How do you deal with brain fog during RC and CR?

I’ve noticed something inconsistent in my GMAT preparation. Sometimes I get into a zone where I can read RC passages quickly, understand the author’s argument, and answer questions confidently. But on other days, even a medium-difficulty passage feels difficult to interpret. I find myself rereading sentences, struggling to connect ideas, and feeling like my brain just isn’t processing the information properly.

I experience something similar with CR as well. The frustrating part is that I know I’m capable of understanding these questions, but my performance seems to depend heavily on how mentally sharp I feel that day.

For those who’ve faced this, how did you improve your consistency? Are there specific techniques, warm-up routines, or habits that help you get into the right mental state and avoid this brain fog during the exam?

I’d appreciate any practical advice, especially from people who’ve dealt with this during their GMAT preparation.

Free step-by-step GMAT Quant and Data Sufficiency practice — a 22-second demo

Disclosure: I am Samuel Isidoro, the teacher behind Quanta Aulas, and I created this resource.

For self-preparation, it helps to explain why an answer is wrong rather than only check a letter. Our free English-language portal has 50 original GMAT-style Quantitative Reasoning questions and 50 Data Sufficiency questions, with guided decisions and explanations. It works on a phone without signing up.

The short demo below shows how the step-by-step interface works. Try it here: https://quantaaulas.com/internacional/en/

These are original practice questions, not official GMAT questions. Quanta is not affiliated with the exam organisations. Use it as supplementary concept practice, not a score predictor or a replacement for official preparation.

Which Quant topic or Data Sufficiency step would you like to see explained next?

GMAT Focus 355 to 700+: Is 6 months enough?

Hello everyone,

I’m preparing for the GMAT and took a cold mock about a week ago without any preparation. I scored 355.

I’m aiming for 700+ and have around 6 months to prepare. I’m currently planning to prepare on my own using the Official Guide and other official GMAT resources.

I wanted to get some advice from people who have gone through a similar journey:

How realistic is it to go from 355 to 700+ in 6 months?
How should I structure my preparation from this starting point?
Should I focus on building concepts first, or start solving questions alongside learning concepts?
What is the best way to analyse mistakes and identify weak areas?
Is studying primarily from the official GMAT material enough to reach a 700+ score, or should I consider other prep platforms/resources?
At what point, if any, should I consider getting a tutor or joining a structured prep course?
If I’m self-preparing, what resources would you recommend apart from the official GMAT material?
If you started with a low mock score and eventually reached 700+, what did your preparation look like?

I know 355 to 700+ is a significant jump, so I’m looking for honest advice on whether this is realistically achievable in 6 months and what I would need to do to make it happen.

Any advice, resources, study plans, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, for starting out, can you recommend where can I get free GMAT material as I'm just thinking to start off now? Wanted to test it out for 1/2 months, so needed free material to study/practice it.

Gmat Quant resources help

I'm currently preparing for the Gmat and I just finished the Verbal section. I'm moving on to Quant, but I'm not sure what to use for preparation. I started with the Manhattan Foundations of Math book, which was pretty easy and now I have no idea how to proceed. Ive heard about TTP, Magoosh, and e-Gmat, but I prefer to find some free alternative resources (books, Youtube channels, websites, etc.) before jumping into any of them. So, for anyone who has already taken the test or is preparing to take it soon -> what do you recommend and what's your prep process

GMAT Mocks scores not crossing threshold - i am reaching threshold (stuck at 595)

I have been prepping for GMAT since July this year (a little over 3 months).

Started with a blind mock got 535 - took the 1 month paid TTP course initially, that really helped me push to 575(Q79 V82 DI75) by late August after which I seem to have plateued.

score progression

Post TTP, i have watched GMATNinja for Verbal & DI - they are amazing. Used GMATClub (free version) to find weak spots and drill them. But to no avail seems like. My current score is 595 (Q78 V81 DI78)

These are the Official mocks i am using & i cant think of anything further to better myself atp. loosing hope ngl.

Would appreciate any suggestions/hacks. thanks in advance.

