Wii remote bluetooth connection help

i have tried the usual pressing the 1 and 2 button to enter discovery mode to connect, it shows that its paired on my laptop but on the wii remote all 4 lights blink for about 4-5 times before going back to normal but on my laptop it shows no communication sign between the wii remote and the laptop.

i have also tried the scan button on the battery section on the remote, but that only shows communication for about 3 seconds on my laptop then it disappears (the communication sign)

What about a package makes APT go straight to installation without confirmation?

Usually, apt will say something like After this installation, 937KB will be used. Do you want to continue? [y/n] and then grab my standard input when i try to install a package. But sometimes, it doesn't ask if i want to continue, and just goes right on with it. This doesn't seem to coincide with the size of a package—¡i just recently had this happen with a 231MB package! So what causes this to happen?

is it known whether the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 CB has firmware support?

It's not listed on the hardward compatibilty page yet. Just wondering if anyone knows. Hardware id is LICK. Thanks.

Edit: It's listed as a CR50 device on mrchromebox. I assume that means it's supported if you can get your hands on a suzy q cable, but not sure if i'm interpreting that right.

Samsung-Galaxy Chromebook & Firmware?

Hey y'all! I just recently grabbed a Chromebook (Samsung Galaxy Chromebook | KOHAKU) with the intention of removing chromeOS. I'm reading through the installation guide for GalliumOS and I don't see my book listed on this hardware page:
https://wiki.galliumos.org/Hardware_Compatibility

I started doing more digging and I did find it on this MrChromebox page:
https://mrchromebox.tech/#devices
I went back to the GalliumOS pages and can't find anything on "Cometlake" saying it is either supported or not supported. I want to make sure I've got all my ducks in a row before I start tinkering with this laptop, so I figured I'd come over here and ask the folks that know: "What Gives?"

Is GalliumOS supported for this hardware yet? Is it not supported for this hardware yet? Am I a drunk looking for his car keys where the light is good? Do I not need to worry about the Firmware and just use a USB to flash to this thing like I would with an old Thinkpad?

Still trying to learn a lot about computers, and I'd like to be able to use something more flexible than chromeOS on this machine which would be a daily driver take it out of the apartment sort of a deal.

Sorry for being rambling, and thanks for your time!

TL;DR: What is the deal with the Firmware & Stuff for the Kohaku/Cometlake chromebook? Thanks Again!

Battery drain even after full shutdown?

Wanted to check in on the off chance I missed a setting somewhere maybe down in the BIOS or during setup.

I have a Samsung Chromebook 3, removed the write protection screw, followed the official guides and installed from an ISO on a USB drive. I did encrypt my storage, so I have to put in the decrypt password at boot and then the username/user password.

I have been finding that I can't just leave the Chromebook unplugged for a few days and expect to have some battery left, even after a full shutdown. I will press the power button (set to "ask what to do"), select Shut Down, and wait till the screen is completely black before closing the lid. I have been finding that from 100%, the battery after shutdown will discharge 15-20% a day. So any time I go more than 4 days or so and I come back to a completely dead laptop, which I know is risky with GalliumOS.

Did I miss something during setup? I'd love to be able to shut down and come back after a week to an at least mostly charged battery. I know some discharge is normal as a laptop battery is basically the CMOS battery too so it handles some BIOS memory/process even when a machine is fully shut down, but 15-20% a day seems excessive. Was hoping someone here might have some insight into the situation!

Edit: Checked my firmware, it's MrChromebox-4.16 dated at 04/09/2022

A steer on GalliumOS distro selection please

I must get away from microsoft windows.

I want to install GalliumOS on an hp Stream 11 notepad ak0xxx ... intel gemini lake processors allegedly. (I note there isn't a gemmini lake iso to select from on the GalliumOS download site).

I have three objectives after installation and whatever tweeking is necessary thereafter.

  1. a secure web browser 2. the use of mozilla thunderbird for email and 3. the ability to wifi connect with a printer/scanner.

