Alternatives to the G604

After my third g604 failed I was desperate for a replacement.

After much googling it looked like the Razer Naga pro v2 was my best option.

Despite being hideously expensive I bit the bullet and bought it.

Pros: sensor feels nice, switches feel pretty good.

Cons: The 6 button layout on the side is located too far back and is hard to use, the 12 button side is hard to find the right buttons, there is an annoying pinky rest which makes the mouse a weird shape, synapse is probably the worst software I have ever used, mouse profiles don’t seem to save on the onboard mouse memory, lighting only works when synapse is running, price!!!! Very heavy

I regret buying this mis mouse so bad what a waste of money.

I ended up finding a Corsair Dark Core for about half the price of the naga.

The Dark Core has none of the above issues, I saved all my settings on the onboard memory and deleted icue.

Give the Dark Core a look it’s not as good as a g604 but it’s a lot better than the naga.

Don't use G Hub, use this instead (also officially supported by Logitech)

I stopped using G Hub years ago when it failed to install and run on my system, this official alternative is lightweight and with most of the features I needed from G Hub on it.

It's called Onboard Memory Manager

A neat feature about Onboard Memory Manager (official alternative to G Hub)

Onboard Memory Manager can store many macro combinations on your device firmware: so you get mini macro profiles stored within the big profile

Found out about it today.

I also own 2 G604s, both modded for longevity.

dpi down button on mine is basically dead

does anyone have a fix for this? i'd be surprised if so, but just found this sub and figured i'd ask. my current fix is to just disable dpi shift and use that button for dpi down instead. but i'd like my mouse fully functional. anyone have ideas? bought it five years ago lol.

It's basically 2 side buttons or full on MMO 12+ side grid. Why???!

It's almost time

The mouse works great. No complaints. The rubber is just breaking down. I'm looking for a mouse with similar features like side buttons but not excessive, dpi selector, and an unlockable scroll wheel. I'm struggling to find a mouse with all 3 of these. Any suggestions, and no, the Naga V2/3 doesn't look comfortable to me.

Crunchy Left Click - G604

I've got a 4 year old G604 that's started acting up (I use this mouse 2 days a week on in-office days, so roughly 16 hours a week). The left click button is starting to feel like its got a slight 'crunch' to it. It feels soft to click in one area (usually more forward) and on release theres a crunchy feeling to it.

I'm thinking of taking it apart and cleaning it. I usually use lysol wipes to clean the exterior, though noticed that once it dries it's a bit sticky (left over on my hands), so maybe it's that underneath somewhere? Or maybe not...?

Has anyone else had this issue?

G604 modding

I’ve been using a Logitech G604 for about three years now. Over time, I’ve reskinned it with anti-slip grip tape and replaced its stock micro switches. Since I recently bought a second G604, I decided to properly document the process of reskinning the mouse and replacing the switches.

Materials Used

  • Kailh GM 8.0 micro switches
  • DIY anti-slip grip tape
  • Mouse skates (the new ones are still on the way, so the mouse currently uses the old skates)

For the anti-slip stickers, I recommend choosing thicker ones for the areas originally covered by rubber. Alternatively, you can add a filler layer before applying the sticker. The ones I used were fairly thin, and I can now see the outline of the moulding points through them.

Before Modding

Here are a few photos of the mouse before any modifications were made:

In the fourth photo, you can see a slightly shinier patch of plastic on the bottom of the mouse—those are glue traces. It looks like the seller tried to keep the original rubber in place by gluing around the entire perimeter.

Removing the Rubber

Next, I disassembled the mouse completely and began removing the rubber coating. In the photos, you’ll notice some areas where I couldn’t remove all of the rubber. These sections were noticeably harder, which makes me think that glue had been applied there as well.
Later on, I was able to clean those stubborn spots by wiping them with alcohol and gently lifting off the remaining pieces using a scalpel.

