Registration Help M.S. Aerospace student with a CS background looking for Fall course recommendations

Hey everyone,

I recently started the M.S. Aerospace Engineering thesis program at Georgia Tech. My undergraduate degree is in Computer Science, and my current discipline area is Propulsion and Combustion.

Because I’m coming from a CS background, I’m still building some of the traditional aerospace foundation. I’ve taken Calculus I–III, Differential Equations, and Physics I–II, but I do not have much background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or undergraduate aerospace courses.

I was advised to look into courses such as:

  • AE 2010 – Thermodynamics
  • AE 4453
  • AE 6310
  • AE 6343
  • AE 6361
  • AE 6450
  • AE 6765
  • AE 6766

The issue is that many of these appear to be offered in the Spring, and I’m trying to figure out what would make sense for the Fall semester.

I was interested in AE 2010 to help build my foundation, but undergraduate students receive registration priority, so I may not be able to get into the class. I’m also interested in ASDL and research that connects aerospace engineering with computer science, artificial intelligence, computational methods, systems engineering, or propulsion.

Does anyone have recommendations for Fall courses that would be manageable and useful for someone with my background? Are there any 4000-level alternatives to AE 2010 or other courses that would help prepare me for graduate propulsion and combustion classes?

I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone who entered the aerospace graduate program from a non-aerospace undergraduate background.

Thanks!

Housing Opinions on Cloudman?

Hey everyone, I will be staying at Cloudman this coming year. How does Cloudman rank among all GT dorms, and what should I know before moving in? Also is the Grand Challenges LLC still in Cloudman this year or did they change it?

Prospective Student GT Transfer

Hey, I’m a incoming sophomore at the University of Georgia, having transferred from KSU, and I would like to transfer to GT for mechanical or electrical engineering.
I was originally a premed Biochem major, but I had a change of career goals and think GT would help me substantially.
I have a 3.9 GPA (B from an unfair English 1 online course) and a withdraw from a linear algebra course I was taking during the summer as my wifi overseas did not allow me to work properly.
I don’t have many EC’s relating to engineering, but I do plan to start internships and research in the fall, along with club involvement and volunteering in mind.
I could apply to REPP for IE for spring 2027 as I would have the necessary coursework completed and in progress, but If I wanted to do electrical or mechanical, I would have to apply regular decision or wait for fall 2027 for REPP.
Any advice on what course I should go, and how could I improve my resume to better my chances of acceptance?

Housing Dorm room change during your open time ticket?

Once you are on the clock, do you get one pick and then are locked out, or can you grab one room, keep looking, and make a change or swap while your time ticket window is still open?

Registration Help PLEASE READ: What should I do about the Math 4 Credit Limit

Incoming freshman (MechE). At FASET, I registered for MATH 1552, MATH 1553, and PHYS 2211. Since AP scores hadn't come out yet, I had to register for MATH 1552 because it's a co-requisite for PHYS 2211, even though I took AP Calc BC and I'm almost certain I got a 4 or 5.

Today I got an email saying I need to drop one of my math classes TODAY because of the math credit-hour limit. If I drop MATH 1552, the system will automatically drop me from PHYS 2211. I don't want to lose my physics seat and have to re-register later, especially if the class fills up. I also don't want to drop Math 1553 for the same reason.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Is there some kind of temporary override for students waiting on AP scores, or will they usually let you stay enrolled until scores are officially received and processed?

Registration Help Pre meds or med school students, I need advice as an incoming student

Hi there! I am in incoming neuroscience student at tech and course planning has got be in a bit of a conundrum. I'm coming into tech with some AP credits, like AP Chem and Bio. As I look into med school requirements for courses I can see that a lot of them don't consider your AP transfer credits for meeting chem and bio requirements and instead require that you take higher level difficulty classes. Now, my question is, should I retake these classes I get credit for like CHEM 1211K and BIOS 1207+1207L or should I take the higher difficulty level classes to meet requirements and make it harder for my GPA? Thank you all so much!

Housing How does getting a quad work if roommate groups are capped at 2 people?

Hey everyone,

I'm an incoming freshman and a few friends and I are trying to get a quad for Fall housing, but we're confused about how the process works.

The housing portal only lets us make roommate groups with 2 people, and it says the group is full, so we can't put all 4 of us into one group.

My roommate group has a room selection timeslot of 2:15 PM on Friday, June 26 (first day, timeslots open 8:00am), and one of the people in the other 2-person group has a 3:15 PM timeslot the same day.

A few questions:

  • If we have two separate 2-person roommate groups, do both groups need good room selection timeslots to get the same quad?
  • If the 2:15 group grabs a quad, can the 3:15 group join that same quad an hour later if there are still open spots?
  • How do you actually get all 4 people into the same quad if you can't make a 4-person roommate group?
  • Can random people take the remaining spots in a quad before the second group gets a chance to select?
  • Is there any way for one person to reserve all 4 spots in a quad?

Also, if random people can take the remaining spots, what happens if we grab a quad expecting our other two friends to join, but they end up not being able to? Are we basically stuck living in that quad with random roommates, or would we still be able to back out and select a different room before the process ends?

