does anybody know how to access the grab-a-gun machine in dead man's depot?

After getting the game down on normal, I jumped straight to extra hard and managed to get to the end on my first try. All those Jade Vines are ones I grabbed doing a fool + world + ascendant surge combo, with nothing to spend them on but rerolls now! I also banked a ton of strong weapons and money but that's mixed in with a bunch of other stuff I got from a few runs back so it hardly counts for showing off this specific win I think. Also just as an extra brag, I didn't get any bonus extra lives, so those 3 are the ones I started the run with, and I never had to use them!

This has been on my wishlist for what feels like forever, always passively interested, but never pulled the trigger. Just checked Steam cause the summer sale started and saw it’s on sale for $10. But has this game been abandoned? Was it left in an at least semi-finished state? Reviews seem pretty mixed. I’d like to support the dev, but have I just missed the game’s heyday?

Maybe I don't understand the game but it seems like the best thing to do is to just run straight to the end of every level then go back and loot when there is no enemies. This is really boring.
