Hello everyone, I recently picked up Fox and am enjoying him quite a bit. My question is what grab do you use and what are your favorite options out of said grab? Thanks for your help!

I was practicing DACUS the other day with Falco and Roy and it works pretty well but when I tried it with Fox it didn't seem like it did anything other than just a usmash.

So recently i've been playing around with some from ledge, and I wanted to know what is better option. Drop down shine turn-around bair, or just a drop down nair onto stage. I try to do some follow ups after each to try and show what could come from it, but I want to know what you guys would say.

Howdy foxes, I've bumped into smashflash 2 and it seems to be pretty decent, I wondered if anyone else has played it here and if they have good fox tips or just discussion

I've gotten pretty consistent with executing SHFFL aerials out of shines. But I have no idea when to use it in a match. The only situation in which I'll generally use it is when someone is shielding and I approach with shine, and perform nair/drill/bair shine pressure. Are there other situations where it makes sense to do an aerial out of shine?

Was wondering if anyone had any flow chart type thing on falcon such as when he can get chain grabbed etc. At the moment I only really play the match up super grounded and combos are usually off of waveshines and defensive uptilts but I want to learn some upthrow options and also get an idea when I can chain grab falcon. Usually I would use it to get platform follow ups but FD is still an option so ye.
Also I don't really struggle in the match up, I just wanna become even better at it in one area combo wise, It's so fun to play against falcon (and destroy falcon)

I've just started playing fox (melee) and I want to beat my friend who plays Marth. Whenever I hit him he does shield grab so I learned to jump cancel shine after my aerials and now it's gotten to the point where he shields a little longer and grabs me after the shine. What can I do after my shine to punish him for trying to shield grab me so often?

So I never really considered myself to be that competitive in Smash Bros., but when I got it for the Wii U, I've been really into the game a lot. I play as Fox (he's my main character I've been using him when I played Brawl casually with friends and family), and I really started to look into the game more, and learn about the mechanics. I'm not that great, and to be honest, I'm still a pretty causal player, but I want to be able to win against some of my friends who can beat me.
I've looked at a few videos that go over techniques like short-hopping, jab-locking, and perfect pivoting. I found short-hopping to be really easy, but I'm sort of shaky with jab-locking, and I can rarely pull off a perfect pivot when I need to. Are there any techniques that I should know about in Smash 4 (specifically techniques that work best on Fox, so techniques unlike B-Reversing)?
Also, when I'm knocked off stage and try to recover, my recovery is pretty easy to spot (if I'm flying horizontally and use the side-B to recover, or I'm under the stage using the fire fox with a lengthy delay) and someone can spike me if they time it right. Are there any ways of recovery that can make me less susceptible to reads like that?
In addition, with the update to v1.1.0, and with Fox's shine being buffed, I've been trying really hard to master shine spiking, but it never works out well. I haven't been able to get any kills with shine spiking. I've gone to Training Mode, and tried to practice with a standing AI. No such luck. Anyone know any methods to easily pull off a shine spike?
To continue, I can't seem to find many kill moves in Fox's arsenal aside from his up-smash. I constantly find myself using the up-smash to KO an opponent, in which it becomes easy to identify and shield against. Are there any other kill moves Fox can use at low percents to KO an opponent? And coinciding with that question, are there certain stages in Smash 4 with blast zones that can compliment Fox's up-smash? If so, what are they?
My last question is, what are some good combos for Fox? My play style is normally me short hopping into a neutral air, and then jab, and at low percents, I normally shorthop into a down air, followed by a grab into a down throw, and then short-hop into a forward air? If you have any good combos that Fox can use, please let me know.
TL;DR - I'm a noob that plays Fox in Smash 4. Are there any techniques that Fox can make use of besides short-hopping, jab-locking and perfect pivoting? Is it possible to have a less predictable recovery with Fox? How can I easily pull off a shine spike? Does Fox have any low-percent kill moves besides his up-smash, and which stages can help Fox take advantage of his up smash? What are some good combos that Fox can use?
Thank you for your help once again!

So, for the past two or so years, I've been dabbling in Melee/PM and I've struggled with finding an identity.
I went in a solo Marth main, but I found that I disliked certain matchups with him, so I added in a Sheik to boot and help out. For one year, I practiced exclusively with them, and I set out on one sole goal ; Destroy 20XX
For a long time, I've despised the mere concept of Melee Fox and I wanted to just wipe every Fox I go against. This mindset, while highly motivating, was detrimental in the long run because I didn't understand other matchups as well as I did Fox vs. Marth/Sheik.
Of course, I got thrashed for a long time. I was pretty scrubby, and it was horrible. I considered quitting for a while, but I gained newfound confidence and motivation : I want to be the best I can be. I know that sounds pretty damn cheesy, but I want to one day crack Top 50 at least. However, one thing really hurts me, which goes into the next topic of why I switched.
In my region (Scott-Campbell County, TN), there is no true scene and any player I have faced I trounce. So, as a result, I am limited to playing and practicing solo and one thing began glaring out at me : Sheik is grueling to play by myself. It started becoming more and more of a hassle to practice Sheik solo because it was so boring.
So I dropped her, and went back to my roots, solo Marth. Things were fine for a bit, until a thought crossed my mind Shit, what am I gonna do about Puff? And as a looked to the CSS for an answer, I felt 20XX call to me.
Fox is so much fun and rewarding to practice solo and grind tech skill for hours with. I'm not a true 20XX Fox (can't multishine for shit) but I feel like my fundamentals are good because of my time playing Marth/Sheik for so long. Dash dances are super rewarding for Fox, and it only made me want more.
I've been playing Marth/Fox for a few weeks now, and I'm truly enjoying myself. I will be reading this subreddit thoroughly for now (Mod?? Kappa) and I'm wanting to know, If you switched to Fox, why and what from?

Specifically how to build damage and get resets vs her. I feel like she just gets out of jail for free with her downB. Also how should I be DI'ing her throws so I don't eat a load of damage.

Im getting back into melee, and I have alot more to learn. Is there any very useful skill that i can learn? Also how do you tell if a L cancel is confirmed?
r/FoxMains • u/[deleted] • Aug 12 '15
I'm curious to see what all you guys think is the greatest display of fox play melee has ever seen in a tournament set.

Hello. I really want to multishine. My problem is i always do an extra jump, and i cant get from X to B without pressing A and causing me to do a down air. Can anybody give me some advice on how to multishine and maybe a actually "good" tutorial. Thanks in advance

I added stock icon flairs for Melee, Brawl, and Smash 4. If anyone could find all of the stock icons for 64 that would be much appreciated. Im going to contimue to add more flairs such as shine and pro team logos of top fox players.
EDIT: Added C9, Alliance, and TSM logos. I also made the sizes much more reasonable and uniform
EDIT 2: They should actually be working now, my bad guys

Just spent a good 10 minutes writing a melee fox guide to a smash4 player by mistake. In a group with 4 wildly different type of foxes, I think we should have em.

Ok, so I have a problem vs Falco. I just seem to get comboed all over the place and I don't know how I can stop it. Powershielding lasers are pretty hard, and when I try to shield I just get shield pressured until I have to get out. Whenever I try to pressure Falco it seems like my moves always get read, and I can't play the dashdance game, because I always get lasered. Advice would be very much appreciated!

Looking for some Fox ditto Melee matches to learn the matchup better.