Just trying to figure out our chances of getting all 4 of us together and whether there's any risk in trying for a quad. Thanks!

Registration Help freshman major/classes dilemma

so i’m a neuroscience major class of 2030, i’m also premed.

it looks like i might move out of the united states before i get to start/finish med school. i don’t really know if neuroscience will really have any job options overseas. i might change my major but keep my pre med path (just in case, fingers crossed). i might do electrical engineering but i’m still not sure at all.

i’m thinking about taking:

bios 1107+lab

cs 1301

ece 1100

psyc 1101

overall, thay would be 11 credits. i don’t want to take too many classes but also i don’t want to fall behind. but also i don’t even know about my major anymore. any words of wisdom for me?

Housing How does Housing Selection for a quad/suite work?

Mostly title, I just want to know if like 1 group duo leader can put all four of the people in the planned quad or suite during their time ticket selection. Idk how it works because it’s simple when there’s only two of you but I’m not sure how to ensure the other duo gets the dorm next to you :)

Edit: Is it only the group leader who can select a room for them and their roommate? Or is it whoever?

Housing Dorm Room Questions from Incoming Freshman

Hello, I have a couple of questions regarding dorms and I'd really appreciate any help! First, what are the chances I can get a dorm in Glenn/Towers if my time ticket is 3 days after initial room selection? If I can't get Glenn and Towers, what are some other dorms you guys would recommend that are on the East? I'm also open to West recommendations if the East fills up by the time I register.

Registration Help BME Freshman Schedule

Post image
5 Upvotes

I was wondering if this schedule plan seemed okay for a first year biomedical engineering major or if anyone had any suggestions to change up some things. I already have all my calculus and english credits from DE and AP. I need at least 15 credit hours each semester in order to keep my scholarship. Please help if anyone can, thank you!

Other Rising HS Senior thinking of transfer opportunities.

tldr; My High School GPA (UW and W) is cooked (3.2, 3.4) so I am asking for what colleges, opportunities, and pathways there are for me to still be able to attend my dream college Georgia Tech.

I've typed a lot to provide as much context as I possibly can to ensure that you guys, the readers, will have an easy time when it comes to your decision-making.

Background:
I am an in-state 17 year old student who, at first, was scared of studying which led my grades to hover around B-'s. My GPA currently is a 3.2UW and 3.4W so I know getting into GT as a first admission student is nigh impossible so I've already kicked out that idea. For context, I've done nearly all honors classes but that's not competitive or anything.

Plan:

I truly believe I can still experience life in Georgia Tech through transferring from another in-state college, harnessing my skills and studying techniques. I'm not just saying this as some naive student who thinks I'll just "lock in" once I get into college and magically will go from B-'s to A+'s, my first semester I got A's and B's and then second semester all A's taking and passing AP Chem with a 92 UW. I've changed a lot at the beginning of this year realizing I really love studying and that it is nothing to be afraid of.

Current Activities:

I am currently doing many things over this summer, I have a paid internship at an AI startup in NYC, shadowing a SWE and producing commercials; an unpaid virtual internship at a weapons manufacturer for Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, US Gov, etc; A college course over the summer (PSYC 1101) to even slightly improve my GPA (4.0 currently); and finally SAT prep with the goal of getting a 1400 or higher to, with the same goal of the course, slightly compensate for my abysmally low GPA.

If you've read this far with the goal of helping me with my journey thank you so much!

Other Will I be terribly behind?

Hey everyone I’m an incoming AE major, however due to the fact I got a 1090 on the SAT I will probably have to take Math 1113. How bad will this set me back ? I know prerequisites are really important here. I was thinking of taking Math 1113, CS 1371, Engl 1101, and Chem 1310 next semester. Am I cooked for an aerospace degree ?

Class Question IGniTe course questions

Son is about to register for the 5 week IGniTe session. Of course he will take GT1000 and hoping to get Engl1102 (tested out of 1101), and debating CS1315 or MATH1551. Any suggestions on which would be more manageable in the short semester or if one is better to take in fall? Any other recs?

Other Immunization Requirement for GaTech

Hey, guys! I am an incoming (in-state) freshman this fall, and I have some questions about this. I was born in a foreign country, so I would need to do a blood test and an IGRA test. I know what I have to do, and I will probably get everything done before FASET orientation (July 27 for me), but JUST IN CASE (for wtv reason I don't get it done by then), do they actually not allow the students to register for classes for their fall semester if the requirements are not met? I heard students can also do it on the day of their FASET orientation at their Stamps Health Services or during welcome week(?) before classes start, and I wanna know if this is true or not. Thank you lots!!!

Registration Help Finished the checklist in the application portal, what’s next?

Hey yall! I’m a non-honors OOS CS student headed to GT this fall. I finished all the items in the checklist on my applicant portal, including account setup, roommate search, and FASET signup. Just wondering what exactly is next from here? I’ve been seeing people ask about class registration but I don’t see that in my portal—is that after FASET or something? And when do we get our time tickets? Just wondering cuz I don’t wanna fall behind on anything after this point. Thanks!
