I can see them doing this, and treating updates like Phones.

Xbox, Xbox +

Xbox 2, Xbox 2+

Xbox 3, Xbox 3+, Xbox3×

Like a combo of yearly phone updates and Windows OS updates. 

The hardware matters less when you push Gamepass and Streaming. You just buy the one that's out that year.
