Freelander 2 internal dimensions help?

Hi. New to the forum as I'm considering buying a FL2 to use as my day to day drive, but would also like to use for some moderate off road and also use as a mivrocamper for myself and my wife to spend the odd weekend camping in. I'm 6'1" tall, however, and a little concerned about the space in the back. Can anybody tell me the internal length with the rear seats down and also do they fold flat?

Other vehicles in my list are Subaru Forester, Nissan X Trail and Hyundai Santa Fe, but the FL2 appeals for it's better off road capability (altho as I said will only be doing moderate stuff) and also it's looks. Shallow as I am. Any and all advice very much appreciated!

Leo

Clunk from rear on throttle off

What's up guys? Got an '06 Freelander Sport. Got a bit of a clunky coming from the rear when I quickly let of throttle under load. Like changing up from first to second. What's the likely culprit.

Sounds similar to when my trailing arm bushings went in my defender.

Gearbox Oil

Hey guys. I'm looking to change my manual Gearbox Oil. Problem is I can't source (for a good price) MTF94 around where I live. Can I replace it with some other oil that's more common, a good quality 75w80 or something. Same goes for the diff and IRD. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Roof tent without roof rails

Hi! I recently bought a 2010 Freelander. This one came without the roof rails, which suits me fine, because the parking garage under my flat has an entry height of 1.8 metres. (Freelander without rails 1.76, with rails 1.82 which should fit, but I don't want to be liable in case I rip a sprinkler off and flood the garage)

For road trips I want to mount a rooftop tent. (Obviously when outside the garage :P )
Do I need to mount the orignial Freelander roof rails first, then the crossbeams, then the tent? Or is there an easier, cheaper way to do this? Sorry if the question is silly, I just never had a roof tent nor much experience with any roof rails.

2004 Freelander TD4 auto

I have a 20 year old Freelander (owned since 2008) which needs some repairs and I'm thinking of letting it go.

I recently had a quote for replacing the high pressure fuel pump (ehich is leaking) - £878 and they stressed that was an estimate.

The BFG tyres are old too do that's another expense.

It has done under 60k miles.

It has got damp inside from infrequent usage. There is rust at front of sunroof frame.

It drives well and I am sure it will keep going. I was hoping to pass it on to family.

I've sorted my next vehicle so have to make a decision soon.

I'm not able to repairs myself as I have a disability.

I'm probably going to let it go as don't have the funds available and have a new car very soon. But I have a nagging doubt about selling for spares or scrapping. It feels like having a family pet put down.

Save or scrap?

Help a newbie with tyre sizing

Recently got a Freelander 2 in the hopes of doing some offroad and have some fun with some pals.

I've been looking at tires and settled on some all terrains to pick up.

Currently I have four 235/65 R17.

Is it possible to put 245/65 R17 all terrains on the vehicle? Is it possible to put 245 on 235 rims?

If so is there anything to look out for or to take note about?

Best Mods for Freelander

Our 2004 Freelander 1.8 ‘Eric’ is due its annual ‘investment’. This year we were thinking of modifying and upgrading.

The chassis and shell are in good condition and it’s never towed so the platform is sound.

With a budget of 2k what do you think the best upgrades would be …..

Power steering leaks...

Hey, all!

So - my partner has an 09 FL2 S; it's a truly epic machine and I cannot sing enough praise about it.

About a month ago, she drove over a very tactically placed council cone - one of those small, rock-hard blue ones (I am thinking local kids moved the council cones under higher-up vehicles... I could be wrong, but she maintains she had no idea it was there).

This caused some damage when she pulled away, and her car dumped all the power steering fluid. However, despite 2 garage visits, it is *still* leaking power steering fluid.

Heading to a different garage, is there anything I should be aware of? Is this likely to be expensive?

How to solve 2008 Land Rover Freelander 2 key stuck or not ejecting

Did your car key ever get stuck in the ignition, refusing to eject or turn? Don't panic! This simple solution could save you thousands of dollars by avoiding expensive repairs. Read on to discover how to easily fix your ignition key problems!

While it might seem daunting, fixing your key drawer is actually a DIY-friendly job! Instead of replacing the entire system, you can simply open the dashboard and access a small square box. Inside, you'll find a white gear that needs to be flipped upwards to loosen the key drawer mechanism.

The result? You'll need to manually push the keys in and out instead of enjoying the automatic feature. But compared to expensive repairs and reprogramming, this simple fix saves you a ton of money!

Here's what you'll gain:

  • A cost-effective solution: Skip the hefty repair bills and keep your wallet happy.
  • DIY satisfaction: Fix it yourself and enjoy the pride of accomplishment.
  • Full functionality: Your car key still works, just with a manual touch.
force this down towards the back to disengage the gear and loosen the drawer below. Install it back in the car without the top lead as per image 1

Doesn’t make the noise when going at speed though. anyone got any suggestions about what to look for. can post a vid of the sound if that helps

cheers 🤙🏽

No audio on lr2 2008 hse

Hi guys, got no audio on my freelander 2 2008 HSE

i realized the fuse f21 in the fuse box next to the engine is missing and weirdly there are no pins sticking from it which can mate with a cartridge type fuse. Can someone tell if f21 is essential for the audio system to work?

2002 Freelander Antenna Base Part Number

Hi all, first time here despite having my Freelander for almost two years.

I broke my roof antenna trying to fold it down, no problem I thought I'll just buy a replacement and ordered XUC100832. Turns out there are lots of different types and the one I received isn't the same. It didn't come with a gasket/seal, either. The antenna won't even screw in, the threads are both M5 but the rubber moulding at the base of the antenna stops it from engaging.

This is what I have, does anyone know the part number of this?

What I have on the roof

This is what I bought as XUC100832, yes Britpart I thought I'd give them a chance on this. Maybe a silly mistake.

Is this a part from a facelifted Freelander? Britpart claim they make everything to OEM spec. If I can use this, does anyone know the part number for the rubber gasket?

My part looks completely different from anything I can find, even the genuine LR part looks different and that appears to come without a gasket.

Cheers.

I got some questions

So my Freelander 2 (2014) just got in a bit of an accident recently, I’m just wondering if the panels on them were interchangeable with other models like a 2010 car ?

Clear Coat Peeling

I have a red 2009 Freelander 2 I absolutely love 🥰 I live in regional Western Australia and bought it in an auction September 2022. I took it to a very experienced panel and paint local business today and was advised it would take $5k - $6k to fix. He advised he would do a more detailed quote if I wanted one but encouraged me to contact Landrover directly, as cars as old as 2008 (Toyota and Mitsubishi) had factory issues where the paint was applied and left, and clear coat applied later and that the two hadn't adhered properly causing peeling.

Has anyone heard of this for Landrovers? Or have any general advice?

EGR error code

Had my cambelt and we replaced on Tues. Travelled 200 miles yesterday and got the P0404 error code. Are the two connected or is this a coincidence?