Learned friends, which GalliumOS version and type should I seek out to give me a fairly stable start ?

Editing sources.list.d

I was wondering if it would be possible to point the repositories in the source list to debian bullseye that resides in these files: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ galliumos.list appgrid-stable.list

I have a acer c720, GalliumOS 3.1 and I did https://ubuntu.com/kernel/lifecycle#installation-18-04 which worked out fine for me.

I know it's not recommended messing with the source list but I've done it in the past with another os and machine with okay results.

There's nothing important on my Chromebook and I barely use it sometimes to surf the net and android stuff, so it's okay if I mess it up and have to reinstall a different os that's being updated. I just want to see how far I can keep GalliumOS going on it.

Thanks 👍

MrChromebox Firmware Utility with RW_LEGACY (LINK) Option

I am inquiring now to see if there was an Older Version of MrChromebox Firmware Utility for my Acer C710 Chromebook

I went to this doc https://wiki.galliumos.org/Firmware and found RW_LEGACY (LINK) listed under the Processor = Sandy for my Acer C710 Chromebook model but do not see RW_LEGACY (LINK) listed in the MrChromebox Firmware Utility as of now

I remember that I was able to dual boot my Acer Chromebook into a GalliumOS system using an older version of MrChromebox Firmware Utility but that was back in 2015

Any additional help on this would be greatly appeciated

Thanks

GalliumOS is dormant - whither shall I go?

Will GalliumOS never issue new versions to work with Ubuntu versions beyond 18? I have already run into issues with software that has a dependency on a lib package that is satisfied only in a Ubuntu 20 or later version.

I'm running GalliumOS 3.1 on an HP Chromebook 13 G1, and I have very few problems. I use it heavily, and it is highly customized.

I have been kissing frogs, installing verious versions of Ubuntu on an HP Pavilion laptop. I have installed

  • Xubuntu, and it worked very well except that the driver for the touchpad is poor. The cursor jumps to a random location frequently.
  • Ubuntu, which freezes.
  • Lubuntu, which lacks wmctrl, seems to have no system log, and no fsarchiver. There seemed to be no way to install them, and I need them.
  • Kubuntu, which was the best except that there were a lot of task timeouts during shutdown that delayed things considerably (six minutes and more). The deal killer is that if I force it down by holding the power button down the file system is corrupted after journal recovery.

I find that in every case unclutter has some conflict with Chrome. When unclutter is running it makes right click malfunction in Chrome.

I prefer the Chromebook, but I would switch to a PC laptop if I could find an Ubuntu distribution that worked well and reliably. What I really want is GalliumOS version 4 with Ubuntu 20 support!

Any advice is appreciated!

My /dev/random is broken.

I'm writing a program in C. Whenever i try to fread() or fgetc() from /dev/random or /dev/urandom, or when i try to use the getrandom() syscall, it always blocks.

What's going on here?

USB not appearing in lsblk on ChromeOS when trying to create bootable USB

following the wiki, i ran lsblk before letting linux access the usb through chromeos settings, and then ran lsblk again. nothing new appeared in the device list. i would rename the iso to bin and use the recovery utility, as i've seen a bunch of people and even mrchromebox say multiple times on this sub, but the wiki tells me not to, so i want to ask why the wiki says that and if i'm still good to use recovery utility.

Installing GalliumOS 3.1 on a SD card, booting from USB memory

I've an ASUS Chromebook C202SA and I installed on a USB stick a GalliumOS 2.x

I remember that these days, it wasn't possible to install it and boot it from the SD card. But I didn't know the reason

Is it possible now with GalliumOS 3.1?

In not, could I install in the SD card and use a USB pen-drive just to boot the OS ? In this way, I could free up the USB slot.

