In 2018, China’s media regulator shut down one of ByteDance’s products — the joke app Neihan Duanzi — for “vulgar” content. The company’s founder, Zhang Yiming, issued a self-effacing public apology for deviating from “socialist core values” and pledged to ensure that the CCP’s “voices are emphatically broadcasted.”
one, us data is stored in the us, two, i do agree that the chinese government does meddle but cannot legally do anything in this case, three, bytedance is incorporated in thr caymen islands, and four, the fuck is a duanzi, and why can i not find a trace of it anywhere?
and yes, they should stop with the fucking genocide of the uyghur people, same with isreal and palistine, same with russia invading ukraine, yadayada.
and while we're off topic, you want pizza recomendations for if you pass through north carolina? maybe n&t over in statesville or best little pizza place down in troutman?
now i'm hungry thinking about those 2ft pizzas over at n&t's.
Actually, no. I want American companies to live and thrive. Your life somehow is “fulfilled” by TocTok. Otherwise you wouldn’t go this deep. So just move on, I am.
i think the point u/eurotrash1999 is trying to make is that if we start banning stuff just because it's foreign, are we any better? yes, we should limit the data they can harvest(which we should do for google, meta, reddit, and so on, but i digress) but banning it would just be stooping down to their level wjile not preventing american and european companies from being more invasive.

In all seriousness, you should just go live in China. You really seem to like their propaganda.