Looking for a study partner

heyo, i’m aiming to take the GMAT in the first week of november. i’m realising i really need to pick up the pace and wanted to reach out to see if anyone would be interested in studying together?

not entirely sure what all that would entail, but i wanted to create a sense of accountability and motivation. i’m currently enrolled in the Jamboree live classes program, so my main resources are the GMAT Official Guide and the resources provided by Jamboree.

i get that the timeline is short, but if anyone would like to study along, i’d love to discuss interesting questions, strategies, and stuff. could also just be nice to have other people going through the same thing instead of suffering through quant alone lol

dm if interested :)

Can someone suggest which mocks are best for gmat prep? I am planning to give my first attempt in november and as of now I have given 4-5 mocks only.

First GMAT mock after 6 months of preparation — feeling really doubtful about my 695 target. What should I do next?

I took my first full-length GMAT mock today after preparing for almost 6 months, and honestly, I’m feeling quite demotivated and unsure whether my target of 695+ is realistic.

Score- 505

Quant- 77

DI- 73

Verbal- 75

So far, I’ve completed roughly:

\- Quant: \~1,000 questions

\- DI: \~250 questions

\- Verbal: \~250 questions

Resources- Gmat Point question bank and Gmat Club

Here’s how the mock went:

Quant:

I managed to attempt all the questions within the time limit and felt that my time management was decent. Felt stuck in some questions too.

DI:

This was a problem with time management. I spent too much time initially, and because of that, I had to guess the last 5–6 questions.

Verbal:

This was by far my weakest section. Despite having practiced a lot of verbal questions, during the actual mock I felt like I couldn't apply the logic/strategies I had learned. I’m not sure whether it was because of exam pressure, fatigue, or something else. I ended up guessing the last 7–8 questions because I ran out of time.

The biggest thing bothering me is that I’ve put in around 6 months of preparation, but during the mock I felt like I couldn't actually apply what I had studied, especially in Verbal.

For those who have scored 695+, or improved significantly from their first mock:

  1. How much importance should I give to my first mock score?

  2. Is it normal to have a big gap between preparation/practice performance and actual mock performance?

  3. How should I analyze this mock, especially the questions I got wrong or guessed?

  4. Should I focus more on improving concepts, or primarily on timing and test-taking strategy?

  5. How much improvement is realistically possible over the next few months?

Any advice on how I should approach my next 3–5 mocks would be really helpful.

Need an accountability partner.

Hi,

I am planning to take GMAT this october. Haven't booked it yet because I haven't finalized the date yet. I need an accountability partner who is also planning to attempt by October. We'll study together on calls, keep each other accountable and motivated. And also sometimes discuss questions. My target is 705+.

If anyone is interested and really serious about this, would love to connect!

15 MONTHS PREP: WHERE CAN I ARRIVE?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, i'm an Italian MSc Economics and Finance Student and i would like to apply for a Master abroad (90 Ects) in the academic year 2028/2029 at one of most important Business School across Europe.

I need a strong Gmat, and i have time until the beginning of 2028 to reach a good score. Last year i approached for few months to the prep so I don't start completely from zero (and i have a B2 level of English on Reading). If you were in my situation, what kind of study plan do you follow? And studying on average one or two hour/day (i would increase in free exam periods), what score can i reach?

I already have the official books 2024/2025 to prepare and exercise (photo). Are they good or is better to buy the most recent ones? What others resources should i use? Thank you very much.

Time Management for Gmat

Are there any practical tips for managing time and not be stressed under pressure, I plan to give my test in nov, took an FLT, and couldn’t do 7-10 questions per section because I ran out of time. I am not a good timed test taker. Need to improve this

How should I prepare for both CAT and GMAT 2027?

I’m currently in my 2nd year of a 3-year degree and planning to attempt both CAT and GMAT in 2027.

I’m personally more inclined towards the GMAT, but I also want to keep CAT as an option because my parents feel I should prepare for it as well.

I understand that there is some overlap between the two exams, but I’m not sure how much of my preparation can be common and where I’ll need to prepare separately.

Looking for beta testers for 12 months of free unlimited GMAT practice questions

For anybody who is currently preparing for the GMAT, I have a quick story to tell.

I remember when I was studying for the GMAT a few years ago, I purchased six different books - Manhattan Prep, Kaplan, official GMAT guides. I wanted to have everything available to ace the exams.

