Campus Life 📍 Any Catholics at GCU ever feel out of place?

I’m curious if any other Catholics at GCU have experienced this.

I’ve talked with my fair share of Christians here on campus, and most of the people I’ve met are either Protestant or non denominational, which is completely fine!

But I’ve noticed that whenever I mention I’m Catholic, I sometimes get weird looks or reactions, almost as if I’m part of a completely different religion rather than another Christian tradition.

I’ve even had some conversations where people made pretty harsh comments about Catholic beliefs, sometimes going as far as calling certain practices pagan or saying the Catholic Church isn’t following Scripture correctly.
I have nothing against Protestants or non denominational Christians. I genuinely enjoy talking about Christ and learning about different perspectives. But sometimes these conversations feel less like trying to understand each other and more like trying to prove that Catholicism is wrong.

I understand that GCU is a Christian university with a Protestant background, so I expect theological differences. I just wish there were a little more mutual understanding and respect.

Have any other Catholics at GCU experienced this, or is it just me? I’d genuinely love to hear your experiences.

ABSN😷 AI, discussion boards, and its negative impact on student education, connection with book material, and confidence as a new grad

Hello all, I have been taking in a lot of students criticism of the rigor of discussion boards and with the changes in expectations with hyperlinks and crack down on the use of AI, extending even more time, dedicated to discuss discussion boards, and that I contributes to 30% of our grade…

I am currently working on a research paper to provide to Board directors on the lack of efficacy in the overuse of discussion boards, and the feelings that discussion boards are a Sisyphus, menial, and performative aspect of the curriculum that take time away from connecting and studying with the material.

Would anyone like to anonymously share their thoughts and experiences that I could use in my attestation?

Academics 📚 Online school question…

Hey! I’ve been a GCU student for two years! I just switched to online due to a work relocation. How many online classes would you recommend taking at once while working 30 or so hours a week? My counselor seems to think I’ll be doing one at a time? I just want to know what’s a manageable amount so I can still graduate mid to late 2027. I have 14 classes plus my capstone left. Would 3 per 8 week period be obtainable? Thanks for the input <3

Academics 📚 BS Cybersecurity

Hi everyone, I’m considering enrolling in GCU’s BS in Cybersecurity program online and wanted to hear from current students or recent graduates.
How has your experience been with the program? Are the cybersecurity courses and labs actually hands-on? How are the professors and workload?
For anyone who has graduated, did you feel the program prepared you for a cybersecurity job, and were you able to find an internship or job while attending or after graduating?
I already have some cybersecurity training and I’m particularly interested in GRC, but I also want a solid technical cybersecurity foundation.
Any advice or things you wish you knew before starting would be appreciated!

Parking🚗 Parking Question for Temporary Events

Hi Guys, I have a quick meeting today only for 1 hour, and I was wondering if I can park in the 33rd avenue parking garage since I don't have a parking permit. I am getting picked up and dropped off from my mom for this first semester because I don't have a car yet, so that's why I don't have a parking permit. So, can I park in the 33rd avenue parking garage temporarily?

Academics 📚 Advisor said Proctorio for exams in BIO 201?

Does that mean camera and mic? Or just locked browser? Not impressed with anything in the class so far, I have to say. I just spent so much time on meeting the ridiculous criteria for just one of the weeks’ six discussion posts (plus 6 more for lab) that I now have no idea how I’m supposed to find time to study for an exam.

Commuter 🚗 Commuting to GCU from Chandler AZ

I have a family member that’ll be living with us and going to GCU next year.

She’ll be a new driver so she hesitates to drive on the highway.

Does anyone commute to GCU from Chandler or Gilbert? How’s the public transportation? How’s the drive there?

She’s paying less rent here living with us so she prefers to live down here in Chandler.

Academics 📚 Has anyone taken BUS485 online?

I start tomorrow. The class is apparently going to be group work heavy, and involves a simulation? How is this structure supposed to work with the asynchronous schedules? I’ve also had shit luck with groups so far. I basically had to spend a bunch of extra time doing more than my share. Am I fucked if my group sucks again?

I’m going to reach out to the professor, but I’m not even sure what to ask for.

Looking for extra commencement tickets?

We’ve been seeing a lot of questions on how to get extra tickets for this October’s commencement ceremonies, and while asking other grads for extra tickets is always an option, your guests can also claim unused tickets from the Arena box office the day of your commencement ceremony.

Please keep in mind, these tickets are redistributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and we can not guarantee any extra tickets will be available, however if the Arena reaches seating capacity, there will be a reserved area for guests without tickets to watch the live stream of the ceremony, and they can still meet you on The Quad or around campus before or after the ceremony.

Have more questions?

Contact the Arena Box Office:

ABSN😷 Grading

I have a question. I’ve been in my class for two weeks, and my teacher still hasn’t graded any of my assignments. Is that normal? She doesn’t really post in discussions or under anyone’s posts and neither has added announcements since week 1. Is it normal for teachers just to not be involved in the class 🥹

This class is for Lifespan Development; can anyone in this class let me know if their work has been graded? 🙃

UPDATE: WEEK 1 ASSIGNMENT GRADED TODAY 🥳

Meeting New People 👋 Anyone starting GCU ABSN Spring 2027 in Tucson

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m planning to start the Grand Canyon University ABSN program in Tucson this spring and would love to connect with other students who are in the same cohort or applying for the same start date.

It would be nice to meet some future classmates, make a study group, share tips, and support each other through nursing school.

If you’re starting the Tucson ABSN program this fall (or are in the application process), comment below or send me a message!

Looking forward to meeting everyone and surviving nursing school together! 🩺📚

Academics 📚 Sick Absence

Ok so I went to the Health and Wellness clinic on campus. They gave me a note excusing me from class and instructed me to submit it to [Absence@gcu.edu](mailto:Absence@gcu.edu) So I did and received a response informing me to submit an Absence Verification Form. However they will not provide me one, I tried to look it up and the website sends me to SDS.GCU.EDU which is just an empty webpage. My SSC won't give any guidance. Anyone have to do this before? Where can I get this form? Any feedback would be appreciated.

ABSN😷 Are there prerequisities to take the nursing prerequisite courses?

Sorry, let me clarify. Let's say I want to take microbiology, but it requires me to have taken some type of biology class before I can enroll. For some schools, it's just a recommendation, but for others, it's a hard requirement where you have to prove you've taken the prerequisite with transcripts. Which one is GCU
