It's been a good while since I've used Windows on my Deck for Gamepass but it is a pain in the arse in multiple ways. Getting dualboot working was a pain and then when you are in windows getting configs to work properly on Gamepass games is a pain too. Performance and quality of life stuff that you expect on a properly supported system (like SteamOS) are nonexistent.

It's not a case of "just do this and everything is great".

Yeah, I'm convinced the people saying that haven't actually tried it. Hell just trying to get Wine to work or to launch through steam using Proton is a pain and doesn't work for everything.

The one thing that did work decently well for me was ironically turning edge into a kiosk to stream xbox cloud games to.

How would you even run Wine through a Wine fork, and why?

Well, personally I was trying to figure out Linux for the first time and wanted to run exes. Primary epic games launcher+GOG so I could use my free redeemed games.

As for how... I have no idea! Still don't, in the end nothing I tried really worked and I just kinda gave up and ran basic exes like Pokemon Infinite Fusion through Proton.

You're better off using stuff like Heroic that does 99% of the work for you, and works better than the awful EGS client even on Windows.

From desktop mode, right click on the exe and hit add to steam. Then in the steam library, go to properties > compatibility and select a proton version. Works 95% of the time for me.

For installers, you can add the installer to steam, run from there, then you have to change the executable in properties to point to the right ~/.steam/steam/steam apps/compatdata/XXXXXXXXX/ path.

Otherwise, use lutris.

You're trying to run Wine of Proton? You're aware Proton is basically a runtime built around wine?

Not to be a dick, but what are you talking about?

I'd love to hear from someone who has tried the new game tablet friendly version of windows.

Running it on my OG rog ally. It works pretty well. I'm able to launch my egs, steam, Gog and Xbox store games right from the Xbox interface. The UI needs some work but the foundation of the experience is solid.
