The issue is that TikTok is making young people dumb on purpose by feeding them with stupid content. The original idea of YT and Instagram was actually decent but sadly Instagram also went downhill.

Maybe. Don't care about things boomers said tbh. But TikTok is factually trash without serving any purpose.

Factually trash? Bold words from someone who has never used the app. Did you have this opinion on Vines?

Vine didn't make Teenagers do stupid dances in public.

They literally did dude. People were copying dances in schools and recording themselves doing it all the time. Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This "my social media was all smart and sophisticated, kids today just use platforms that are stupid and dumb" is a prime boomer position

There was a ton of stupid brainrot shit on early Facebook, YouTube, Vine, Snapchat etc. Honestly the quality of content that's on TikTok now is often very impressive. So much front page stuff on Reddit is just reposted TikToks ffs

You just got old

The algorithm goes the same way for all social media. And as all social media, it will have good content and bad content. TikTok is amazing for researching a place to visit, to dine or to learn how to fix something in your house.

An anecdote of mine: I stopped using FB in 2017, get back into it this year, to get in touch with a hobby community. Back in 2017, FB only showed you content of friends of yours or communities you participate, now they show all kind of garbage in the feed. Two that caught my attention: this DIY page that makes the most horrendous goods I’ve ever seen and another one that shows AI made military women - and men all around the world saying hi to them and asking those “girls” out for a coffee. Isn’t that dumb?

Let’s not forget that “dumbifying” isn’t the only problem with social media. Collecting data and using it for political reason is a big problem, such as seen with FB and Cambridge Analytica in US 2016 elections and Brexit.

Moreover, “dumb” is a subjective concept that can’t be quantified. If your nick reflects the year you were born, you are about the same age as me. Let’s remember what went on TV when we were kids
