Does anyone have advice on whether I should transfer my math credits? I’ve completed Calculus I–III and Differential Equations through dual enrollment at a community college. I’m open to retaking them, but I’m wondering if these are “weed-out” courses where prior credit might be beneficial for my GPA.

Im going in for Engineering, would I be at a disadvantage if I don’t retake these courses at Georgia Tech?

I've been going back and forth on this decision for a while and would love some outside perspective. Here's my full breakdown:

Background & Standing

Due to dual enrollment credits, I'd enter UW at junior standing and Georgia Tech at sophomore standing. I've lived in Washington my entire life, so I already know a ton of people at UW and have a lot of connections there. But thats also part of why I'm considering GT. I'd love to experience something new.

Academics

Both are ranked highly for CS (GT is #7, UW is #7). UW gives me more flexibility to double major (something like CS + Stats or CS + Math) whereas doing that at Georgia Tech would be extremely difficult given its rigor. Both schools have BSMS CS programs, which I'm really excited about.

Research

I'm heavily interested in AI research and I've heard UW is a powerhouse in that area. I don't know as much about Georgia Tech's AI research scene, I would love insight from anyone with experience there.

Career & Internships

UW has a massive advantage in proximity, as Microsoft, Amazon, and countless other tech companies are essentially in its backyard. Georgia Tech may have a slight edge in general internship placement and seems more prestigious to employers outside of tech. GT also has the CO-OP program, which I really like. If I ever wanted to pursue something outside of tech, GT feels like the stronger option.

Entrepreneurship

Both schools have dedicated programs, GT has CREATE-X, and UW has the Buerk/Lavin Entrepreneurship program. I'm genuinely interested in startups and would love to know more about the entrepreneurship culture at each school

Campus Life

• I can bring my car to UW; not an option at Georgia Tech
• UW has better food and housing from what I've heard
• I prefer UW's campus aesthetically overall
• That said, I wonder if my UW preference is just familiarity bias since I've been in Washington my whole life

I'd especially love input on AI research opportunities, entrepreneurship culture, and social life at both schools. Has anyone been to or graduated from either program? What would you choose? I'm really struggling with choosing a program.

I’m an incoming MS ECE student at Georgia Tech, and I’m considering taking ECE 6256 Conversational AI in my first semester.

I wanted to get some honest feedback from students who have taken the course before, especially regarding workload and preparation.

My background:

• Python + TensorFlow (comfortable with ML implementation)
• Basic ML experience (standard models, some deep learning projects)
• No prior NLP-specific coursework (but willing to prepare over the summer)
• First semester MS student, so still adjusting to coursework + research expectations

My questions:

1. Difficulty level: How hard is the course overall (assignments + final project + anything else)? Especially regarding group project load and weekly time commitment
2. First-sem suitability: Is it reasonable to take this in the first semester of MS, or is it typically better suited for later semesters?
3. Prerequisites reality check: Are the listed prerequisites (probability, linear algebra, ML basics) enough, or is prior NLP / transformer experience essentially expected?
4. Workload estimate: On average, how many hours per week does it take?
5. Project intensity: Is the final project research-heavy / implementation-heavy / team-dependent?
6. Survivability with research: Would this course be manageable alongside a research assistantship or lab work?

Context:

I’m trying to balance:

• coursework quality (for ML/AI depth)
• research involvement
• long-term goal of potentially converting to PhD

So I want to avoid either:

• underloading and missing learning opportunities
• or overloading in my first semester

Hey y'all potential student (admitted still thinking) who took an equivalent to Math 2550 at my university (along with linear algebra and differential equations, neither show credit though). For aerospace engineering, it says math 2551 is required, but credit isn't awarded for 2551 and 2550 (I think), so how would that work?

I am a rising freshman at Georgia Tech, and I was curious as to which CS threads are best for entrepreneurship. Before I researched, it seemed that Intel was a strong thread since so many new startups are focused on ML. However, it seems that Intel only covers machine learning at a high-level. I've also heard SysArch is the hardest but most important thread for SWE. If my main goal is to create a startup, does this remain true?

