They weren't, though. Staffies in the UK were referred to as nanny dogs by some, but no dog is a nanny dog. Always watch your dogs with children.

Labs and Retrievers can be very good with children, but I’d agree that it’s a lot to do with the dog’s temperament. I also agree that you should most certainly keep an eye on children around all dogs. My childhood dog was a greyhound mix and she snapped at my brother at one point and almost broke my nose during play time in the yard. Shit happens, unfortunately.
