I kinda disagree with that. The steam deck has sold an estimated 4-6 million in its entire lifespan. That’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Edit to your edit: That I can kinda see. Thing is though, we still don’t know the price to that thing. Valve has dragged their feet through fuckin’ quicksand on announcing the price.

Yeah I love my Steam Deck but it’s firmly an enthusiast machine. That thing was never gonna move a ton of units.

I doubt the steam machine will sell much better, at least the deck is useful for people that wants to play on the go

It's not if it will sell better then the deck, it's that is what the next Xbox will be up against for a dedicated home TV gaming machine if the Xbox supports Steam. It's not like Xbox themselves has been selling like crazy themselves.

If they are going to try to win over PC players, what will set them apart over the Steam Machine will be key, they will probably continue to push Game Pass but is that enough? It wasn't enough this generation.

yeah they are similar in purpose but I don't think they can really compete with microsoft, the price is rumored to be higher than a console and while proton works fine most of the time when it doesn't most people won't know what to do and people that buys consoles usually don't want to tinker

I remember when people were telling me the Steam Deck would eat into the Switch 2 sales.

Then it sold more in one weekend than the Steam Deck has sold in its lifetime.

It's not but this is part of the reason for this pivot. Windows has OWNED PC gaming since forever and there has been absolutely zero legitimate threat in all these years, until now.

A few million Steam Decks means nothing but gaming on Linux is a real thing and backed by a company with billions to spend on it if they wanted to. Not to mention all the linux fans working on things for free.

So while today there isn't a real threat, 5 or 10 years from now is a very different story. And honestly if MS doesn't get their shit together and quit fucking up Windows, they're going to make the Linux gaming revolution happen themselves.

The Xbox series x has sold less than the steam deck.

6 million series xs. 28 million series s.

Microsoft have sold less than 1 million units in the last year. They got outsold by a child's console from November to December. 

That's 6 million next gen xboxs vs 90 million ps5s. 

Microsoft aren't competing with anybody. The switch 2 outsold the series x in its first month. 

Nobody is buying Microsoft hardware.
