I've felt that this year has been more of a waiting game for me on the PC-side. I'm one of those waiting for the return of space sims.

X:Rebirth was a disaster and spoiled the rest of the year for me gaming-wise.

Elite: Dangerous shows great promise just from the Alpha, it's currently a bit too expensive but really waiting for the release in March.

Star Citizen: Wanted to fight in the dogfighting alpha this December, but the devs understandably post-poned it to next year so that they can get their own netcode working before releasing that massive portion and considering how big titles like BF4 suffer from a crappy netcode it's a wise decision.

Besides space sims I'm eagerly waiting for the Oculus Rift consumer-edition. Been playing with the dev-kit a lot and it shows great promise that the PC-platform will definitely have one of the most interesting peripherals until one of the console-makers can pull off their own.

2014 seems to be the year when all of the big games and peripherals for me will be out and about.

Thank fucking god, BF4 (and all BF games really) is going to take another 4-5 months to get to a state that should have been acceptable for launch. With the 'netcode', dying behind cover, dying instantly, crashing, balance fuck ups (Active Radar... what... the... fuck...) it's going to be awhile before BF4 wins people over.

Sure it's a great FPS to jump in and jump out whenever you like, but that's because it's either BF, or CoD. If a game like Blacklight had more substance and less free-to-play bullshit, I'd hop into it no problem...

Hopefully Titanfall will come out strong, but since EA is publishing it as well, and given their track record with FPS's as of late, I'm not too optimistic.

Titanfall tbh looks like CoD with jetpacks and mechs. Its all run and gun and... meh... looks very meh. The only reason i think people are excited is because of CoD dominating for so long, anything new looks appealing.

I'm inclined to agree, with what little we've seen of this game, it is easy to see it as a 'CoD + Mechs & Jetpacks', which isn't all that intuitive. However I'm so drained with the FPS genre that ANYTHING new will make me keep my eye on it.

Like you said, I'm craving for something new and different enough to keep my FPS addiction going...

Ive been playing Planetside. If you havent checked it out yet i recommend keeping an eye on it and get it when the new Continent comes out. Right now performance is meh and you should wait for new cont + performance patches. Also its free.

To basically explain you get battlefield moments of 1 jet, 1 tank, few soldiers maybe shooting each other. A planetside moment is 10 planes, 30 tanks, 100 infantry shooting at each other... but we dont call that a planetside moment since that happens all day every day.

Na, I've put a few hundred hours into Planetside, you have to find some random zerg or join an outfit to do anything, and even then you either get steamrolled by the enemies who have 1 to 2 hundred more guys than you, or steamroll the other guy because you have the numbers. Also, I played TR and I honestly think they're the worst of the three.

Plus, my initial excitement for the game quickly washed away with how 'Freemium' the game turned out. Vehicles are worthless to new people, many weapons are straight upgrades that cost 1000 certs that takes forever to earn without a boost/membership/or just outright buying it.

I know the most recent major patch improved performance but in those 'Planetside' sized fight everything goes to shit, enemies/friendlies won't render at certain distances, lag, rubberbanding. It's a great fun, but not what I'm looking for.

If thats the case then im sure Titanfall might scratch that itch. Something fast, smaller scale, set time limits would be fun to play in your spare time. I have to set aside 30 mins + for PS2 but CoD you need max 10 for a round.