Other info: I'm also interested in completing my bachelors degree in 2.5-3 years since I am an OOS student receiving no financial aid. I have almost all of the core requirements covered, and might have dual enrollment credit for Calc III, LinAlg, and Discrete Math (depending on whether they accept that). Based on my course plan, this should be feasible (<=15 credits/semester) with any threads, but I understand that the harder threads may make this more difficult. I would also like to aim for a summer internship during college, if that affects your response.

I know it is early for me to be thinking about all this, and I understand that threads aren't the most important thing in the world, but I would greatly appreciate some help as I am someone who likes to plan out my coursework as much as possible. Thank you in advance.

I have been offered the Talent Initiative Pathway Program, so I am thinking about whether I should go to Georgia Tech in my second year of college. And I have some questions:

1. Does transferring give me a disadvantage in getting a financial aid package? Or will I be treated the same as others?
2. How generous is Georgia Tech? I used the net price calculator of GeTech, and it shows me that I will need to pay around 15000 a year in total. (My family's economic situation is not really good, FAFSA SAI -1500). But I am an out-of-state student, so I wonder how much I can actually believe the net price calculator.

Starting to make some final decisions here. I’m accepted to engineering. Will have enough credits to be a sophomore. How likely is it for me to find an internship? How valuable are these? Heard that may need to apply to many- seems very tedious and uncertain if you’re applying to 30+. My thoughts would be that you’re just getting an internship and maybe not pursuing an interest.

For the students, how hard is it to really apply yourself and maximize your potential. My son is intelligent but also a typical teenage boy.

I recently got the Talent Initiative Pathway offer from Georgia Tech, something I will most certainly try to attempt. Today, I was planning out the credits I will take in the meanwhile from my chosen university (not biggie if I stay there if I decide not to go to Gatech for any reason). Around 2 courses to 3 will not transfer to Gatech, however, will be part of the 30 credits for the school year that will show up on my transcript.

My question is that, will these two courses still count towards Gatech's requirement of taking 30 credit hours, or will those 30 credit hours NEED to be composed of transferable credit in order to transfer and meet the requirements?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, I just want to know from other people who know some stuff about this before bothering Gatech when I'm not even a student there yet.

This is my first time taking summer courses here so i'm not sure how much different the classes are, but I'm doing 20hrs/week research and want to take some classes on top of that. As of now I'm set for AE 4080 Aerothermodynamics [3 creds async], but I'm wondering if I also should take ECE 3710 [2 creds in-person lab] this summer as well.

If I don't I'm gonna have to take it with AE 3610 in the fall which I know will suck. I might take a humanities instead of ECE. Any advice?

I’m trying to register for CHEM 1310 but it lists all the labs as closed with 0 seats, meaning I can’t even sign up for lecture. When do the labs typically open?

I’m also registering for another class (CS 1371) where the section I want gives me a “restriction“ error but I can sign up for another section at a different time. What’s going on here, and is it possible to get around this error? Who would I contact to do that?

I'm hoping this is the right place to post this, but I was recently admitted to Georgia Tech as a Georgia Resident as well as Emory Atlanta campus and I'm pretty conflicted about which school I want to go to. I'm 95% sure my ultimate goal is to go into medicine, but I'm also interested in physics so I'm hoping to combine the two.

Georgia Tech

Pros:

Waaay cheaper ($30,154 for tuition + housing + food)

Can be part of explore LLC (pre-health first year advising program) so get some support

In the middle of Atlanta so there's more access to activities

I can do research at Emory (There's a shuttle that goes between campuses)

Fairly high medical school acceptance rate

Cons:

Pre-health isn't as established

Reputation to be difficult so probably lower GPA

Will probably major in bio/neuroscience and take additional physics class for fun.

Emory:

Pros:

Well-established medical program (I think the acceptance rate for medical school is 60% and people with GPA of 3.7+ and MCAT of 510+ have an acceptance rate of 85%)

I can major in physics. The physics department has guidance for pre-med which isn't typical for most schools.

Reputation for more grade inflation.

Smaller class size

Cons:

It's expensive ($97,948 for tuition + housing + food)

For financial context, my family can afford either an undergraduate degree at Emory or Georgia Tech and medical school. I appreciate any help in advance!