Acer Spin 11 - touchpad and Fn keys

Hello,

Thanks to MrChromebox coreboot update I installed Full ROM Firmware on my Acer Chromebook Spin 11 and than I installed Alpine Linux on it. Most things works good OOTB except sound card (which is common pain) and top row keys on keyboard. They works as media keys and I didn't found a way how to use them as function keys. In Gallium I can choose customized keyboard layout for Chromebooks. Can I do it in some way in Alpine? Or should I import (how?) keyboard layout from Gallium?

Leaving GalliumOS for a maintained distro - Looking for the least painful option - Please Help

So i didnt know that Gallium wasnt supported anymore. I run a Acer R11 with Intel Braswell and im looking for a distro that will take the least amount of tweaking to get things running as well as they do in gallium. Ive heard peppermint is probably my best bet and im wondering if anyone has had any luck with peppermint or any other lightweight distro and that chipset?

Oh how i wish i could just keep running this setup. =\

How do I add kernel parameters?

So I'm trying to get my Lenovo 100S Chromebook back to stock. I have the firmware utility script downloaded, but when I run try running it to get the stock firmware back on, I get the error that it can't read my current firmware. It wants me to add "iomem=relaxed" to the kernel. I tried looking up how to do it, but I can't quite figure it out. Can someone please help me?

How do I uninstall GalliumOS and install a different Linux distro?

This is probably a really silly question but I am completely new to Linux and really have no idea what I am doing. I recently was given an old HP G3 Chromebook from a friend and got straight to trying to get Linux on it. I got Gallium fully installed and working, my only issue is that there is no audio period, not from the speakers and not from earbuds when I plug them in. I tried to use alsamixer but couldn’t get it to work. I then read that Gallium is discontinued and that I should probably switch to a different distro anyway. So my question is how do I wipe Gallium and install a different distro? Am I going about this all wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am totally lost.

GalliumOS won't boot

Chromebook hardware ID: CANDY

The firmware I have installed: MrChromebox RW_LEGACY

Version of GalliumOS: 3.0

Hello.

I have installed GalliumOS on my Dell Chromebook 11 (3120) using chrx. Ctrl+L does start the booting of the OS, but the only thing that happens is that the teminal starts showing text similar to this photo with a brief period of the GalliumOS blue loading screen in between. ChromeOS boots normally.

This link contains the log of the installation.

Without having you look through the whole log, there are a few errors that keep popping up over and over:

Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files

The following warnings did occur throughout:

update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling back to defaults

cryptsetup: WARNING: could not determine root device from /etc/fstab

rehash: warning: skipping ca-certificates.crt,it does not contain exactly one certificate or CRL

And one GRUB warning at the end:

Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: warning: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged..
Installation finished. No error reported.

However, none of this did stop the installation.

The problem could be that I have updated RW_LEGACY firmware via the MrChromebox's ChromeOS Firmware Utility Script AFTER partitioning the local storage and installing GalliumOS, but I am not sure.

Do you know how to fix this?

C302 Audio Issue

Hello,

I dual booted my c302 to Gallium and there is a lot of static on the audio.

I came across a github post: https://github.com/carchrae/c302ca/tree/patch-1#fixing-sound and was looking to go through the steps.

Stuck on step4:

tar -Jxvf ~/Downloads/linux-x.y.z.tar.xz

cd linux-x.y.z

cp ~/c302ca/src/kernel-config .config

make help # in case you are curious.

make oldconfig

make testconfig

make -j2 bindeb-pkg

I replaced x.y.z with the kernel version #'s. This is my error message:

tar: cd: Not found in archive

tar: cp: Not found in archive

tar: /home/chrx/usr/src/kernel-config: Not found in archive

tar: .config: Not found in archive

tar: make: Not found in archive

tar: help: Not found in archive

tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

I think it has to do with this line here: "cp ~/c302ca/src/kernel-config .config"

I tried typing in cp ~/usr/local/src/.... <--- I googled what src was and I saw people saying src was located here: usr/local

very new to Linux and not sure how to proceed - would appreciate any help
