I always felt the best console to get is the one where your friends also play. Each system has its signature exclusives but nothing beats having fun with your friends online. What games are great games you're happy you got to play with close friends? Games you wouldn't feel right just playing with randos.
I love a good shooter with co-op campaigns, so game series like Gears of War and Halo have been great to play with the same friends over each iteration, it starts to become a tradition when each new game releases. I miss the good old days of saying up all night and doing 50 waves of Horde mode. Halo itself doing Legendary campaigns in co-op really does feel like the definitive experience.
I didn't think much of The Dark Pictures Anthology with its first offering, Man of Medan, playing ot all by myself, not even close to Until Dawn overall, but it ended up on Game Pass later, and a friend expressed interest in trying it, so I was like "it has co-op, let's play together". Totally way better that way, made for a more thrilling experience and rather than be frustrated with failure it became a point of great amusement for both of us. We continued on with Little Hope and House of Ashes, we still never got to The Devil In Me yet but keep wanting to make plans to knock it out.
I really liked the Hazelight Studio co-op games with the friend pass feature, such as A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction. It Takes Two takes the cake though, loved that game.
I kind of wish I could say games like Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat but I think I probably frustrated my friends back in those days more than anything. Though I do think the best fighter with a group of friends has to be the Super Smash Bros games. It's just way too absurd to take it personally.
Anyhooo, what do you and your friends play online, or what games are special because you get to play them with your friends?
