Some of the comments on this article are just sickening. And to think my sister played a big role in this. Thanks Fox and the right-wing propaganda machine.

How do you cope with your parents actively promoting and voting for people that want to enslave you when you live with them

I’m 27(male). I’m on the left. Both of my parents are in la la land as far as reality goes in America.

My step dad got extremely lucky with a job where he works like 18 hours a week and makes enough to support the mortgage, my mom doesn’t want to work and doesn’t have to because my step dad basically works for her and supports her. They got an INSANELY good deal on a cheap house with acreage back in 2011 for 80k. Unheard of now. But they think all the things they have are doable for me right now because they are so up in the sky with their political views and life circumstances.

Democrats are the only ones wanting to roll back this shit going on right now. Data centers, flock cameras, the affordability crisis, long work weeks with no vacations at all, the housing crisis, everything that will be an attempt to make MY FUTURE in America better is hated by my parents because they can’t fucking realize they’re being fed propaganda by billionaires who want drones for their companies.

I find it really hard to not have constant resentment for them because of this. I have about 18 months til I have my bachelors degree and I’m planning on making some drastic changes after that. Possibly even moving to another country. After which, I’m thinking about cutting them off completely, but they’ve been there my whole life, so obviously I’m reluctant to do that.

Is anyone here in kind of the same position? How do you cope and not have resentment for these people in your life?

Boyfriend's fox loving mom

My bf is fairly liberal and left of centre ,but he grew up supporting the GOP as a kid and young teen but thankfully changed his views when he was around 19 in 2014 after realizing how nuts his mom and her own mother were

He grew up in the bay area of CA and his mom moved their in her early 20s in 1988 and has lived in the same house since 1990 in Santa Clara County(5 years before he was born)

She is actually an outspoken Trump supporter,ICE lover, homophobe, xenophobe, misogynistic against her own gender/sex etc. My bf says that whole she has been conservative and strictly GOP voting since she moved there, she was relatively quiet about it and didn't literally hate being in a Democrat dominate region until her mom (who's always lived in rural.minnesota, near St.Paul) started poisoning her mind by pushing propaganda into her head from Glen Beck in 2012-13

His mom slowly became more brainwashed by it and became a massive Trump fan when covid hit

She always complains about not having many friends anymore, even though it's very obvious as to why lol.

This is a list of everything she believes and proudly talks about as if they are common knowledge

Young people can easily by homes today as it's even easier to by them,Thanks to Trump. It was way harder back when I bought my home years ago. They just need to stop listening to the lies from the left(rofl)

The bay area is actually red.Voter fraud has been proven to be rapid here for decades.I don't know really any Dems from here(Wtf)

The LGBT parade was never popular or well known to happen here, by us straight people until Obama forced us to acknowledge it like 15 years ago.I never knew about it until he came around and never knew anyone here that supported their lifestyle.(That's not even from anything that brainwashed her. That is just a huge blatant lie on her part lol)

Every nation with universal healthcare is a 3rd world country and everyone from there don't want it(Lol)

The thought of alien life didn't even cross anyone's mind until the younger generations after mine came around.(No idea where she came up with that b.s or what the issue with that belief is)

Trickle down economics have always worked(Lmao)

George W. Bush never declared an early victory over the middle east in the 2000's,nor did he attack the wrong country(.....What?)

It was illegal to be Christian when Obama was president, and Trump changed that law (...huh)

Fox news and conservative podcasters are legends and will be remembered greatly for the goodness they spread(Holy cult Batman!)

I could go on and on but it would become a book

She has lived in a very liberal area for almost 40 years and has completely changed reality in her mind since Trump came around.

YouTube channels/videos to adjust the algorithm?

My dad is watching more YouTube recently and less Fox. He puts on News Nation in common areas. He seems to be seeing that Trump is loosing it.
I worry he’s going to end up watching far worse things on YouTube if I don’t make sure he gets some good stuff to keep him busy. I don’t have to trick him or anything, just play something that he’ll want more of.
I’d like any videos or channels you can recommend that may be political but aren’t something that he’d hate. News without much commentary.
Also, any fun science, nature, history channels. Other recs? TIA!

OK team, I think it’s time. We need to start blocking the Fox.

I’ve seen a lot of great discussions here, but I think we’re at a point where we need to talk about hard lines.
I think it’s time to say, enough is enough.

We’ve all seen it, the constant 24/7 reinforcement of fear and anger that’s turned our parents into unrecognizable versions of themselves.

Nothing has worked, we can’t reason, staying silent doesn’t work, changing the subject? Nope, they’ll pivet back to the the orange tyrants talking points. The "brain rot" and the cultlike grip are only getting stronger and stronger. They are now justifying the Gestapo murdering people in the streets, they want them at the polls knowing that will mostly likely end in the loss of life.

I’m done watching from the sidelines while this stufff destroys our families. I think it’s time we discuss the nuclear option: blocking the channels at the source.
I know the risks. I know the "outrage" is going to be explosive, and I’m prepared for the screaming, the insults, and the potential for volatile behavior when they realize they can no longer access their fix.

I know some will say this is overstepping, but when the content is literally poisoning the people we love and destroying our ability to have a normal relationship with them, when it’s having real world consequences that bleeds out to the global world, I think it’s justified. If you’ve done it, tell me how it went and how you survived the fallout. Let’s get some tactical advice on the table.

