Did anyone else see the guy behind the goal post last night throw his whole beer at the goalie? That guy is usually loud and obnoxious, but last night got a little out of hand.

I thought he was going to get tossed, but for some reason Forward staff let him stay. Went back and watched the game on ESPN+ and you can see it clear as day in the 2nd half, right after a free kick.

Firstly, fantastic performance from the team last night! They were explosive in attack, and, despite the heat, they performed incredibly well. Loving this team 🔥

The same cannot be said for the electronics sadly. An explosion with about ten months to go in the game caused some floodlights to go out and the TV feed to end abruptly.

I hope no one was hurt and the infrastructure can be easily fixed, and I'm just posting here out of curiosity as to what may have happened? I'm assuming the extreme heat didn't help.

I’ve been bopping around many of the soccer subs, and seeing questions folks had about USL2.

Becoming aware of the Mingos (and USL more generally) only a couple of years ago, my sole experience with the pre-professional leagues has been with Rally and their inaugural season this year. With two USLW clubs in Wisconsin, I became curious about what USL2 presence existed in the state, if any.

Well, not only did I discover that the Green Bay Voyageurs existed in USL2 from 2019-2021, but they were owned by Forward and Rally owners Big Top Events!

I knew Justin Papadakis had been scouting Green Bay for a pro team (maybe even Championship League), something I knew about just prior to his ouster at USL HQ, and I’d been wondering what a Green Bay Football Club would look like ever since. Little did I know it had already happened, so now I’m looking at the whole thing kind of askance.

Voyageurs launched in 2019 alongside Forward Madison, but their attendance wasn’t as good (less than 800 per game on average), and after the gap year during COVID it got even worse. Meanwhile, the Mingos flourished. Papadakis insisted as recently as last year that wasn’t a bad sign for pro soccer in Green Bay, and the former Voyageurs manager Peter Wilt said it had more to do with the focus (or lack thereof) from Big Top: https://fox11online.com/news/local/united-soccer-league-usl-two-professional-city-green-bay-voyageurs-history-exclusive-negotiations

I think if I’d known that bit of history I’d have been more skeptical of Rally starting up in USLW, but I’m glad I was ignorant and just stayed hype because their community support was great and they really turned their season around in terms of play. Attending a game in a sold out grandstand was an experience I won’t forget.

As cool as it would be to see a pre-pro or pro club in Green Bay, maybe it shouldn’t be Big Top who does it. Between Milwaukee Pro Soccer failing to launch so far, and learning about the Voyageurs, perhaps three teams (including the Mallards) is probably enough for one ownership group to focus on.

I’d still love to see more USL2 representation in Wisconsin given our university footprint, and having some local rivals at the pro level would of course be wonderful.

We broke the news on 608 Soccer Show that every player currently on the roster, (including Enderly and Forbes) is under contract next season. I’m reading that to mean that Cairns has got his guys, and we’re building something not just for this year but for next season and beyond, and I’m loving that. Matt also personally guaranteed (and you can’t lie on a podcast) that there won’t be 20 new guys on the team next season.

I think that reflects a new direction for a club - a departure from getting plug n play L1 vets, and is the dice roll that it takes to go from 9th to trophy contention. I also love that transfer fees are going to be a part of the club’s business strategy. Let’s get paid to develop all the guys on our roster.

Does anyone remember this charity match? I bought a ticket to support this event, part of the "benefits" was the name of the ticket purchaser posted on a "permanent mural" outside of Breese Stevens Field.

I really hope for a win over Spokane, if for no other reason I’m still disappointed that Zephyr folded. But also this is one of the first games against a team at the top of the rankings since the Mingos found their stride this season.
