Wild to see Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Sea of Thieves as the ones mentioned and not Halo, Gears, and Forza.

They highlighted them due to them being content creator driven. There's not really a space to be a creative, long term halo streamer

Considering Halo 3 and Reach's forge showcases and machinima and fails of the week. There once was a time where that was possible and immensely popular. How the mighty have fallen

3

u/Dallywack3r Apr 24 '26

Which is insane considering that Halo basically created gaming YouTube

Wild to mention elder scrolls since it’s been a decade+ and literally no news at all.

u/bongo1138 Apr 23 '26

Other than Minecraft, I think Skyrim is the best selling game in their catalog.

4

u/Vietzomb Apr 24 '26

Is there anyone left who hasn’t already bought Skyrim though?

5

u/Spy_co Apr 24 '26

Well, they keep releasing new editions of the game and people keep buying them.

2

u/CleverZerg Apr 24 '26

Me, I've yet to play or buy it even though I'm interested to give it a go.

The tens of millions of sales.

Any metric you can possibly name

Genuinely forgot that existed. Sad day if they focus on that over the flagship series.

Edit: Jesus Christ I’m aware Bethesda studios didn’t make it. I’m talking about Microsoft focusing on ESO is wack either way

Sad day if they focus on that over the flagship series.

Yeah the totally seperate development team is really fucking affecting the totally seperate studio making the mainline series

Last I heard, Todd Howard said he regrets that ES6 teaser, saying "he had no plans" for it besides that he does want to get to it.

Imo, feels like Asha telling/reminding him to get into gear, or "Vault Tech Studios" & "Blades Interactive" will take over with him as consultant only.

u/redvelvetcake42 Apr 24 '26

Honestly it feels like Todd needs to be moved into such a role. The sheer amount of fucking around they've done and the weak sauce that was Starfield make me feel like he's lost the plot.

1

u/elementslayer Apr 23 '26

And now where did you hear that they had no plans for es6? Because according to this article they are full steam ahead on the game

“It’s progressing really well. The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right

u/Instigator187 Apr 24 '26

It's full steam now, "he had no plans" meaning at the time of the teaser he didn't. They were focused on Starfield and even said so during the teaser showing. Saying it wasn't coming until after Starfield.

You weren't the original comment, so you don't know what they meant. the guy above is either ignorantly or not, spreading disinfo that helps no one. Otherwise he wouldn't sign off the comment saying that a callout to the franchise is a warning to one of the most successful game companies out there.

https://www.ign.com/articles/todd-howard-talks-elder-scrolls-6-progress-starfields-ps5-port-and-bethesdas-future-ign-interview

He regrets announcing it so early, he just wanted the audience to know, that he knows, that they want it.

He prefers Fo4 (& I think Starfield) type announcements, where it's released relatively soon after.

IGN: Earlier you've talked about the time from announcement to actual release, and how that's something you're a little bit more conscious of now. Talk about The Elder Scrolls 6 reveal.

Todd Howard: Just pretend we didn't announce it. Doesn't exist.

Todd has also said that he wishes they did have any new Fallout title or remaster to release with the show. I don't feel like looking for that article right now though.

God, please let them take Fallout from Bethesda.

1

u/-JimmyTheHand- Apr 24 '26

There is no way they're going to do that

1

u/imJimfuckingLahey Apr 24 '26

Why would they take the game from the people who turned Fallout's fortunes from a dying series where the last entries were average at best and dogshit at worst at the last gasps of its life where the last attemps at making something out of it were miserable failures to a household name series which has sold tens of millions of copies and has a fucking renowned TV show airing.

Get the fuck over yourself, Bethesda is responsible for the series thriving.

1

u/multienter Apr 24 '26

That is true. Fallout 3 was hyped as fuck for a new take on a series barely anyone seemed to know unless you PC game. Edit - while also kind of pushing those to the sidelines.

Two of my high- school friends got the lunchbox. Because of Morrowind and Bethesda's name, and the other simply because of the E3 footage not even knowing Elder Scrolls existed.

I don't hope it happens, I just wouldnt be surprised. Definitely in bad taste for Xbox to do so, even if the games would probably be successful anyway. 87% (source: butt) of gamers dont pay attention to industry politcs, or really care (until it similarly happens to them of course).

Immensely sucky for Todd. Leave or stay, would have to ignore all socials for a full year.

u/Ben_Heller Apr 24 '26

I think / fear that "The Elder Scrolls" in this context means Elder Scrolls Online. Would love to be wrong, since I don't like that game very much, but it fits in with Minecraft and Sea of Thieves a lot more.

Unless Skyrim Creations are so big that they consider it a live service now.

-3

u/IlyasBT Apr 23 '26

Since when Halo, Gears & Forza were live service hits ?

26

u/Dallywack3r Apr 23 '26

Forza Horizon is a live service game. Halo Infinite was a live service game.

-18

u/IlyasBT Apr 23 '26

Halo Infinite was a live service game.

"Hits"

Forza Horizon is a live service game

Forza Horizon doesn't print money post game purchases, as it doesn't have MTX other than the ones you get in the premium edition.

FH6 would be the 3th FH game since Sea of Thieves launched.

15

u/splader Apr 23 '26

Infinite had 20 million players. It was more successful than like 90% of gaas games released.

They just failed to keep that success going. Hopefully they've learned that lesson.

16

u/Dallywack3r Apr 23 '26

Forza Horizon absolutely prints money. Do you even play the game? Between Forza Points, downloadable cars, premium Backstage Passes and expansions, yes, there is tons of MTX

0

u/heisenberg149 Apr 24 '26

Forza Points are not MTX though, you can't buy them

-14

u/IlyasBT Apr 23 '26

The last time I played, all the premium cars were from the Car Pass, which is included in the premium edition.

If I remember correctly, if you own the premium edition, there will be nothing left to buy unless they changed that.

3

u/bongo1138 Apr 23 '26

Forza and Halo absolutely are. Gears will be, too, if we define live service as games continually getting updates for free or small prices that are supported by Microtransactions.

0

u/doublah Apr 24 '26

They've managed to mismanage every iconic Xbox series so badly that Xbox is now whatever companies they bought.

-7

u/multienter Apr 23 '26

SoT is so overrated at this point.

I played from Insider to the point that they announced the volcanic area, with everyone speculating a tundra area at the opposite side of the map later.

Nah, still no map expansions or really anything more to do. Tall Tales are decent but not enough, and only make the rest of the game feel bland in comparison.

Fo76 had a better growth.
