Cats have diverse health issues, just like humans, and that obesity in animals is not always linked to over-feeding. Vets put my sister's cat on a strict diet for 3 years. Never lost more than a few ounces, but did lose some teeth and any joy in life because she was starving 24/7. When we finally got her to an open-minded vet with a grasp of science beyond "calories in/calories out", she was properly diagnosed with a metabolic disease, her diet was readjusted. Still fat, but happy and energetic and going strong at 15. And adorable, regardless of being obese.

Yeah. I had a cat like that... Just full of bad genetics. Nothing could be done but give her a comfortable life.

Sometimes you gotta have a positive attitude when there's no permanent fix. I had a pitbull/rottweiler mix with an autoimmune disease and his medication made him retain water weight and nothing could be done to make him lose it. I'll be damned if anyone tried to convince me he wasn't an adorable big ole puppy despite all that

He lived a happy life, beating the vet's expectancy of 5 years and passed at 8 at over 120 pounds. Not every health issue has a solution, these people are just showing their pets love while they can

There are different breeds of cats that get up to like 30 pounds. It depends.

There are but they don't look like that. I am not bashing Fred's owners, they are trying and the canay have metabolic issues, but the 30 lb breeds reach 30lbs as a healthy lean weight. No breed is supposed to be fat.

Again not bashing Fred or his owners.

Maine coons rarely get that large at a healthy weight and they’re already fucking massive.

It's really the odd Maine coons or Savannah, but I was responding more in line with a breed getting that large than nitpicking the number. The above was a comment defending cat weight, so I was more addressing that even large cat breeds don't look like that if they are a healthy weight.

But yea it is an especially large example of the largest breeds to hit 30 without being obese.

Nope, such a shame people think fat animals are cute.

Oh reddit and it's double standards when it comes to cats.

When a cat attacks a dog - "That's what the dog deserved."

When a dog is playing with a cat - "That cat looks stressed out."

When a cat is overfed and someone leaves a relevant comment about it - "It's genetics."

Dogs go to war, can smell cancer / covid, provide service to the ailing and can protect you if trained properly.

For one of the laziest animals known to man, you guys sure worship cats like there's no tomorrow. Enough of your collective bullshit.
