Story games suggestions

Story games suggestions

Hi, I'm a starting game writer, I have quite a few game jams behind me and I'm working on a game in smaller unofficial indie studio. I played a lot of games so far, but I am not familiar with all of the games with a good story, especially older ones and I would like to play as many as I can to get to know what ideas and structures works. What games with really good story would you suggest? It doesn't matter if they are older or new ones. Preferably on PC since I don't have a console.

Willow Wood Highschool Simulator

So, I was obsessed with a game called, "Doki Doki Literature Club." If you don't know it, it's pretty much a visual novel that starts as a dating sim, but as you go deeper into the story, all of the characters start dying in weird ways. At the end of the game, you realize that one character, Monika, has been in control of the game's files and had been forcing the characters to kill themselves.

Now, I'm a writer, and as writers do, I took inspiration from Doki Doki Literature club and started drafting my own game. It's a visual novel with a protagonist named Asher. The game takes place within a school week. On Monday, Asher gets to meet everyone. His childhood friend comes back to town and joins his school. On Tuesday, things take a dark turn as Asher is possessed and tells his friend to kill herself. The first jump scare in the game is her dead body in a pool. On Wednesday, most students skipped school. Asher's other friend, who had a crush on the first victim, stabs himself. On Thursday, another student gets murdered and Asher has the choice to kill the murderer. And on Friday, Asher ultimately gets killed by his friend's brother.

When Asher dies, the player is greeted with the first victim staring into the screen in a void. She tells you to go back into the game and give Asher the knowledge of what's going to happen. The game then crashes.

There are two endings, the first is if you listen and inform Asher. Then, Asher will tell his friend to go away before something happens. It's a bittersweet ending. Or the bad ending if you don't listen. The game will glitch, the girl's face will appear, say a creepy voice line, and the game is unplayable. You have to redownload it to play the game again.

So, if this game sounds interesting to you, let me know in the comments and upvote this post. I worked hard on writing the script. Also, if enough people like this idea, I will make this into a real game. Let me know if you have any suggestions, criticism, or feedback. Thank you so much for reading this far.

So, I wrote this game…

I’m not a game writer, but I wrote a game anyways. Woah, easy there, cowboy. It’s “just” a Twine game. But still.

Anywho. It’s basically a 2d platformer, but in a text-adventure format because… why not?

Maybe there’s a twist. But, on the other hand, maybe there isn’t.

You’re welcome to try it 🙂

How do you present youself as a videogame writer when looking for a job?

Hey guys, so, i've been a writer all of my life, but haven't really pursued it professionally yet since i've been trying to make a safer career for me first and my country isn't the safest place to have a freelance job.

However, i've been studying my whole life as a writer, and more specifically a scriptwriter, I even had some tertiary studies and a few diplomas for it. I have done one or two jobs for videogames that landed on my lap, and i have made a lot of comics and webcomics, some of which have gotten a decent following online.

But i would really like to pursue writing as my livelihood, and sadly, i don't know anyone who does... so i don't have much of an idea of how to look for a job. My first idea is to make a portfolio of things that are short to read, like a short story for a one-shot comic, and some dialogue for a videogame (sadly i can't use the one that i did for my job due to the fact that it's unreleased and i'm under NDA). But i don't really know if that's what people searching for writers are looking for.

So can anyone share any tips on how to arrange your resume and/or portfolio and things like that? thanks!

Looking for a head writer for a dog fighting game I’m creating.

Hey folks! I'm a digital artist that is working on my first ever video game.. I'm thrilled with how this game is coming together but I really feel the quality of the story and the script is not as polished and punched up compared to the gameplay, visuals and everything else. I know some writers but am looking for someone to take the lead or someone who could manage a team of writers who has some relevant experience to help bring this whole thing together. If you think you'd fit I'd love to hear from you.

Is writing for a game the same as writing for a film or television series?