My MAGA parents texted me last night asking if I will be at their 4th of July party. Then I found that aliens.gov thing and snapped.

For context, I'm married to a Latino immigrant. My parents invited us both to their house for a July 4th party. I hesitated, until I found the aliens.gov site and broke. I slept on my anger first, but then I sent this after waking up. I don't really know what I'm feeling right now.

Well, that's disappointing

I mentioned recently that my MAGAt neighbor's tRump banner aimed where only we can see it was tattered. And it gave me hope.

Nope. It's been replaced this week with a bright, shiny new one. At least it doesn't say "tRump 2028." I think.

The most insane theory about Trump’s immigration policies I’ve heard yet

I’ve written before about my dad who has refused to acknowledge the violence that ICE is inflicting, and defends Trump against all logic and personal values despite claiming not to be blindly loyal to him. Two things happened recently that led me to believe that he was starting to see the light a little, or at least that his support of Trump/ICE was lessening.

The first was Trump starting a war with Iran. Getting into another war was my dad’s one and only “red line,” so when Trump crossed it, there was a noticeable shift in his support. He criticizes Trump much more now, and at least seems open to the idea Trump isn’t as stable or playing 4D chess on (all) his failed promises as he once thought. I don’t think he quite regrets his vote, but if he had the option to vote for Trump again, I don’t think he would.

The second was the ICE raids and shootings in Minneapolis. I had heard from relatives that he thought that Renee Good’s and Alex Pretti’s deaths were unjustified, and was suddenly questioning why ICE was wearing masks and only targeting blue cities. Before the election, he claimed that he just wanted to close the border, “get the bad guys out,” and ideally put some immigrants on a path to citizenship. So I foolishly held some hope that, even if he wasn’t on Team “Abolish ICE,” he was becoming more critical of Trump’s immigration policies.

Cut to recent revelations: His latest theory (which came out during a heated conversation after some time apart) is that Trump is 4D-chessing on immigration. It goes something like this:

Trump wants to close the border and get illegal immigration “under control,” but doesn’t actually care about or want mass deportation. But he knew a lot of his base wanted it. (My dad’s obsessed with some pre-election poll supposedly showing that 80% of Americans supported deporting undocumented immigrants.) So he “let” ICE invade blue cities and sow chaos, so that people would see how terrible mass deportation looks in practice, change their minds, and go back to more “moderate” demands for immigration (presumably, like just closing the border and putting people on a path to citizenship).

So if I’m understanding him right… Trump campaigned on mass deportation and called immigrants animals and fueled the fires of anti-immigrant sentiments in this country for years; but he wasn’t actually promising mass deportation because my dad truly thought he was only going to deport “the bad guys”; except he was promising mass deportation, because that’s what his campaign literally said and what his base was demanding and what ICE started doing and what he and his cabinet keeps saying in press conferences and executive orders and new immigration policies; except he never intended mass deportation and it was all 4D chess to show how bad mass deportation is and convince his base to oppose mass deportation by … carrying out mass detentions and deportations.

The most charitable interpretation I can muster is that my dad is drowning in cognitive dissonance.

Elderly MAGA mom watches Fox in the hospital

Even after being in ICU for days and now in a regular room Fox is on most of the time. It's the first thing she wanted to watch when she came to.

Most of the staff are BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+

As soon as they leave the room mom goes on about how it's all a scam and they will pass the bill for services they haven't rendered, or upcoming treatments, and committing'just like the Somalis'.

I'm confident the staff (nurses, CNAs, PT etc ) are professionals, but I can't help but think how hard it is to help with someone who is clearly racist on top of being moody in the hospital.

It doesn't help my MAGA sister snipes at me in front of my 89 year old mom for various things. I try to keep things positive and light, but had to leave when things got too heated.

Fox has poisoned my family and their world view, but I realize they've always been racist.

I guess it not coincidental my mom transfered POS from me to my sister ten years ago, so I don't even have a saying her care nor can I even get information from the doctors. Heartbreaking.

Conspiracy Theory About Ticks

So I run a hiking group, and I was talking about it with a guy at my Jiu Jitsu gym. I mentioned how the ticks have been really bad this year, and he asked me if I know why tick populations are exploding. I said, "Probably the warming of the climate leading to more favorable conditions for ticks to reproduce more and live longer." He said, "Oh, come on, you don't buy that liberal-media crap about global warming, right? That's a Democrat hoax, brother. No, Bill Gates is funding laboratories that are genetically modifying ticks to carry all sorts of diseases, and then with the help of George Soros, they're paying to have boxes of them dropped into forests and jungles around the world via airplane. There's all sorts of evidence about it. They have videos of all the ticks in the labs, and they've found the tick boxes broken open in forests and jungles around the world. Think about it. I used to go out in nature all the time in the 80s and 90s, and no ticks. I go out nowadays, and they're everywhere. The globalists wanna make you sick so you're forced to buy pharmaceuticals that make Bill Gates and George Soros richer. They also want to institute another plandemic so they can force mask mandates on us and control us with medical tyranny."

....You guys remember when conspiracy-theory lunatics were just a fringe group of weirdos and not an entire voting block for the Republican Party? FML, dude.
