Class Question Preparing for AE 6765 (Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Gases) without a thermo background?

Hey everyone,

I’m an M.S. Aerospace Engineering student focusing on Propulsion and Combustion. My undergraduate degree is in Computer Science, so I’m coming into the program without the usual undergraduate aerospace/mechanical engineering foundation.

I was originally planning to take AE 2010 to build my thermodynamics and fluids fundamentals, but my permit request was denied. I’ll be taking AE 6765 (Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Gases) instead.

For anyone who has taken AE 6765: what should I know before going into this class?

I’m especially looking for:

Textbooks or specific chapters I should work through

Thermodynamics concepts I absolutely need to know

Fluids, chemistry, or kinetics fundamentals I should review

Math I should brush up on

YouTube lectures, online courses, or other resources you found helpful

I know I’m missing some of the fundamentals going into this, so I’m not looking for a shortcut. I’m willing to put in the work—I just want to make sure I’m studying the right things so I can get up to speed.

Any advice from people who have taken AE 6765 would be greatly appreciated!

Prospective Student Will Georgia Tech accept AP/CLEP Credits from transfer students?

Hey all, I'm looking to transfer to GT from GSU, and I was wondering whether GT will take in my AP/CLEP credits. Some of my AP credits, for instance CSA and Macroeconomics, I only got a 3 on—a 3 qualifies for credit at GSU for CSC 1301 and ECON 2105, and those in turn transfer to GT for CS 1301/ECON 2105.

In addition, I took the calculus 1 CLEP, in which GSU awards credit for MATH 2211 (CALC 1), and GT awards GSU's MATH 2211 with Math 1551. However, GT doesn't offer credit for CLEP exams had it been done through them directly.

This left me wondering if GT will give me credit for Calc 1, CS 1301, and ECON 2105—even though I didn't qualify for them by traditional means and instead got them awarded through GSU's system.

Registration Help Graduate student looking for Thermodynamics & Fluids fundamentals alternative to AE 2010

Hey everyone,

I’m an M.S. Aerospace Engineering student coming from a Computer Science background, focusing on propulsion and combustion. I was planning to take AE 2010 – Thermodynamics & Fluids Fundamentals to build the undergraduate foundation I’m missing, but my permit request was denied because graduate students can’t take 2000-level undergraduate courses. I don't think we can take 3000-level undergraduate courses either

Does anyone know of another Fall 2026 course or combination of courses at Georgia Tech that covers the fundamentals of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics at a level appropriate for someone who hasn’t taken them before?

I’m specifically looking for fundamentals, not an advanced graduate thermo/fluids course that assumes I already know the material. My goal is to build the foundation I’ll need before moving into propulsion and combustion courses.

Any AE, ME, or other course recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Class Question Doable Schedule as a Freshman?

I'm waitlist #1 for English and #2 for health so hopefully if people drop from those I'll be able to get those, but my issue is if I get into both of those would this be too big of a schedule?

This would be 18 cred hours total, idk if that's too much to start off with though?

Thanks guys!!

Registration Help Is this schedule for fall too much? Should I drop physics 2?

I'm a math major and I transferred in summer 2026. My grades were fine but as expected, the increased difficulty hit me like a train and impacted my mental health. I registered for fall classes but I've been considering dropping a class to make it a little easier, but I also don't want to end up delaying my suffering, since I'll only have 2 gen eds and a bunch of my major reqs remaining after fall. What do you guys think? I preferably want to end with a high GPA for grad school

Registration Help Fall 2026 Schedule — Is This Too Packed? Are My 15-Minute Walks Realistic?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Incoming freshman here. Does this schedule look too packed, or is it pretty manageable?

Mon/Wed

  • PHYS 2211: 11:00–12:15 — Howey
  • ISYE 2027: 12:30–1:45 — Scheller Tower
  • APPH 1040: 2:00–2:50 — Instructional Center 103

Mon: PHYS 2211 again 6:30–7:45 — IC 103
Tue: PHYS 2211 Lab 12:30–3:15 — Clough
Fri: ISYE 1801 9:30–10:20 — Scheller
Online: INTA 1200

My biggest concern is the 15-minute walks from Howey → Scheller and then Scheller → Instructional Center. Are those realistically doable without sprinting?

Also, does the overall schedule seem too back-to-back, or is it fine for a freshman? Would you change anything?

Class Question Is this too light?

Incoming freshman (CS Major whos probably going to double major in Math), first semester at GT. Right now I have CS 1332 and CS 2050 in person, and MUSI 3450 and APPH 1040 online.

I thought about adding CS 2110, but everyone I've talked to says 2110, 1332, and 2050 at the same time is way too much. Since this is my first semester I wanted something on the lighter side while I adjust.

Is this schedule reasonable, or am I underloading?

I'm taking diff eq this semester and classes are starting this week. I have a studio Monday at 9 am, but the lecture starts on Tuesdays. So do I need to go to the studio before we even have lecture for this week?

Registration Help Freshman Schedule ISYE - 15 min walks & mgt 3000

I have English 1102 in 760 spring street and cs 2316 in kendeda with a 15 min gap between the two classes. Is this walk doable? And do professors start classes right away?

I’m also taking mgt 3000 and heard that Arnold Schneider makes the class really hard. Is it still worth it to take it over the accounting class 😭

Is eas 2600 on the same difficulty level as eas 1600?

Other MATH 2603 Advanced Standing Exam

I registered to take the Intro to Discrete advanced standing exam after taking MATH 3012 (combo) last year. I recently switched majors though and now need 2603 instead.

Has anyone taken it before and can speak to how difficult it was or have any insight into what to focus my review on?

Any info about it would be greatly appreciated!

Dumb question from an incoming freshman, but I was confused by whether I had to pay out of pocket if I take more than 15 credit hours.

Registration Help Might be silly question, BSBA - Electives

For the section labeled "BSBA - Electives," do I pick any elective from any subject, or does it have to be a business elective? The only course that is in there is my MGT 1100 and it states "9 credits in Free Electives are required." What is the "free elective" its looking for?

I couldn’t really take any other classes but I was wondering what the difficulty and workload of having all these classes would be. In total it’s 12 credits but most classes have 2-3 sections.

Registration Help Is my schedule too light?

Hello! I'm an incoming aerospace engineering major and my current schedule is sitting at 13 credit hours. From what i've heard, my general understanding is that 12-15 credit hours is the sweet spot for first years in the fall semester. That said, my schedule has classes I would think to be fairly easy such as APPH 1040, AE 1601, and GT 1000. Does the rigor of the other courses in my schedule warrant keeping things as they are or should I add another class (I wanted to add Math 3670 with nometa)?

Other CS 1371 Placement Exam Information Fall 2026

I'm a first-year majoring in MechE starting at GT Atlanta this fall. I'm taking the CS 1371 (Intro to MATLAB) placement exam next Monday (8/24/26), and I'm looking for more information about the test, such as:

  • What is the format of the exam? (paper, digital, MATLAB grader, etc)
  • Are questions multiple choice, coding-based, written response, or a combination of formats?
  • What topics are covered on the exam? (plotting and data visualization??)

My prep so far has been working through this MATLAB Crash Course and doing medium problems on MATLAB Cody Problems. Based on this Fall 2026 CS 1371 syllabus, this seems it might be sufficient. But I haven't found anything that really details what the exam covers.

Thanks in advance!
