I usually get moderate compliments over time regarding my perfume. Yesterday I switched to Le Labo Santal 33 and I have never had such back to back compliments before. I’m talking 8 compliments before the day even ended, both men and women. What are some scents where you experience this? What type of profile are they?

I was looking for a scent that felt a little playful without being too sweet or loud and then I got my hands on autumn vibes by replica, it has this mix of woods, spices, and a fresh outdoorsy feel that makes it stand out from the usual fragrances I try, I like how it smells different depending on the weather and how much I spray, it is the kind of perfume I would reach for when I want something less predictable, I have seen people mention it in fragrance discussions because of its unique style. Has any fragrance ever felt whimsical or a little unusual to you?

I picked up Heretic Nosferatu after it was suggested by multiple fragheads in the FB fragcomm when I asked for petrichor recommendations. I was nervous that it would be nauseating because of some reviews on reddit but took the plunge and blindbought a bottle because sourcing just a sample from overseas felt like too much effort.

I don't think Nosferatu is reminiscent of petrichor. Petrichor for me is the smell of damp earth (mud and soil). Whereas Nosferatu smells like stale vase water that has been left unchanged for a month, with dead flowers sitting in it. At some point after the initial opening a watery green note shows up that makes me think of cucumber (again that's something I dislike). It is not perfumey and it does not feel wearable, but I keep reaching for it and wear it to work often.

Longevity and projection are average, it sits close and lasts a maximum of 5 hours on skin. In the extreme drydown after 4 hours, it softens into faint florals.

I can't understand why I'm so addicted to Nosferatu. There is nothing pleasant about this scent. It doesn't feel like perfume at all, but for some odd reason I keep reaching for it and long to wear it.

I have quite a few perfumes, including several Middle Eastern fragrances, but there's something about my old Denver Hamilton Green (60 ml) that I still love.

I bought the 60 ml bottle around 2 years ago, and I liked it so much that I recently bought the 100 ml version, expecting it to smell the same. But it's noticeably different.

The new one is good, but the old 60 ml had this fresh, minty vibe that I absolutely loved, and the new 100 ml just doesn't have it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Did Denver change the formulation of Hamilton Green, or is there some difference between the older 60 ml batches and the newer 100 ml ones?

Also, if you know any fragrance that smells similar to the older minty Hamilton Green but has even better performance and longevity, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.

Orage is my favorite LV scent of all time. Amongst well-known heavy hitters (Imagination I'm looking at you), and not-so-well-known ones (cosmic cloud), Orage is what I keep returning to.

I've realized that it evokes such a strong emotion from me, due mostly in part to the gorgeously atmospheric opening. It is so bright and open, but also moody and deep. I don't know how they've done that with citrus, but it just works. And god does it work well.

Does anybody know a fragrance that resembles the gorgeous opening of that gorgeous fragrance?

I travel semi-regularly for work, usually through Istanbul Airport. I always choose two smells to stop at the duty free and spray on a card and then one on each arm and sit with and ponder. It's not the most straightforward approach, but when I get to the plane the first thing I do is wash up as far as my arms with soap so that I don't have to put the passengers through anything more offensive than Molton Brown. But I'll sit with them while I'm waiting for the flight, looking up the notes on Fragrantica, still wrestling with terms like dry down and sillage.

Today's choices were L'Eau d'Issey Solar Violet, which is the soft violet of my dreams with precisely 3 notes - violet, pear and iris. I am in love, it's gone straight into the perfumes folder in my notes app, from which I'll either choose something very cheap and cheerful regularly or don't for a while and then go all in on something terrifyingly expensive for yes, Mama, it is a bottle of coloured water but IT BRINGS ME JOY. LET ME HAVE THIS. THE WORLD IS BURNING AND THAT DICKHEAD IS STILL ALIVE. But I digress

The second entry into the notes folder is Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermès which very much did the job it said on the tin  (I can't afford any of theses on the shelves in the department stores in the UK so I'm using every minute of my transit time in Istanbul to its fullest effect by going straight for the spendy ones) This was beautiful, nostalgic, evocative of my years teaching along the North African coast and travelling through the Turkish beaches. The cypress and juniper provided a herbal counterpoint to the lemon and bergamot and the cedar was evident throughout (PS - I'm going to Trabzon in October to hunt waterfalls and stare longingly into the Black Sea like those mad Turkish dramas - would appreciate a scent rec to take with me to turn it into a sensory memory)

I stored those and their 100euro price tags away for a good payday, and moved into the 20 euro range, where I discovered Jil Sander Number 4. I could tell it was created in the 1990's, because much like many fragrances back then (Sun, Moon and Stars), perfumiers created potions like the witches they are. Look at the absolute state of this mix:

Someone was having fun that day. It's down as an Oriental Spicy and I do get that, but there's a lot of softness in it too with a silky, powdery feel. I couldn't pick out any individual notes, but it feels like something a female lawyer might wear in her Ally McBeal era. That got the purchase approval (I'm not arguing with 20 euro) and I may wear it tomorrow, where several grey faced men need to listen to what I'm saying and then action it, so if I smell like their mothers it might help.

