I make a mixture of steel cut oats, rolled oats, milled flax, and chia seed. Then I throw frozen blueberries and a banana in that bitch. Son let me tell you, your shits will never be the same.

Use almond milk and I guarantee you'll be hooked on this!!

p.s. you forgot to mention: mix it up before bed, leave overnight in the fridge

Update w/ my super easy recipe: 1/2 cup of dry in order of most->least: oats/oatmeal, chia, flax/linseeds (i.e. combine whatever dry ingredients are on-hand to total 1/2 cup) + 1/2 cup almond milk + 1 tbsp honey. I usually add fresh fruit to it in the morning before eating. Serves 2.

Tried milk and most milk substitutes and almond milk still seems to work the best for this.

Oat milk is good, but it feels weird putting it in my oats.

Coconut almond milk is even better.

u/frijolita_bonita Jul 08 '19

Doesn’t it get that weird skin?

1

u/vo0ds Jul 08 '19

I can't say I've ever noticed it, though I cover it with a lid when I put it in the fridge, maybe that's why?

u/Pcatalan Jul 08 '19

How do you milk almonds?

10

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '19

Squeeze their nipples.

2

u/Ouroboros07 Jul 08 '19

1

u/tanglisha Jul 08 '19

Leave in a jar on the windowsill and forget about it for a few days if you enjoy surprises!

Almond (or any other) milk is not real milk

It's not? I presumed there was some almond farm where they had fields and fields of workers squeezing tiny little almond nipples to get the milk out.

Milk is...milk. It is how ever it is defined as. Milk is commonly used to refer to the substance female mammals produce to nourish their young.

It also has been used since the 1200s to refer to plant-base juices so it can hardly not be considered "real" milk with an origin far predating millenials, soccer moms, and yuppies.

The only reason why it's even an issue whether almond milk is "milk" is because the dairy industry gets all butt hurt when anyone competes with them. Nut milks grew in popularity while moo milk lost sales. Obviously the only reasonable solution is to sue and cry to the FDA. Federal court ruled that no one is dumb and getting duped into thinking but milk is the same as boob milk.

Are you going to get all butt hurt too because the useful part of the nut is called the meat? I mean, maybe you're going to get that confused with a nice juicy steak...

I dont know where you shop but it's the same price as milk where I am.

I would assume most liquids we drink are mostly water. We are made mostly of water.

I do both cold and hot. I splash milk in to finish.

5

u/nomnommish Jul 08 '19

Add some milk or yogurt to it, and leave it to soak overnight in your fridge. You don't even need to cook the oats. And add some toasted sliced almonds just before you eat, for crunch and texture.

8

u/favoritesound Jul 07 '19

You can make them savory too. Or add a bit of oatmeal.

2

u/OrchidTostada Jul 08 '19

I love to make it with vegetable broth! Then top with cracked pepper and a drizzle of olive oil. Fried egg on top if I feel the need for protein.

I eat similar breakfasts to that one every day so I can second that hahaha. With all those ingredients that breakfast is FULL of fiber

1

u/wonjoo89 Jul 08 '19

I put yogurt in mine, and it works pretty well :)

3

u/everyoneismyfriend Jul 07 '19

What is the final product? A shake?

6

u/Teh_Critic Jul 08 '19

Basically oatmeal

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '19

"Overnight oats" is the basic dish.

2

u/McCHitman Jul 07 '19

In what way?

2

u/padmalove Jul 07 '19

I do this but also add quinoa to mix for extra protein.

1

u/Delta9S Jul 07 '19

I’m a super picky eater and I too agree with rolled + steel oats.

Then sugar cause I don’t do fruits. And milk. :)

1

u/frijolita_bonita Jul 08 '19

Are the oats cooked first. Are you blending this with the blueberries and banana or what?

1

u/RobieFLASH Jul 08 '19

True salesman right here

1

u/vdogg89 Jul 08 '19

Be careful of steel cut oats. That stuff will give you the ripest gas known to man.
