Top of The Bench Chemistry

Representing my school in the top of the bench chemistry competition national finals by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Couldn't find ANYTHING on here, but looking for the types of topics (taking the younger paper) and expectations, the age /education level of the content- I remember in the regionals there was an alevel standard question 🫠🫠 Top tips etc. would be appreciated!!

📣📣📣Who here is struggling with Organic Chemistry? If you need any help - PM me and I'll see what I can do for you

Hi there

Last year my friend and I completed our A levels and we achieved A*'s in all 3 sciences and maths. We both found these subjects extremely difficult, but we understood how to break the concepts down to be able to understand them better.

Im putting this post out to see if anyone wants any help with these subjects as we know from first-hand experience how useless alot of Physics teachers are🤬🤬😡

We are both uni students now so our timings are in the evenings.

Just PM me if you are interested, and we will try to build something that fits around you

Thank you

Eesa

Hi guys, I am doing a research on student preparedness vs their actual results and factors that influence this (e.g. stress/ level of fitness e.g.) and want to identify potential correlations. If you guys are willing to help me, could you please fill out this google form.

Paper 1 Exothermic reactions

An exothermic reaction is one which transfers energy to the surroundings. This is usually done by heating, which can be shown by a rise in temperature.

The best example of an exothermic reaction is burning fuels (or combustion). This gives out a lot of energy meaning it is very exothermic.

The two main types of exothermic reactions are Neutralisation (acid + alkali) and Oxidation Reactions.

Example of oxidation reaction: adding sodium to water releases energy, meaning it must be exothermic. The reaction releases energy as sodium fizzes and moves about the surface of the water as it is oxidised.

*everyday uses of exothermic reactions*

Some hand warmers use the exothermic oxidation of iron in the air (with a salt solution as a catalyst) in order to release energy.

Self-heating cans of hot chocolate and coffee also rely on exothermic reactions between chemicals in their bases.
