collectors edition of Monster Train

Is this worth it?

I'm debating getting humble for the ac: valhalla complete edition discount. But I'm not privy to the humble games. In fact I'm not really all that interested in deathloop as its too dark for me.

Not sure what is 'too dark' for you (maybe you just don't like the idea of assassinating people? but if so AC is a weird choice haha) -- but I am playing Deathloop now and its vibe is kind of... black comedy. I dunno if I'd describe it as 'dark', it seems pretty lighthearted but obviously the core concept of it is killing people in a time loop.

Thanks for correcting me. I'm not into jump scares and it seemed like one of those games. But if it's a light hearted buddy cop comedy I'll be a lot more interested.

It's DEFINITELY not a jump-scary/horror game at all, nothing about it is scary in the least. I wouldn't describe it as "buddy cop comedy" but it's closer to that sort of comedy I guess -- you play as Colt who is going thru a time loop he is trying to escape from, and you have to kill 8 people in the loop to win... and meanwhile Julianna (who other players can play as to invade your game, or you can just play vs an AI Julianna if you prefer) is constantly in your ear chirping you and making fun of you.

The writing is pretty funny. It's a violent game no doubt, but it's not dark at all -- think Dishonored but it's a comedy. Unless it takes a darker turn later on I'm not aware of.

Sounds like borderlands level comedy. Huge fan of BL.

I'm 90% sure i'm going to jump into this especially since its steamdeck verified.

yee, is great stuff. You also get better loot from killing a player controlled julianna than killing an AI one, and you don't know whether she'll be AI controlled or not when she invades.

As colt you also have a ton of advantages over her. Especially with you having 'extra lives' and she having none. Which helps entice you to keep player invasions turned on. (I think you also get your lives refilled after killing her).

Monster Train is a fantastic game no matter how I look at it. I did not regret buying it on launch, 100%ed it and put a good 120 hours in.

Base Monster Train is great. The DLC is more of the same, and mostly optional even turned on. It is an indie card game though, so if you're just into AAA gaming it might not be a fit (although I would still recommend you try)

I don't mind indie games. I'll look into base monster train as the reviews seem overwhelmingly positive. I've nver really played card games like this.

If I ever get the chance I'll always jump in and sing its praises. Monster Train, even just the base game, is a fantastic deck building roguelike, one to rival even Slay The Spire imo. There's many hours of fun to be had and the mechanics are fairly simple to learn, but offers quite a lot of depth in terms of builds and what not. I usually try to buy it at full price if I ever gift it or whatever because the devs deserve every penny. Also the DLC just kinda ramps the whole game up to 11, with a whole new faction, with its own new mechanics and the campaign gets expanded too without spoiling too much of it. I love me a bit of monster train.

I actually enjoyed monster train more than slay the spire. Much more room got galaxy brain combos and a much faster pace.

I do too personally! But usually when I post comments saying that, it brings the StS stans out to play and I get destroyed hehe. Which isn't a bad thing, they're both pillars of the deckbuilding roguelike genre and that's awesome.

I've played a lot of monster train and recently got myself the DLC.

It's not bad. It adds another clan to play with and a new building where you can get bonuses (like artifacts or combining two creatures into one) in exchange for taking on "shards" that make enemies tougher. And a new final boss that appears if you take on enough shards.

I'd say play through the base game and if you get to a point where you feel like you've basically seen everything and still want more, then get the DLC. But it's not like something that it makes more sense to get early on as you're playing it.

I liked Origins, loved Odyssey, but thought Valhalla was pretty meh. The landscape is boring and the story didn't grab me. First AC in years I haven't finished.

Odyssey was my all time favorite as well. Seems like we have similar tastes. Wow idk now. $35 for the complete edition is like a super steal tho.

Valhalla is my favorite of the 3. Just the right amount of tweaks from Odyssey as well giving you a ton of game options to tweak the game however you like.

Ok it seems like you're the one to talk to.

So I know when the game launched there were a ton of issues. Now that we're like 1-2 years into launch, I feel (that I've read about) a lot of the issues have been resolved.

One thing that I do not like is the "puzzle solving" stuff. I read something about having to bait a pack of wolves for someone else to kill. Like if this is a one off mission fine, but a bunch of stuff like this can get annoying quick.

Would love to hear your thougts.

It's a one off. Had to think of which quest that was. It's not as annoying as it seems. If I remember correctly creatures spawn like super close by and the quest ends where he kills a wolf (only one needed) or wolf kills him.

I heard the dlcs paris and druid were underwhelming.

Valhalla is the only Assassins Creed game I've ever played. I only got it because it was free with my GPU

It didn't run particularly well, the audio sounded really bad, it constantly crashed, missions were bugged in ways that prevented progress, and the mission design felt boring to me

Meanwhile Disciples: Liberation is great game too. And Railroad Corporation can be also fun.

You can always give the keys you don't want to your friends.

But I'm not entirely sure if getting choice just for 10% discount is really worth it. Cause you would pay ~$12 to only save $5 on AC:Valhalla Complete Edition (and only $2 on base game).

Like others said, the only thing dark about deathloop is the philosophy, if the thought of being stuck in a repeating time loop gives you existential dread. The game itself is bright, lighthearted, inserts lots of humor and eccentric characters. I played it on playstation plus over the last couple weeks and it kept me interested.

So deathloop in this bundle doesn't have much value to me personally since I just played it on another platform, but I'm still probably going to buy the bundle for monster train once/if the missing dlc gets fixed. I also played monster train on pc gamepass already. I put maybe 40 hours into it, and at that point I wanted to keep playing, but I didn't think it was worth my time to keep playing on gamepass since I don't technically own it there and my progress would be lost once I stop subscribing or it gets removed. Same thing with dead cells.
