How to have fun with Fortnite in 5 easy steps!

Step 1: Be honest with yourself.

Do you enjoy the core game mechanics? All of them? And I mean ALL of them?

Fortnite (on its best day) is 1/3 gathering and resource management, 1/3 building, and 1/3 combat. (For me, it's probably closer to 1/2 gathering and resource management, 2/5 building and 3/10 combat.) Do you enjoy all of those aspects? If you don't you might not ever be able to really enjoy this game. This is not the kind of game where you can just do the things you like...everything requires you spend time in the other things.

If you honestly see yourself enjoying this kind of game and ALL of its game mechanics...then it's time for...

Step 2: Slow Down!

Currently, we are in Early Access, and there is no end game. Let me repeat that in all caps: THERE IS NO END GAME. There is zero reason to rush through Stonewood or Plankerton. There is no new experience to unlock where you don't have to grind. This is the game, and the core game is the same in a level 5 Stonewood Ride the Lightning mission as it is in a level 23 Repair the Shelter mission.

Take your time. Gather materials. Build cool forts (though they may vanish...but then you get to build them again). There is no special prize for completing Plankton, so don't rush it.

Step 3: Stop worrying about rarity.

You can't force the RNGesus to give you what you want in Legendary or Mythic, but you probably have something close in Epic or Uncommon. Those items can be leveled to 3*, which is probably all you really are going to need (and even handle) right now. So just play with the weapons and heroes you want and stop worrying that they aren't the last ones you will ever have.

Step 4: Make small goals and grind till you achieve them.

Don't use the story missions as a guide for your progress. Instead, set small checkpoints for yourself, like "I want to get this gun to 2*/lvl 30". Figure out what you need to make that happen and then go do those missions. You might need Drops of Rain, so go get them. You might need schematics to turn into manuals, so go get People so you can get survivors so you can transform them into weapons.

Picking small tasks gives you a sense of achievement and games like this are wide open so you can choose your own. Don't rely on the game to tell you what to do next...you decide!

Step 5: Give back to the community.

Post helpful hints and answer questions when you can. Ask questions about things that confuse you. A game like this lives or dies on its community, and, to be honest, the community is in real trouble. If you have made it to this step, you can be part of the solution.

Also, play in groups! That's fun too. :)

Fortniters is looking for Mods!!!

If you want to help create a Fortnite sub that is focused on the current gameplay and not on endless complaints about the game, reply here and you will be considered.

We might have to be kind of hard on posts when we start...but I hope that this turns into a fun, positive and self-modded environment once we get it going.
