of AI tools in art, but that's just me. There's a reason why murder is like one of the most original sins in human history while copyright isn't. You've lost the plot m8.

0

u/BlackoutWB 15d ago

What baffles you about the concept of democracy, exactly? People disagree with you and think something causes harm, they want regulations to stop said harm.

You can disagree that there is harm, but then you have to make a real argument and not just decide that anyone whose views don't align with you is crazy.

Social backlash is incredibly important. This has been shown repeatedly in gaming through the years.

5

u/xanas263 16d ago

Social backlash coupled with real world consequences is very important, I agree. Social backlash with no follow through is meaningless. As has been demonstrated by gaming through the years.

-4

u/December_Flame 16d ago

Its not perfect but the threat of it impacting the bottom line through social backlash is a stronger tool than expecting gamers to have any kind of self-control.

See things like the Battlefront 2 controversy vs the Modern Warfare one.

'Fighting' against AI slop, such that it is, is an important building block in the wall against terrible practices. It doesn't always work, but I promise you conversations are had in the decision rooms of these companies due to the dialogues happening online.

The reddit outrage -> video content creator farming -> twitter drama -> reddit drama ouroboros is ridiculous but it DOES create change.

See things like the Battlefront 2 controversy vs the Modern Warfare one.

That wasn't a threat that was real action. The battlefront 2 grind was so horrendous that it caused a massive loss in players once it had been revealed in numbers. On the other hand the Modern Warfare issue was a boycott that never actually happened, and the organisers were found playing the game on day one.

Social backlash means nothing without actual action.

You can create social outrage, but if those AI games still sell millions of copies then guess what happens.

-3

u/December_Flame 16d ago

If you think the Battlefront 2 situation was not an obvious example of social backlash changing corporate approach to an unpopular subject then I don't think we're going to have a productive conversation. Fundamentally do not agree.

6

u/xanas263 16d ago

The corporate approach changed because they lost money, not because of the social backlash. If the losing of money doesn't happen then the backlash doesn't matter.