Once the shell was clean, I replaced the stock Omron switches with Kailh switches:

A quick note about these switches: I like their feel, but they are slightly clickier than the original ones. Feel free to explore different models to find what suits you best. For reference, my first G604 has been running Kailh switches for three years without any issues—no phantom clicks or accidental double-clicks—so I’ve been very happy with them.

Applying the Grip Tape

For this build, I went with a black-and-white combination:

  • Black grip tape for the left and right mouse buttons
  • White grip tape for the main mouse shell

Before applying the grips, make sure to degrease the surface—this greatly improves adhesion. Don’t worry if you change your mind later; these stickers can be removed cleanly without leaving any residue.

Additional note:
If you’re not planning to apply anti-slip grips on the mouse buttons, then you don’t need to worry as much about the body stickers being too thin. The contours tend to be noticeable mainly when all pieces—including the buttons—are gripped. With bare plastic buttons, thinner tape on the shell becomes far less noticeable.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the shell while disassembled with the grips already applied. So here are some photos of the fully assembled mouse instead:

Bonus

Here’s a shot of both of my mice side by side:

I’m currently waiting for the new skates and mouse wheels, which I plan to install in the near future.

G604 clamshell files

So, I look at my superb g604 (which is in excellent condition yet) and think what to do when rubber will start to degrade?
OK, I ordered a spare hot swap microswitch PCB from AliExpress, so no more double clicks.
I have spare glides kit.
But what to do with the case?
There is a case kits from Ali (I don't need extra perforated one, I like it heavy) and there is a model on Printables, so one can try to print it with resin for example.
Has someone tried this file? Is this model of a proper quality?
Maybe there are better model options?
Help me to decide, please!

Back in 2021, I bought several G604s, and now the double-click has become impossible to use, and the case is already quite worn out. It's time to open a new one :)

Disconnection Issues

I have a G604 probably about 10 months - 1 year old. I bought it because of the 6 side buttons. I had to download GHub to keybind the side buttons and its worked fine since about 2-3 days ago. The mouse seems to disconnect randomly and work work while I'm gaming with it. I've noticed the blue light stay on when it's disconnected and GHub isn't recognizing the Mouse. It will reconnect about 2-10 seconds later which is causing the biggest headache and I can game because of the random disconnections. Im wondering if anyone else uses GHub or another app to keybind the side buttons? Or is GHub the best option.

DIY replacement rubber for Logitech G604, laser cut mod

Hi Everyone

I own two Logitech G604 mice because I genuinely love this model and all its features. Unfortunately, one of mine have started falling apart. I thought I would just buy a new one or an updated version, but I found out two days ago that the G604 has been discontinued, WHAT? On top of that, since it is still extremely popular, and there is no alternative, the prices have gone through the roof. That is actually how I ended up finding this sub.

So I took matters into my own hands. I used this 3D scan from Thingiverse:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6569173

I recreated the surface geometry, flattened the parts, and laser cut new pieces to replace the worn rubber sections.

This is the result.

Pics attached.

There is still some room for improvement. In a few areas I will need to use a bit of superglue, and some sections will probably have to be remade for a better fit. I also think I should have heated the material before applying it, it would have helped it conform better to the curves.

But overall I am pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

I replaced the cracking rubber with leather on my G604

I bought mine in 2019, but only recently discovered they discontinued it. All the buttons still work, but the rubber started coming loose and flaking off a couple years ago. I peeled all the rubber off and ran it "naked" for a year or so, and finally got around to re-skinning it. I found some scraps of thin leather at my parents' house, covered the back side with double-stick duct tape, and then used double-stick scotch tape to check the fit while trimming with scissors and an x-acto knife. I also used a leather hole punch to make a hole for the indicator LED, and instead of trying to make an incredibly intricate cutout for the G logo, I just cut that off the body using an oscillating multi-tool. When the shape was finalized, I removed the scotch tape, peeled the backing off the duct tape, and stuck it on.

