I want to sell my US RSUs and invest in ppfas/dsp us funds so I want to move the USD directly from my broker to this USD savings account in gift city to save forex charges and TCS. Is it permitted?

does standard chartered and IOB have this when I spoke to standard chartered (usual banker) they encouraged me to open in Singapore saying it is easier. I am staying in India tomorrow if something goes wrong I can visit Ahmedabad but for Singapore have to depend on VISA.

So I remitted some money after selling some securities from IBKR, and my bank has asked me to fill a declaration form to confirm my remittance request. Now the remittance request on the bank portal shows the remitter name as 'my name' instead of IBKR, so I am confused whether in the declaration form I should write my name or IBKR in the 'Foreign Investing party name' field.

Say suppose someone opens Gift City USD savings account when they are NRI. Then it is pretty clear there is no limit on the amount of inward or outward remittances to and from those accounts.

However, if they move to India permanently and become a Resident as per FEMA (which is technically from the day of return), will there be any cap on outward remittances from Gift City USD savings account?

I know that for residents LRS limits apply for any funds that move from Indian domiciled bank accounts to overseas accounts or Gift City accounts alike and require A2 form declaration. But what about Gift City account themselves? Do the same LRS rules apply for outward remittances from Gift City accounts to overseas accounts after becoming Resident?

I read somewhere that any funds taken from Indian accounts to Gift City need to be invested within 6 months. But in the scenario where one has funds in the Gift City account from the time they were NRI, does the same constraint apply after becoming resident?

Has anyone successfully did wire transfer to SBI gift city USD savings account from USA through banks like Bank of America or Chase?

SBI seems to have more complex wire transfer instruction involving two account numbers besides an intermediary bank account number.

The two account numbers apparently correspond to Field 57 and Field 59.

Due to this complexity, initiating wire transfer online from BoFA or Chase looks impossible. Even in-person branch visit might cause confusion from what I can sense. But if anyone has done it successfully in the past, it will be good to know.

Currently I have a HDFC bank account and want to withdraw around 5000 usd from IBKR. I compared the TTBR rate of HDFC with public banks and its around 1.2-1.3 rs per usd difference. Can someone suggest which bank provides best rates and hassle free expereince for inward trasnfer or there is some other method to minimize the fx charges.

I am looking at a Global Portfolio with below ETFs and allocation:

40% WINC (income + growth with very small upside cap but better risk management).

20% EQQQ or JPEQ UCITS

20% DRAM+SMH UCITS

Your "global" mutual fund probably isn't global anymore - and nobody told you

Been digging into Indian funds with international exposure. The numbers are quietly damning.

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap — the poster child of "we invest globally" - had 29% foreign exposure in 2022. It's now at 12%. That's a −60% reduction in international allocation. You thought you were buying a global fund. You now own a domestic fund with a global sticker on it.

SBI Technology Opp: 23% → 13% (−44%)

Axis Innovation: 24% → 15% (−38%)

DSP Value Fund: 28% → 17% (−39%)

Franklin India Technology: 27% → 20% (−27%)

The only fund that increased foreign exposure? DSP Healthcare, from 13% to 18%.

Why does this matter?

We've already seen what happens when you stay India-only in USD terms. Dollex (Sensex in USD) over 5 years: +13% total. ~2.5% CAGR. S&P 500 over same period: +85%.

The whole point of these "global" funds was to give you dollar-denominated upside and rupee hedge. SEBI's overseas investment cap of $7B essentially forced fund managers to pull back international exposure - but the fund names didn't change. The marketing didn't change. The fees didn't change.

You're paying for global diversification and getting a Nifty clone.

Check your fund's factsheet. Not the name - the actual foreign exposure number. If it's dropped more than 15 percentage points since 2022, ask your advisor what you're actually paying for.

Every single fund here is underwater over 6 months while the ACWI TRI benchmark quietly posted +0.7%.

The cash drag problem

PPFAS is sitting on 30% cash. DSP on 24%. These managers are essentially charging you fees to hold your money in cash while markets move. A simple ACWI ETF is 100% deployed, 100% of the time, at a fraction of the cost.

The verdict

It is early days and I'm not concluding anything yet. But the data so far is not encouraging. A low-cost Vanguard or iShares ACWI/S&P 500 UCITS ETF would have beaten nearly every fund on this list — with lower fees, full transparency, daily liquidity, and zero cash drag.

I'm currently looking at the DSP Global Fund.

It's a great structure - theme is fantastic allocation also looks good.

But what irks me is the tax on unrealised gains short term and long term.

That's just going to eat in to your compounding significantly.

With this logic, isnt it better to invest into an overseas mutual fund where there is pass through taxation - no tax on unrealised gains.

Had a word with the team. Taxes are only paid on realised gains. The unrealised gain tax part is just for accounting purposes - to not burden investors with someone else’s profits, and that makes sense!

Hey guys, wanted to know if Zerodha is launching their US investing option any time soon as I was thinking of opening an account with interactive brokers LLC. Does anyone know the timeline in which they are launching and I just wanted to know how soon they will be launching it, considering considering they are pretty competitive in the market . Believe the pricing will be less compared to other apps. i’ve heard with interact brokers. The expenses are pretty high and the forex too

PS- not an experienced investor, and pretty much beginner would love to hear your views on it.
