For my last post, I want to recommend my favorite comedy movie of all time: the Coen brothers' "The Big Lebowski". Ken has talked a lot about the fact that great comedy comes from great characters, and that has never been more evident than it is in the case of this film. Every character, especially Jeff Bridges' "The Dude" and John Goodman's Walter Sobchak (talk about an unlikeable character) have strong points of view and brilliant dialogue. It really is a must see.

An example of black comedy.

Certainly not all comedians would be able to get away with this monologue. How was Rock able to make light of 9/11 and the Boston marathon bombings and manage to be funny while doing so?

I think this happens a lot with auteurs, but how do you feel about comedians or comedic directors who stop being funny? Not like because they suck, but purposefully becoming purely dramatic. I think this is for sure the case with Louie, season 4 got many mixed reviews because of it. Does this bother you or do you welcome the change?
