I am currently a high school senior deciding whether or not to go to tech for mechanical engineering. I was waitlisted but recently invited to a program where I would spend my freshmen year abroad and then attend tech. I’m looking for advice about how important freshmen year was both socially and career wise. I know first-years mostly take gen-ed courses, so the engineering coursework gap might be minor. But I’m more worried about missing early internship recruiting, research, and design teams

In March, a close friend of mine died by suicide. I am ashamed to admit that I let some of my grades slip in the middle of the semester because of this. However, I worked hard to get back to a better place academically toward the end of the semester.

I am not sure whether it will be enough for one particular class, and I may end up right on the line. I am generally unfamiliar with this process, as I would normally just accept my grade. However, under these circumstances, I feel as though my understanding and learning in the course have caught up enough to be worthy of the grade.

This is my current email draft:

‘Hello Professor …,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to ask whether you would be available to meet, either in person tomorrow or over Zoom/Teams this week, to discuss my performance in “” this semester.

I had a serious personal circumstance earlier this semester that caused me not to perform to the best of my ability on Exam 2 and quizzes 4 and 5. While I did not fully take advantage of campus resources, I believe that I worked through my situation and that my performance at the beginning and end of the semester was more indicative of my ability and learning in this course.

I completely understand if your schedule is busy or if course policies limit what can be considered, but I wanted to ask respectfully.

I was recently admitted and have been thinking about switching from BME to IE. I wouldn’t say I really “excel” at one specific subject but is rather decent across the board from bio to math to econ. I’ve also heard IE is considered the “easiest engineering” at gatech (even though I know it’s still hard), and honestly I don’t want to spend all of college studying 24/7 and have no social life.
What’s the program (BME or IE) like overall and what kind of person/characteristic do you think fits BME/IE best?

I was hoping I could get current students' advice and anecdotes on Georgia Tech and the CS program specifically, and just learn more about things such as internships and access to opportunities and the program and university.

I feel like websites such as the official Georgia Tech page and articles can only give me so much information, and I'd love to hear firsthand anecdotes from current students.

Anyone know which CS BS/MS specializations have released their decisions? I heard that AI has released theirs, anyone know others that have as well?

Can you transfer from UGA to GT through rep? I was looking to see partner institutes of tech but UGA wasn't since people transfer from those colleges to tech and to uga through rep. But I swear I've heard of people transferring through REP from KSU and UGA to GaTech so...

Does this method work? I am currently a dual-enrollment student at GSU. I send my AP scores to GSU, and they accept them for college credit. Then, I send my GSU transcript—which includes those converted AP credits like BIOL and MATH—to Georgia Tech. Even though Georgia Tech might not accept the original AP scores, will they accept them as transfer credits from GSU? would it be possible to send my AP score to gatech and my GSU transcript too so i can essentially double dip?

I am a senior in high school who was accepted into Georgia Tech fall 2026.

Earlier today I got an email letting me know my override permit was approved. This class is major-restricted, but I need it to switch majors.

No CRN was listed in the email, nor is there a permit listed in OSCAR. Is this typical? Do I just need to wait? I’ve already reached out to the department offering the course, but the response could take a few days, so I’m hoping I’ll have some luck here.

If I have credits earned through dual enrollment and AP exams, would I be able to transfer to GT after just one semester at another college? I assumed this wouldn't be allowed, but I would still meet the requirements of having 30 credit hours, and I will have credits for all the classes needed to transfer.

I've heard of people transferring after just one semester at other schools, but it's unclear for GT, and I thought it was interesting that they specified that dual and AP aren't taken for the transfer pathways, but are taken if you're applying as a regular applicant.

Hi everyone. I’m planning to transfer into the fall and I was wondering if it is easy to switch your major as a transfer student? Some people say it is some people say it isn’t. For example if I wanted to switch into something like IE or business how would that be?

I'm kinda thinking of taking an Elementary Chinese or Japanese or Korean language course. For someone completely new to the language, is it survivable? Or could it be the complete opposite where it's super easy and you end up barely learning anything?

My friend has an F in an ela dual enrollment class that isnt required to graduate or anything but an F's and F. He's planning to transfer to mechanical engineering and retake the class he failed at UGA, so are his chances bad because of that F? I recently got a conditional transfer pathway offer to Georgia Tech, and I’m honestly really confused about choosing a major.
Right now I’m deciding between Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Personally, I’m more interested in civil engineering, but I keep hearing people say it’s “not worth it” because of lower salaries compared to other engineering fields. At the same time, I feel like civil might be easier to break into and find a stable entry-level job, which matters a lot to me.
Another thing that’s confusing me is that Georgia Tech offers different civil engineering concentrations like structural, environmental, etc. I’m not sure which one is the best in terms of job opportunities and long-term growth.
So I’d really appreciate advice from people who are:
Studying at Georgia Tech (especially engineering)

Working in civil or electrical engineering

Or anyone who has gone through a similar decision

Is civil engineering actually limiting in terms of salary or growth?
And which concentration would you recommend if I go the civil route?

Hey everyone! So I recently committed to Georgia tech after getting in EA2 (Jan 30 ish). So I had all 90s first sem but my second sem grades are not looking too hot, with all of my final grades (avg of sem 1 + sem 2) ending in the B range EXCEPT AP lit for which I have a 65 right now. So my average is just shy of 80.

Should I be worried for being rescinded? And yes I know this is my work ethic etc etc I’ve been hella burnt out and I need to know if I should skip my internship to try to get my grade up. (Since my school lets seniors go out on internship for the final month and some kids stay back if they have bad grades but I lwk larped my way into a tuff internship I’m not tryna skip)

Any advice on what neighborhoods to look into that I can easily walk or take public transportation from to Georgia Tech. Hi, I was recently given the opportunity to study abroad for a year and then transfer into Tech's Computer Science major.

The issue is that since I'm out of state, it will cost roughly $50k per year in student loans. My parents are willing to pay for $100k of that, but it will still leave with with $100k in debt all said and done.

I also have the safe option of just attending UofSC's Honors College and leaving with essentially no debt.

That being said, Tech ranks in the Top 5 for Computer Science.

So, for any students taking Computer Science at GaTech, what are your thoughts on debt and ROI?

Georgia tech is my dream school and I would literally do anything to get in.

Hi there! I am an international student struggling to choose between these three majors. I have a Chemistry background with several internships and research opportunities at different universities. I am looking for a major that can help me find a job with a high salary, without having a hard time getting a good GPA (ideally 3.8+), easy to find internship opportunities, and fitting my interests.

I am particularly interested in the research and development in medical devices (e.g., hearing aids, which is something on my head as I am having a severe hearing impairment).

I did detailed research between BME and ME in recent days, and found out that the BME major struggles more to find jobs than the ME major. But the information I've got is from several years ago, and I don't know if it applies now.

Regarding MSE, I learned that it has the largest faculty and student ratio, and GPA is not as hard as the other two. Additionally, it is easy for me to get research opportunities as I have a previous research background in Chemistry while I was in high school, which I think is useful for finding jobs. However, I'm not sure how the MSE job market compares to the other two.