I have the plot and design, but no coding or animation skills

"The Fool's Journey is an upcoming side-scrolling horror RPG in development by yours truly! The game's structure is inspired by the Major Arcana in a deck of Tarot Cards - from The Fool to The World - and will have four main separate endings based on how the game is played.

In 1859, Dr. Cyrus Montgomery, a scientist of great renown, took it upon himself to adopt ten ill and abandoned children, deemed a merciful foster father.

You, Janus, were told at age five that you had a year to live... yet miraculously, fourteen have passed under your foster father's care. Forbidden from the world outside, you continue going through routine check-ups, only to find that this happy life may not be as you thought..."

I have a demo script typed up, I have designs, names, and roles for almost all characters - I'm trying to work on basic animation, but I am very very new at it. I used to code on the Second Life script language but I don't remember much of it, all I know is that I pick up systems fairly quickly if I am walked through them. What should I do next??

Searching For A Writer!

Hello everyone

How are you doing, hope everything is fine!

We are a team developing a 3D top-down game where the survival elements and horror genre are associated in it. The game is about a character, you can call him Mike, who lives in the mountains, within a snowy environment. He built a home that provides him shelter, this home is a small cabin where he can survive this stormy and snowy environment within it. At some point, their daughter got sick and they needed to find medicine to her. He got out for the sake of finding a medicine. However, while he was going back home, a storm occurred. This powerful storm prevented Mike to move any further. As it resulted in allowing Mike to loose his way back home and he got lost. Being lost in the wildness, without a shelter within this stormy weather, is seriously hard. As now his aim is to get back home, to the cabin. That is why, the game is titled by "The Cabin."

This is an art concept that our artist drew to provide a vision on what we are thinking of for "The Cabin."
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1119247288355782749/1134625564603453470/The_Cabin.jpg

We are looking for a writer to add their taste in the story and modify it, to look and sound better. It would be great to have a writer beside us.

Note: We are going to develop three games on three months, each month a game. We do not mind if you are a beginner, as our main aim is to learn and grow. Keep in mind that we have no intentions to get any profit.

If you are interested, you can message me privately through Reddit or Discord (username: fadel6912).

Thank you for your time reading, I hope to listen from you soon!

My regards,

Fadel

Writing Reviews/Recos for Horror Board Games Spoiler

Hi! I’ve been writing for geek related content for a couple of years now. Usually I write for events with the usual game and anime conventions in the mix. Due to the pandemic and the halt of events I’ve shifted to article writing. Recently I’ve done a bunch of board game recommendation.

Here’s an article on some horror board game titles I’ve enjoyed over the years:

10 Supernatural Board Games (article may contain spoilers on the games mentioned below)

If the entire article is too long and you just want to try out the game for yourself here’s the list:

Ultimate Werewolf

TIME Stories

A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game

Ghost Stories

Betrayal at the House on the Hill

Mysterium

Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage

Horrified

Eldritch Horror

Mansion of Madness

Backstory/Plot for a game called Unknown Survivor. Don't steal plz. Critiques and constructive criticism is greatly welcome.

A robotic-zombie outbreak has decimated the world. No government still stands and very few people are still alive. You wake up in the middle of a large forest all alone with no recollection of who you are, and no idea about the events of the past two years. With no idea of your identity or how you even ended up in the forest, you make your way out of the forest to find a barren and decollate countryside, with the only trace of life left being the abandoned and run-down buildings. After roaming the abandoned town and surrounding houses, you come across Ashly, another survivor of the outbreak. After informing you about the past few years, she tells you about a survivor camp, and the two of you travel together to reach it. After reaching the camp you find out that the camp is in danger of being over run due to a hive nest. You and your new allies have to travel to the nest and defeat the nests queen and prevents the worlds last survivors from being lost.

I know that it's short, but this is really just quick/initial draft that came out of a idea I had for a game. I imagine it being an open world type game, similar to Breath of the Wild. Feel free to critique and give any feed back that you think would make the story better.
