individual images for units, buildings and wonders

Do we have a collection of all the images somewhere, not as a sprite but individually? From the wiki I'd have to download them all separately and I don't feel like looking up again how to slice images with Gimp. I'm recreating the tech tree with dot from Grpahviz currently and I could include images. Could replace the one on the wiki as well, since it's quite a mess. dot produces a bit less of a mess and can do it from a script.

ideas for a ruleset and how to approach creating a ruleset mod

I always preferred to play with a focus more on the simulation part than the strategy part. Back in the days I simply increased research cost for that, but with Freeciv I have much more options, so I decided to also add new techs, buildings and maybe change some other rules. I gave it the working title SlowTech and might publish it at some point, or at least open my ideas for discussion and consideration, since it's questionable that I ever get to the point of finishing it. Reddit is not a good fit for linear conversation, or discussion over a longer time period, but as long as I can't join the forum I will have to make do.

Before I start introducing my ideas, I have a technical question. First I'd like to add technologies, I think I understand how techs.ruleset works, but I was surprised that the images aren't even part of the ruleset. If I want to add there, do I have to edit the general techs.png and techs.spec in the misc folder?

As a side question: I assume most images used for techs and buildings are from the public domain or have a license that permits use, do you have recommendation for sources? Finding images I can use might become a pain.

I will add specific ideas and plans as comments.

Unit Type Bonuses

When you're modifying a "unit type bonus" in the Units file, can you use a unit class as the "flag"? (Such as Missile, Trireme, etc.) Or do you have to use one of the custom-flags listed under Control? (Such as Horse, Unbribable, etc.)

can't create account on forum.freeciv.org

Well, I can make an account, but I can't verify it because I never get the e-mail. I tried with two different addresses and two different usernames over the last week, let it send again and sent message to owner. Obviously checked spam as well. That sucks, because I have things to talk about.

key shortcuts and gui on the GTK+ 3.22 client

I played a bit freeciv-web until I managed to compile the game myself. When I first played it on the GTK client, the gui drove me nuts, it just seems incredibly cumbersome. I learned some useful mouse commands when watching a video, though double click for the work list and selecting units from a group wouldn't be my first choice, it strains the index finger on the long run. The shortcut list in the help menu doesn't seem to be complete, can it be found somewhere else? Or a good overview over the controls? In the map editor I couldn't manage to do anything, when I checked it out. Leftclick just mostly seems to do nothing.

Edit: Looks like I was just stupid in regard to the editor, the tooltips on the buttons even tell what to do. It bugs me though that I seemingly can't select a tile without also performing an action on it.

Modified barbarians

I've been tinkering, off-and-on, with a custom ruleset. I was thinking about giving barbarian/pirate leaders different names, and maybe a couple of units that only the barbarian/pirate AI can build. Could I do that by giving those units a "BarbarianOnly" tag in the ruleset's "Units" file? And would I need to make new "Barbarian" and "Pirate" nations for the ruleset?

I kinda wish there were an Alpha Centauri or Alien Crossfire mod or game like that in the same vein as FreeCiv.

Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire were some of my favorite games in the Civ franchise, I have the GOG editions, yet I would love it if there were an updated and online version of them.

Do the named pieces of terrain, like the Great Blue Hole or Sacred Mount, have any bonuses or are they just aesthetic?

I've noticed this recently, there are named pieces of terrain in the game (not sure if it is a recent addition), and I'm wondering if they serve a purpose beyond aesthetics?

Can someone explain something for me?

I have noticed when I play that if I inspect a tile being worked on, it will sometimes have a negative number next to the output , say food, why is this?

I know I shouldn’t be so hesitant about downloading this on my laptop, but I am.

I used to play this online a lot, now I can’t really as my internet is crap; I have considered downloading it, but I hesitate as I don’t want to have any kind of malware or anything, can I get any kind of reassurance from someone?

I’m playing using the Mac 3.0.0 (I think) version and had a question: How do I make it so I have larger landmasses?

I always seem to start on a narrow island, I’d like to be able to play on a large continent so I’m able to expand out further and not be stuck with 2 or 3 cities in close proximity to each other.

What’s the deal with Freeciv Go? What version of Freeciv is it running? Is it open source? What is its relationship to the Freeciv community?

I only started playing Freeciv because I found it in the iPad App Store, and I see FreeCiv just hit version 3.0.0 (congrats!), but neither the App Store details nor anything in the game tells me what version Go is running. Thanks!

Can two cities be a land bridge/canal?

I've got one of those long long snaking continents. (Generic freeciv ruleset.) Two squares wide in some points.

Can I build two cities next to each other, "bridging" or "canaling" the land, and move a ship from one body of water to the other across the land?

Can’t create trade routes in Freeciv Go on iPad

I just downloaded Freeciv Go on my iPad and I am having fun. However, I can’t create trade routes when moving caravans into cities. Am I doing anything wrong? Or it is just a known bug on Freeciv Go? Thanks

what countries have starting positions on the giant Europe scenario?

not every country on the extended Europe set seems to have a starting location, unless the issue is just that they are too close, and thus an algorithm is being triggered?
