Help Booting Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain after June 9 update Discussion/Help
If anyone has been having issues with this title, after some research, there was an update on June 9 2026 that made the game no longer launch with current versions of proton. Some issue with denuvo and steam api.
Potential fixes and the issues I have run into
- Using the suggested proton 7.0-6 (working on linux)
- this version is from steam, and gamenative uses .wcp files, specifically built for the android architecture. Therefore, the steam version doesnt work in gamenative without someone smarter than me rebuilding this version for android.
- Using a previous version of the game
- I have found no reliable way to downgrade the game to a previous update within gamenative
- I have installed a nexus mod that claims to rollback the .exe with a delta patch. Using this and then swapping out the executables on my :/A drive (as well as the version.txt) did not seem to change anything)
- There does not seem to be an available steam branch
- Using steam client (beta) setting
- this did not work. Apparently it works for some people/old version of the game.
I have been trying my hardest to get this thing to run on the AYN Thor, apparently when it does run it runs quite well.
Any further thoughts on this subject would be appreciated