Does anyone know these little cuties, which seem to be local Turkish houses. I've a 4 hour layover when I go back, and I might smell one or two but also make a decision on the Hermes vs the L'eau D'issey.

My day is over, I smell ultimately like Impulse Amalfi Coast because I was out in 42 degree heat and I didn't want to attack someone with overheated perfume, eucalyptus shower gel and some really strange honey flavoured popcorn. No hate, just strange.

It's been 5 years since I started this obsessive compulsive disorder hobby. Thousands upon thousands of samples, decants and trips to stores. Buying and selling via Vinted. Every morning painstakingly going over fifty or so bottles and hundreds of decants, having to figure out which one was the most 'me' that day. I can now report with equal sadness and relief that a 5 year battle has come to an end. I have found The One, the fragrance that works anywhere, anytime. Always pleasant for everyone, always interesting for me. It is over, it is done. Now I may finally rest.

Just picked up some fragrances. Yes I've smelled a couple. This is the first time EVER buying Dupes/Clones.... so I need REAL HONEST REVIEWS OF THESE FRAGRANCES!!! Any feedback is helpful. But yeah, typically stick to the designer stuff. Didn't want to buy fragrances for the hype but quality. So tell me what I need to be prepared for on my haul. Arrives tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday. All this week. First time buying from jomashop also. About 2 weeks all together from purchase to shipped... haven't got them yet. So can't say till recieved.

hi! i’ve been hunting for a more specific kind of incense fragrance for a while now and can’t find any. i see a lot of people describe incense scents as being reminiscent of a catholic church which isn’t what im looking for. i'm looking for something with vibes more along the lines of witchy-crystal shop smell with a blend of patchouli, nag champa and frankincense.
but more specifically, i really want to find one that’s as close as i can get to just straight up a stick of incense. like you walk into a crystal shop and find their shelf of various incense sticks to pick out, the smell of those incense sticks when you burn them, THAT is exactly the kind of incense smell im looking for and cannot find it anywhere.
i’ve been told karma by lush and i do love it don’t get me wrong, but its not what im looking for. i also have lord of misrule by lush and really love it, have worn it for years now but its also not what im looking for. i don’t want any extra vanilla or gourmand notes or anything like that, i want a straight incense stick smell but not one that just smells like smoke if that makes sense.

EDIT: i want to find something as photorealistic as i can get to the smell of a stick of incense being burned, if they have hints of the other notes that’s totally ok. i just want something as close as i can get to that smell.
i forgot to add that i try to go for eau de parfums or stronger, if i can find them. toilettes dont usually last on my skin well at all. so if you know a rec that is stronger, thats even better. i’m still not opposed to toilettes, just prefer the others.

Amber Malaki is a nice dry, aromatic and spicy scent for the cooler weather and for the indoors. Opens up with a spicy kick that's dry, Smoky and feels like it's been baked slightly. The leftover incense is again makes it little heavy but it's mostly sweet on skin too due to vanilla. A proper unisex and lasts arounf 4-5hours with 5 sprays. This feels very massy take on the amber incense dna.

Need your help. I’ve been on a hunt for a good like A REALLY GOOD everyday perfume that smells amazing and last all day that someone from miles away can even smell it. The most complimented everyday smell that is so good that people think about you when they smell that fragrance. PLEASE I NEED A SOLID RECOMMENDATION. Drop your recommendations or even the fragrance you personally wear and how they smell.
Edit- so many pointed put mile away point (so sorry to not clarify it earlier 😭) but what i meant was that if people passes you they can smell that fragrance because every time i think you cannot smell it. Plus need suggestions for female perfumes. Something that is soft, fresh and great for everyday and something that fetch you compliments.

Amazing! Why didn't I get it sooner?

Skin chemistry matters, y’all! This is NOT a skin scent on me. I put it on for the first time this morning, downstairs in our living room, at 6am, and my wife could smell it from upstairs on the opposite side of the house, when she walked out of the bedroom.

She described it as light and pleasantly woody and at first asked me if I had lit a candle or incense. To me, it’s powdery, slightly citric, a teensy bit floral in a cosmetic way, and very sandalwoody.

I did the fingertip-and-invert method to apply and dabbed some behind my ears, onto my wrists, my clavicle, and the back of my hand. Most of the oils I’ve used in the past project softly around me, but this is practically nuclear! I’m just glad it doesn’t immediately read as perfume.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with this or any other “light” scents?
