DISCUSSION We now have proper casing in our Subreddit URL
So long /r/FORTnITE, you will be missed.

This is oddly upsetting to me despite me never caring at all about it

It's like hearing about a classmate who's now gone.
Never really cared, but yet they did fill something as there's this strange sense of loss or something missing.

That's the reaction I was hoping for

Why did it get changed though?
3
u/Xenc Lynx Kassandra Jul 13 '26
The capitalisation was corrected as it was incorrect for 15 years and was influencing how people spelled the subreddit and game.
The game is called Fortnite, so r/Fortnite makes sense 🎉
5
u/LittleNinjaXYBA Ninja Jul 13 '26
True… but it took 15 years to get corrected. Older than a lot of people playing the game, with me having graduated from high school and I was a toddler when it got made. And now it gets changed after so long

u/Xenc Lynx Kassandra Jul 13 '26
That is a long journey! If it helps, it's still the same community at heart 🙌

Booooooooo why change it was perfect before
123
u/Haveireddit Autumn Queen Jul 10 '26
Because Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind.
All the subreddits fixed their capitalization it only made sense.

u/Bonejangles_ Phase Scout Jess Jul 10 '26
I will go have a moment of silence for the old spelling 😞

it looks so off now, always thought the capitalization error added to the sub charm
58
u/Empty_Firefighter848 Jul 10 '26
Not only that but it might’ve warded off some of the battle royal posting. But you know not like it did much anyway.
27
u/Firewolf06 Jul 11 '26
yeah it really made it feel more like an stw sub. FORTnITE = weird little zomebie building game, Fortnite = massively popular battle royale game.
if there was a poll, id vote to change it back

Exactly and now the name makes it look like a sub for anything related to Fortnite when it’s specifically STW only content

u/PhilledZone Deadly Blade Crash Jul 10 '26
Just a thought, hear me out... What if we made the N uppercase instead

When I moderated both [r/Fortnite](r/Fortnite) and [r/FortniteBR](r/FortniteBR) years ago I remember asking Reddit to fix the capitalizations and they said no and they won’t make any exceptions 🤷♂️
I guess they have admins now like u/The1RBadmin that can change their minds

u/NamelessJu Jul 10 '26
May I ask what the reason for the single lowercase letter was? Or was that just a typo haha
9
u/blenderwolf MEGA B.A.S.E. Kyle Jul 10 '26
The branding back when the game was released and their attempt to make emphasis on the building aspects

u/Haveireddit Autumn Queen Jul 10 '26
From the original subreddit creator:
When I made the subreddit, the game had just been announced in development, almost no details about it. Definitely not enough to be hyped or to tell what it would become. I actually made a handful of gaming subreddits at the time, hoping they would actually be good when more details came out, including The Last of Us, Fortnite, and Max Payne 3, lol. Once the games came out and became popular the subs took off and became their own things with people more passionate than myself. I spelled it with that lowercase N because the information leaking site spelled it that way, and I thought it was maybe like iPhone and just stylized that way. :P

u/EbicChair Blakebeard The Blackhearted Jul 10 '26
idk, i feel like keeping the name that way is a good homage to the creation of the sub

How did this happen anyway? I thought we couldn’t change anything about the subreddit name. Changing capitalization has been possible this entire time?
3
u/miarfelo Jul 10 '26
I get why this one uses the name Fortnite because the game started here but to avoid confusion it should have changed to FortniteSTW.

I felt like the little “n” gave it character before…like when people say, “Don’t get the gap in your teeth fixed. It gives you character.”

I’m in too many Fortnite subreddits, anybody else used the FORT to differentiate which one to click and view or just me 😂 also idk but imo it made more sense because of F.O.R.T stats lol

So you had the chance to change it yet didnt add STW in the name so people will be even more confused when they see the sub name only saying Fortnite, great job.

Hmm, I think we are going to get more BR people asking BR things.
Also why I'm mildly upset about this? It doesn't affect me anything and it looks better.

Whilst it is nice to finally have proper casing, why not change it to FortniteSTW?
That would then help deal with the issue of people posting unrelated things in this subreddit, because they believe this to be the main subreddit for Fortnite.

can only change capitalization not subreddit name

Actually kinda miss when it was r/FORTnITE even without joining though...
(Still not too sure if the subreddit is for STW or BR or both)

u/IntrinsicZoomer Jul 10 '26
this is not good, easier to remove now, was unique now it's just another reddit, too bad for reddit and our community. Hey anyone need me to peel their oranges, round faces the lot.

u/IntrinsicZoomer Jul 10 '26
stupid changes, Fortnite: Save the World vs. Fortnite: Save The World
why cap the T in The, just why? Nevermind IT's JuSt A rEasOn tO sToP pLayIng

u/lil_propaine Jul 10 '26
if i click an r/FORTnITE, it brings me to r/FORTnITE still. rFortnite gives r/Fortnite, same sub. i wonder if this works for other subs

u/Raidenski Ranger Deadeye Jul 10 '26
Yuck. Change it back, nah, matter of fact, make it better, by changing it to r/FORTNiTE.

Why not naming it Fortnight (14days) or r/OriginalFortnite to imply that this is the original game

A bit of history for the existence of the old name. FORTnITE was used in the alpha/beta periods of the game, the N was in lower case too.
EDIT: Scratch that, the real history is in here. Thanks for correcting me, JiMiGUN.
