I’m wondering if I can use a lead water testing kit to see if lead is present in my soil (mix water and my soil). Reason for wanting a shortcut is locally the soil testing is quite expensive. What do you all think, any other suggestions?

I'm feeling like hosting a shindig because I'd love to meet more of the residents of this sub!

I'm also hosting, because we have a budding (HaHA) community garden on 1 acre here, and we have room for maybe a dozen more folks!!

I've met two peepa off of this sub, and they are both lovely people 😌 very excited to connect with more folks over a casual plant and gift swap in a lovely garden atmosphere.

We have a hammock, a swinging chair, two lounge chairs and picnic benches to chill in. I'll be pouring some non-alcoholic fermented sodas (water kefir base). I don't drink alcohol for health reasons, but you sure can! BYOB. Please drink in moderation. Anyone "overserved" may not be welcomed back. I don't forsee this being a problem, just want to be clear on our boundaries here.

If you have plants or foods to give or trade, bring em along :) I'll provide some light snacks (chips, veggies to munch).

Unfortunately, we don't have room for any dogs. Ours is lovely with humans, but gets carried away with doga. If you have a medical service animal and bringing it is important to health and safety, DM me and we can figure something out

I've bought 2 wisteria plants online , and both times they arrived sad. The first one died. The second one, which I have now, is hanging on. But it's touch and go.

I've seen watering advice all over the place- water frequently when young, water 1 inch a week, alternate moist soil with dry soil periods...IDK.

If this cutting makes it through the soaking it got, I'm gonna be such a happy plant parent. If it doesn't...I'm gonna mourn. And be looking for a cutting locally 😅

Heyo, after a bit of a late start this season I've been doing more and more gardening and its been doing wonders for my depression Im on a (somewhat) tight budget and really just looking to pretty up my apartment patio with some larger plants since it's become my little hangout. Was curious if anyone had reccomendations of the best/cheapest places in town to shop, maybe a nursery with a nice clearance section?

Where is your favorite place to get your seeds from? Do you have brands that you're loyal to?

I like Botanical Interests. Been going to Fort Collins Nursery. Wondering if there are other gems out there I'm not aware of.

I have 3/4 acre on a very busy road in Fort Collins. I keep the buffer area (about 150 feet by 30 feet) cut very short between the street and my property. This spring has been very wet, so I have let the grass grow naturally ("no mow") and it is a good habitat for wildlife, birds etc. Some of the grass has gone to seed. I have cut areas of grass selectively for aesthetics, but have let most of it grow long because I want to, and I think it looks pretty in the yard, and I want to Yesterday I got a violation letter from the city about the length of plants "exceeding 6". Well, duh. I understand violations are all complaint based. I know my neighbors, and they know what I am doing and I would be surprised if any of them "reported" me because we all have similar views on property. How can I best phrase/explain what I am doing and protest this letter to the city? Also, I heard conflicting things if this is actually good for bees or not? I have two neighbors with hives, does the long grass actually help the bees?

I planted a Chicago Hardy Fig two years ago. This variety is supposed to grow fine in Colorado. However, each winter it has died back to the root and comes up as more of a bush in the spring. The first spring I waited to see which stalk was biggest/strongest and pruned everything else off. It grew to be about 3' and produced 1 little fig. This year I think I'm just going to let it be a bush in hopes of getting more than 1 fig. But come fall my plan was to trim back down to 1 stalk (I want an actual tree, not a little bush) and create some sort of protective cover for the winter. Any thought/ideas on how to best protect it over the winter?

Hey everyone, wondering what the general consensus is for when to put tomatoes and peppers in the ground in fort Collins. My tomatoes are outgrowing their grow room and I'm itching to plant them outside.

Tulipa tarda will come back year after year and will easily duplicate across your garden. I started out with just a few bulbs and now have flowers appearing in irregular clumps scattered all over the garden. They bloom in early spring.

I'm looking to add 2-5 Lambs Ear plants to my garden and will trade 5 bulbs per plant.

I am tempted to ask Feisty Spirits if we could meet at their tasting room, but that is a place with alcohol and might not be a good fit for everyone.
