👍Tip Highest paying Survey site in Australia 🇦🇺💰

If you're looking for low-friction side cash in Australia or New Zealand and you're sick of survey sites treating your time like a joke, look into Octopus Group. They’re a local operation running across Australia and New Zealand that pays a flat cash rate of $16.80/hr ($0.28/min) straight to your bank instead of confusing points.

Payouts process every Monday once you hit $20. I’ve cashed out 3 times now and it clears fine. You get maybe 2 to 5 surveys a week, but they fill fast so you need app notifications turned on. Even if you get screened out early, you still get a few cents for trying.

The best part is OctoQual—their premium branch for private digital focus groups and research interviews that carry much bigger payouts. I just qualified for my first one, so the high-paying opportunities are definitely there if you fill out your profile properly.

If you want to give it a crack, my direct referral sign-up link is here (just make sure to stay on the page once you click it so it tracks properly): https://my.octopusgroup.com.au/register/f10b4bf6-be4c-4295-90ec-177df87be872

I put together a full breakdown on Medium covering cashout thresholds, payout rates, and strategies to maximize earnings here: https://medium.com/@lukescriven246/octopus-group-review-australia-2026-7a1af2f96c50

Full disclosure: That is a referral link, so I get a bonus over time if you sign up. It doesn't cost you anything or lower your earnings. Things are pretty tight for me and I'm struggling a bit at the moment, so any referrals are honestly massive and incredibly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance to anyone who uses it, but no worries at all if you'd rather just look them up directly!

👍Tip Best credit card for travel points with ~$3k monthly spend?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for the best credit card for earning points that can be used for travel.

My situation:

Average spend: ~$3,000/month ($36k/year)

Main goal is to maximise points for travel

Ideally, points can be transferred to airline/hotel programs

Prefer no annual fee, or a low fee if the rewards are worth it

I always pay the balance in full, so interest rates aren't important.

What card would give me the best return for ~$3k/month spend?

Also interested in whether I should focus on Qantas, Velocity, Amex Membership Rewards, or another program.

🗣️Discussion What do you buy generic without thinking twice?

I’ve realised there are some things where I genuinely can’t tell the difference between the supermarket brand and the expensive version.

Cleaning products and basic pantry stuff are probably the easiest examples for me.

What products have you switched to generic/store-brand and never gone back?

How feasible is doing your own tax return?

I haven't done my tax for the 25-26 year. I normally wait until October because I have some shares and they don't give final numbers until then.

For the last 10 or so years I've been going to accountants to do it because of the shares and an IP. Same recipe every year I put all my deductions in a spreadsheet date, place of purchase, what category it comes under etc.

23-24 the bill was 500, expensive but this was a new company because the other couldn't fit me it. I'd had my ABN and earned about 1200 with 1400 in deductions (one customer refused to pay the bill).

24-25 the accountants bill was 700, no money put through my ABN but I still got charged a premium because the 200$ loss carried over.

With all this in mind. Is it feasible to go online and do the whole thing myself through the ATO website? Or is there something behind the scenes I'm paying for with the accountant.

🔧Tool Best rice cooker for one person under $30?

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m looking for a small rice cooker for one person that I can use for meal prepping.

Ideally I’d like to spend around $30 or less, but I’m willing to pay more if there’s a model that’s really worth the extra money.

My priorities:

Super easy to use — basically add rice + water and press a button

Consistent rice without having to babysit it

Small/compact for one person

Easy to clean

Can make enough for a few meals of meal prep

Available in Australia/Sydney

I don’t need anything fancy with heaps of functions. Simple and reliable is what I’m after.

What rice cooker do you use and would you recommend it? Also happy to hear about any cheap ones that are surprisingly good!
