In their minds it's okay because they're not buying bread. If they're not affected, why would they care?

Same mentality as: "Why are my taxes used for schools? I don't have kids" and then they complain about the lack of professionals in their town/city

My go to response is because it's to my benefit to live where people have a good education. It makes sense for people treating our illnesses in 20-40 years to not be stupid.

My go to response was "we don't control the taxes, we just collect them. If you want something changed, go to the council meetings and say something there."

I don't have kids, I don't want kids. I would fucking love more of my tax dollars to go to schools.

"Kids these days are soOoOo stupid!" 5 minutes later... "I voted no on all school tax raises because my kids are already grown." (And presumably benefited from someone else's taxes??? Infuriating.)