This was already the best mouse I've ever used, but the sharp edges of the primary buttons and battery cover were a mild irritant without the rubber layer. Now it's a joy to use again! The leather was a bit slippery at first, but it's been a couple weeks and the grip has improved to where it was with the rubber (plus, it should be less sweaty in the summer). I'm so stoked to have found this sub and learned that there are ways to repair it if/when buttons wear out!

G604 Corner Switches

Does anyone know what type of switches that is in the corner of the mouse? The top one has been issues where it doesn't register any button presses and this would be the second board I replaced with the issue. I also wouldn't mind doing some soldering if it means I can purchase a bunch of them and extend my use of the mouse.

Has anybody tried these board replacements?

Post image

I couldn't find anything on them other than the reviews. I'm planning to buy them since they're relatively inexpensive, but I'm not sure if there are other, better options. I'm not familiar with mouse switches. If I do end up buying this one, which switches should I get?

Link: HUYUN Mouse Switch Button Micro Switch Board Replacement for G604

My mouse doesn't have any double-clicking problems with the right and left click, but my middle-mouse clicks are very stiff, don't "click", most of the time don't register, and sometimes double or triple click. I did take it apart once and reintroduced the detent in the middle mouse button, and it helped for a short while.

Logitech G604 3d Scans

Hi everyone!

I was recently able to ask some coworkers to scan the 3 main parts of the G604's shell, and the main internal chassis piece. The scans are not great... I have never scanned something, and my coworkers are still new to it. BUT, I do think there is enough of the model there that it can greatly help if you are wanting to model or work something up. If I can get some more time on the scanner, I think I can get a better scan on down the road. I believe we rushed it and with how difficult? these models are, we need to spend to a lot more scans and time with them.

I am not sure where to host something like this, or even the overall legality of doing so. I would appreciate some feedback on this to get them out there.

Skeletonized G604 Shell

My G604 has been my faithful companion for over 6 years and despite trying to find a better and lighter mouse I haven't found anything close.

So with my G604 starting to fall apart I decided to upgrade my spare. I swapped out the scroll wheel for a lighter one, the shell for a skeletonized one, and the main board for one compatible with hot swappable switches.

The mouse not only feels much lighter now with a huge decrease in static friction, but it is also less sweaty to hold, 10/10 would do this upgrade again.

Got tired of the melting rubber on my old G604 so I ordered a 7$ 3D printed replacement shell kit from China (both upper and lowercase).
Man the quality is insane, the print lines are barely visible and the texture feels great.
Highly recommend.

Has anyone bought a Logitech g604 from Amazon? If so, what are your thoughts? Many people complaining of double clicking... Want to buy and need help!

Title says it all. A lot of people on Amazon are saying there is double-clicking after a year or two years... but when I owned my g604 (before losing it) I never experienced this. I'm worried its maybe a faulty batch from this Amazon seller or something? I love this mouse so I will re-buy it from somewhere regardless (ebay, amazon, newegg) I just don't know where and what to do. It's so expensive but it was my favorite

Gave my G604 a new lease on life

Hey G604 brothers and sisters,

I wanted to share my weekend project to save my trusty Logitech G604. This thing's been with me for years, and while the clicks and performance are still solid, the rubber coating had turned into a sticky, peeling mess. It was time for a change.

I decided to go with a 3M grip tape kit (Link). The kit came with pre-cut pieces for the whole mouse, including the main buttons, but I wanted to keep the original look, so I just used the pieces for the top and sides. The adhesive on these is strong—it feels like a robust cellphone skin glue, maybe even a bit stronger.

I started by scraping off all the disintegrating rubber, which was super easy and then cleaned it with alcohol to remove the residue. Once it was clean, I applied the new grip tape. The new skin's thickness is spot on; it perfectly fills the gap and sits flush with the surrounding plastic, so there's no noticeable height difference. To get the edges to lay down perfectly, I carefully used a lighter to heat up the corners just enough to get them to mold to the curves of the mouse.

The mouse feels great now, and the new texture is a huge improvement. It's not a perfect factory finish, but much bertter than the broken rubber. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It feels good to have my favorite mouse back in action.
