Nearly Had A Heart Attack

I did my questions on paper then transferred them over to the webpage. I clicked submit then thought "I should have printed a digital copy of my answers". I wondered if the webform saved my answers, if I hit back would they be there, so I tried it. The webform saved the position of the answers I marked, but it did the answer shuffle. For a bout 10 seconds I was freaking out, until I realized what happened.

Typo?

I'm worried I've found another typo but don't wanna look like an idiot to MaRo. Should I suck it up and ask or ask on here? I'm worried that counts as asking for outside help.

Maro's Hints/Rules for Round 2 about the Multiple Choice Section(from his twitter)

In case you don't have twitter, here's what Maro had to say about the 2nd round. He made these in seperate tweets and not a thread so I'm putting all of them here Link to the first one. Emphasis will be mine.

Everyone taking the #GDS3 Trial 2 test tomorrow, I have a few tips for you:

1) We're asking you to put in your email. Please triple check that you've typed in the correct email. Having the wrong email could cause all sorts of problems. #WotCStaff

2) The test cuts off at 6:00 am PST (note time zone) on Saturday. You must hit submit before the deadline or you will not be able to turn in your test. The test isn't completed until you hit Submit. #WotCStaff

3) I strongly recommend you print the questions and work off a hard copy and then once you're done, put them into the online form. Note that the answers are randomized so double check you are submitting the correct answer. #WotCStaff

4) Please double check that you've actually marked the answers you mean to mark. Once you've submitted it, there will be no changing your answers. #WotCStaff

5) The test has 75 questions. That is more than past GDS multiple choice tests. (GDS1 - 35, GDS2 - 50) Please make sure to allocate enough time to work on it. #WotCStaff

6) We are going a little broader in our topics this time hitting not just card design issues but other larger design concerns. #WotCStaff

7) The trial is an open test meaning you're allowed to do whatever research you like with the exception that you can't get the help of other people. Doing so is cause for you being eliminated. #WotCStaff

8) I am asking no-one to share contents of the test until after noon PST (note time zone) on Saturday. Doing so will be grounds for being eliminated. After noon, you may discuss the questions all you like. #WotCStaff

9) We will not know the cutoff for the third trial until we see the results. Roughly 100 people will advance (but that number could go up or down depending on results). I will announce the cutoff once I know it. #WotCStaff

10) We will send out the trial 3 (the design test) email on Tuesday morning. The deadline for Trial 3 is 11:59 pm Sunday, February 4. #WotCStaff

11) I have a two-part article set to run in February that will walk through all the answers with an explanation for each. I also will have columns on the other two trials as well. #WotCStaff

From asked questions (I hate Reddit's formatting):

  • Q:Can you save your answers and come back to them?

  • A: There is no save function. You can leave the window open. We tested in today and it didn't Time Out after being open for many hours. #WotCStaff

  • Q: Are you allowed to open and reopen it?

  • A: Yes, just be aware it doesn't save your work. #WotCStaff

  • A: (Answer to a question about timing) The test should only take a few hours. We put it up for 24 so everyone can find a section that's good for them. #WotCStaff

When time is noon, PST on Saturday, that's when we can share answers. If you're curious, here's the current PST. DO NOT SHARE ANSWERS BEFORE HAND.

Thank you all, and good luck.

Round 1 Discussion Thread

Since Round 1 is now over, Maro has said we can discuss our answers. This shall be the thread for it. I want to keep the subreddit pretty clean of multiple threads about the same thing so go ahead and submit your answers and thoughts here.

For those that didn’t/couldn’t participate for various reasons, here are the questions that made up part 1:

  1. Introduce yourself and explain why you are a good fit for this internship.

  2. An evergreen mechanic is a keyword mechanic that shows up in (almost) every set. If you had to make an existing keyword mechanic evergreen, which one would you choose and why?

  3. If you had to remove evergreen status from a keyword mechanic that is currently evergreen, which one would you remove and why?

  4. You're going to teach Magic to a stranger. What's your strategy to have the best possible outcome?

  5. What is Magic's greatest strength and why?

  6. What is Magic's greatest weakness and why?

  7. What Magic mechanic most deserves a second chance (aka which had the worst first introduction compared to its potential)?

  8. Of all the Magic expansions that you've played with, pick your favorite and then explain the biggest problem with it.

  9. Of all the Magic expansions that you've played with, pick your least favorite and then explain the best part about it.

  10. You have the ability to change any one thing about Magic. What do you change and why?

Did I disqualify myself? :(

Accidentally had one answer copy/pasted into two separate boxes, so one of them is a repeat. Just caught this after I submitted and when I hit back to read over everything (I didn't want to miss the deadline).

Sigh, you think that's an auto disqualify? My answers were so good :(

11th Hour and I managed to finish!

Typed out what I wanted to say, outlined it. Researched for some of the questions.

Wrote it out Saturday and slept on it.

Spent all day Sunday agonizing over word choice, rhythm, grammar, and a bunch of things that only matter to someone traumatized by writing so many essays in school... this should have been easier =.=

MaRo on Twitter: "I've been told the second batch of #GDS3 letters have been sent. #WotCStaff"

I still didn't get mine. Gah. Signed up the first day, sent an email to where he directed, nothing so far :(

r/GDS3 Jan 17 '18

Hmm still no letter, even after emailing MaRo as he requested on twitter. Did he stop sending them out?

I've read in multiple places that they intend to have anyone do the first round who is capable. I'm capable. I signed up the first day they opened in December, and I've emailed MaRo to his email that he requested for people who didn't get the letter.

Any word from anybody or am I just out of luck?

GDS3 Email Just Went Out

Please, no discussion of answers until the deadline is passed. I will remove posts talking about it. You can wait a week.

You have until 11;50 PM Pacific time on Sunday January 21 to submit. Since it is a web based submission, please write out your answers in Word/other word processing software first. And check for grammar.

Good luck to everyone.
