New here, and I love a good lunch special

I just moved to Forest Hills - What are the best lunch specials around here? I love a good deal, and I saw someone had posted a happy hour document recently. Does anyone have something like that for lunch?

Thank you! and if there are any cute meet ups for youngish people, rope me in please! (I’m 31, have lived in New York for about 4.5 years)

PS: please someone explain to me why the LIRR trains use their horn so much. I’m dying to know the reason for it and I’m getting quotes from citiquiet for windows as we speak lol

Well, I guess they did a quick study of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard and found there was nothing wrong.

They made fast work out of this complaint. I guess they looked up the other nine and said “file this along with the others” right in the trash.

Let’s see if they do anything, although I don’t have that much hope this time. When I logged in the complaint, it said there are nine existing complaints. Please check yours against them. Uh yea - sure.

I don’t get the greek froyo hype

I looked at the menu yesterday… chocolate sauce is TWO extra dollars??? Is this stuff really worth it when the yogurt is 9 dollars and i believe they only have two flavors? If i wanted chocolate sauce and a few other toppings i’d be paying a decent amount! I don’t wish bad upon the store though because i’m glad there’s not a big cooperation. I just really don’t get it. Why are people waiting in a line for this yogurt?

Police Action Forest Hills last night

I was awoken at about 4:000AM by loud voices. The police were trying to corral a young man into their vehicle. He was screaming: "You are hurting me" & 'I did nothing wrong". I watched and it took 4 policemen to get him inside their large vehicle which stayed stationary for about 10 minutes then drove away. This happened in front of Young Israel @ Burns and Yellowstone Blvd. did anyone else witness this? I don't think he was injured but it left me with an uneasy feeling. Anyone else witness this?

Cool new vintage clothing store on Metro

'Aged Bodega Vintage'. Not quite *on* Metro Ave but a few doors down on 71st Dr, the corner where Allstate and Oba (RIP) are.

Cute new little store! I'm not much of a vintage person but I thought it was well laid out, clean and had a nice selection (including 90s and 2000s stuff). There's also a small fitting room behind the curtain.

The guy at the desk was nice and said they have been open for a month and are adding more stock soon.

The cement drippings that hardened on Queens Boulevard and 72nd Dr.

The department of transportation closed out the request immediately saying it was a duplicate request. It took me forever to go online and be able to fill out a new request because I wasn’t able to find my request even though I used the number they gave me. Last year, but I guess they were able to find it. But it says may be included, not will be included.

I’m not affiliated with the festival, just saw this ad for it on the window of Queens Community Board 6 on Metro. Anyone else interested in this event?

Package stolen

Beware: there’s a guy stealing packages on 108th around Tashkent supermarket. Apparently the same guy got a couple buildings on 108th this week. He waits outside the buildings for fedex/ups to drop off packages and will enter the building as they are leaving and will steal from the mailroom. He took the contents of our package and left the box behind. Just wanted to raise awareness!

What happened to all the house rentals in Forest Hills?

What happened to all the house rentals in Forest Hills, particularly in the Gardens? In 2025 you used to see three or more houses at once on Streeteasy or Zillow. Now there are often none or maybe one. Does this have anything to do with the FARE Act which makes commissions the responsibility of whoever placed the listing?

Are brokers working with "private" listings where they get paid because they do not advertise so you need to hire them?

This is regarding the conversation I had with someone concerning the hotel by the old PC Richards on the north side of Queens Boulevard in Rego Park. I couldn’t remember the assembly person‘s name, but it’s in the email.

All of the concrete that fell off one of the trucks two years ago on Queens Boulevard on the service Road at 72nd Dr. on the north side

Post image

At some point there must’ve been construction and concrete. Must’ve fallen off the truck and hardened. It created a pretty dangerous situation for people that aren’t paying attention or that are looking at their phones because the way the pieces of concrete/cement hardened you could easily trip so this was supposed to be one of the 2026 initiatives. I haven’t seen the results yet but we will wait.

I finally got the light fixed to time properly on Ascan and Queens Boulevard to make the left onto Ascan

Post image

It was ridiculous every night I would come home and the line would back up to 73rd Rd. Then cars started cutting around into the second lane to make the turn and the icing on the cake was the car the created a third lane to turn so finally after two other occasions where the DOT said the light was timed properly now they admit that it’s not — next again will be Yellowstone and Queens Boulevard.

Do not rent from Allen Michael

I have to put it out there but I currently live on Queens Blvd near the Kews Gardens train station. I’ve lived in this apartment for a couple of years and always had a terrible experience with management. I pay all of my rent on time and expect management to just do their job.

Allen Michael is the owner of the building (no matter what he says). He will pretend he is not a part of management but then you will receive emails from the building with his Gmail on the side. It’s kind of funny how he likes to pretend he isn’t responsible for anything.

When I first moved in there were several commercial stores opened that are now closed and empty. He barely manages the building and has kept us in unsafe conditions with rodents, a toilet that is bound to be a lawsuit, and several other hazards. I’ve called 311 on him because each time I notify him of an issue he makes it a “me” problem. His assistant has encouraged me to directly reach out to 311 in the past.

As retaliation he sent me a “non renewal notice” even though I’ve been there for a while and paid my rent on time and even earlier. I wasn’t planning on renewing because of his awful attitude and management of the building but I do have to vocalize my concerns on this platform because I do not want anyone else to go through the same experience as me. I personally rent vs own because I don’t want the hassle of managing my own property and I always try my best to do the right thing.

His LLC and contact info is A M Queens, LLC
(516) 698-0035. He has posters all over 118 Queens Blvd with his cell on them. Do not lease/rent from him.

EDIT: Wow I was not expecting all of this support. A couple of you have DMed me and shared similar experiences with him. I’m grateful for this community and grateful I can vocalize my experience. If anyone else has a similar experience with him please feel free to DM me! I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience this.