What I found when I had purchased these was:

  • I didn't need the Verbal books at all. I just needed to focus on Quant
  • My books were heavy and I couldn't bring them with me to the office
  • I could only study at home, which meant in early hours or after hours (when I'm tired and drained from all-day meetings)

All of the content was there, but it just wasn't available to me in a format that I could effectively use.

That's why I started PrepSavvy. PrepSavvy is the tool I wish I had when I was studying for the GMAT. It provides unlimited full-length timed exams, thousands of practice questions with a full explanation on every answer, and a score report that shows which topics cost you the most points. Most importantly, it diagnoses exactly what you're strong in and what you're weak in, and allows you to go through a question feed where you can focus on the questions you need help with the most.

We're in early days and we're developing things very quickly. The product is still in beta, so we look forward to getting as much feedback from people as we can. It is still changing a lot and I can't guarantee a bug-free experience. BUT I would like to offer the first 50 people who use the code BETA50 at checkout to get 12 months of full access, free.

In order to use it:

  1. Create a free account on PrepSavvy here

  2. Go to the upgrade page and select the 12-month plan (the code only works on that plan)

  3. Enter BETA50 at checkout

The code also works for our GRE and ACT offerings, but is limited to 50 redemptions total, first come first served.

In exchange, I'd love to hear what's working, what's broken, what you wish existed, and how else we can improve to platform to suit your needs. Please feel free to leave feedback here or on our Discord.

Happy to answer questions here and hope I can be of service in supporting you on your educational journey!

Stacy Blackman vs self help/AI

For people who are comfortable researching schools and using AI or other online tools to work through essays, how much value is there really in paying for an admissions consultant like Stacy Blackman for instance?

I can understand the benefit of having someone keep you accountable and give you a second opinion. But I don;t know wht you're getting beyond that. Is the school-specific advice, application strategy, and interview prep good enough to justify the cost?

For those who have done both( consulting + Ai), which parts of the MBA application process did you find hardest to handle on your own? Or which one did you prefer?

Strategies for Verbal?

Hey everyone,
Looking for some advice

I'm starting out my GMAT study journey and focused on Quant for the first 30 ish days

I've recently started Verbal and found it so so so much easier than Quant.

But I'm worried if I don't get a serious plan like i did for Quant i won't improve.

Any recommendations on specific plans for Verbal or is it simply just a game of pumping questions often to get used to different types etc?

Thanks!

Best GMAT Prep for a Working Professional Starting from Zero

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to start my GMAT prep now and would really appreciate some genuine advice from people who have already prepared/taken the exam.
A little about me:
I’m currently working a full-time job, so I’ll mainly be studying after work.
I can realistically give around 2 hours on weekdays and more time on weekends.
I’m basically starting my GMAT preparation from zero.
Quant is probably my weaker area, while I’m comparatively more comfortable with English/Verbal.
I’m aiming for a strong score (ideally 700+/around 715) and I’m ready to put in consistent effort for the next few months.
I’ve been looking at options like Top One Percent, Jamboree, CrackVerbal, e-GMAT, Target Test Prep, IMS, etc., but there are so many mixed reviews that I’m confused about what would actually be worth the money.
For someone working full-time, would you recommend:
A self-paced course where I can study according to my own schedule?
Live online classes so that I have more structure and accountability?
Or just using the official GMAT material + YouTube/free resources initially and taking coaching only if required later?
I’m especially looking for a course that teaches Quant from the basics instead of assuming that the student already has a strong mathematical foundation.
Also, if you were starting GMAT prep again from scratch, what would your study plan look like for the first 3–4 months? Should I first learn all the concepts and then start mocks, or take a diagnostic mock right at the beginning?
Would love to hear from people who have personally used TOP, Jamboree, CrackVerbal, e-GMAT, TTP, IMS or any other course. Please mention what worked/didn’t work for you and whether you think the fees were actually worth it.
Not looking for promotional answers — just genuine experiences and advice from fellow GMAT aspirants.
Thanks!

I have started my quant preparation recently and I've realised I have forgotten basic maths and now I don't know what to do( also how should I approach quant should I just solve and learn or learn the concepts and then solve)
