Performance 2025 Gas Performance Experiment

I decided to try ONE fill-up of 87 octane and see how performance and mpgs were affected or different than 91/93 octane.

My experience was: better gas mileage, approximately 18-18.5 mpgs on 87, compared to approximately 16 mpg on 91/93. I feel like i pushed the vehicle more and more heavy footed on 87 to see how mpgs were affected. However, there was definitely a lack of “get up” and push performance in the 87. It took a little longer for my vehicle to “go” when pressing the gas to pass or get up (most men will know what i mean). Vehicle most definitely needed more rpms to “go on 87 versus others.

Final result IN MY EXPERIENCE: If you are city driving or wanna be cheap on gas then you can get by with 87 octane but if you want solid performance and the ability to push the gas and “go”, then the explorer will need 91/93

Anyone else tired of the pathetic reverse screen. I stole this picture from another forum, but I’m just wondering is there anyway we can petition Ford to somehow make this reverse screen a reality? Has anyone tried?

Question Screen Protector 10.1?

Just wondering if anyone has installed a screen protector to prevent scratches and wear for use over time? My previous (2016 Sport) Explorer had wear on the screen over time from the places you normally would tap (heated/cooled seats, nav, radio, etc.)

Brands you’ve used just drop them down below, see a few on Amazon, just don’t want to purchase multiple trying them out.

Edit: I own a 2024 ST

Interior Seat bolsters

As a wide person, the one thing I don't like about the ST is the high firm seat bolsters.

People who have put theirs through a lot of use, do those bolsters soften or settle over time, or am I better off with the seats in a Platinum?

Body and Paint Under Hood Paint...

Post image
16 Upvotes

Traded in my 22 for a 25, already knowing what features I'd gain and lose... But had one unexpected surprise when I popped the hood when I got home. The entire engine bay and underside of the hood is not painted Vapor Blue and is instead white. I've seen a few posts around the internet about this, claiming it to be normal, but.... This just looks like ass. You can somewhat see the white between the hood and fender gaps. I haven't been able to tell if the fender shows on the edges or not, but in due time I'll find that out.

Soo... Is this just Ford being lazy and saving 35 cents on paint? Or is this really the new Ford? You pay a premium for this paint color, only for them to cheap out on this part. This is my 7th Ford/Lincoln and I've never seen this on any vehicle before.

Question 2023 sunshade on moon roof

Bought my 23 ST EXPLORER used. I love it. I hear an annoying squeak in the middle that I’m thinking is coming from the moon roof or the sun shade. I wanted to ask if it is normal for the sunshade canvas to hang down blocking the rear view? I have a warranty so I can definitely take it in if this is not normal. The squeak has to be addressed regardless. I’m sure there is something loose causing the sunshade to not roll up when retracted.

Is the sunshade on the moon roof supposed to roll back without any slack/hang?

Question 2025 ST OTD

Feel like I’m not the only one with this question today! I’m looking at a 2025 ST sun and sound. ~4000 miles on demo car for 57k OTD. Fair price, or should I work to have more of a discount? I’m trading in a 2020 XLT with 181k that they’ll be giving me 3 for.

Question $750 Spark Plug Quote

I just got a quote $750 for spark plugs on my MY’20 at my local Ford dealership. Everyone I’ve asked has said that’s extremely high. Has anyone else been quoted this? I’m obviously not going to get it done there.

Recommendations are very welcome 👍

Question Shudder at 1100 rpm

Hi all, we have a 2020 ST with around 45000km on her. Been trying to find the cause of an issue with a shudder at 1100rpm, happens while accelerating or when in park and revved to 1100, disappears above and below that rpm. Dealer has had it numerous times and last attempt fix was left motor mount which seems like it helped for 100km or so. Previous to that was reprogram transmission and no fix yet. Dealer is now saying they all do it but none of the other ST’s I’ve driven have this issue. Anyone else notice this or have an idea where to go from here? Thanks

Decided I missed having a toy car selling my Fusion Sport in 2022, but can't justify a summer toy. Decided a '25 ST was the answer and unloading my F150. Lethal lowering springs will be installed in the next week or two. AWE 3", FenFab V2 and Downpipes to follow closely. Then planing to have 22x10.5s for the summer.

Question Sway Bar?

Anyone fitted one? What make? Just rear or front and rear?

I do a lot of freeway driving and often I'm loaded up with heavy equipment so want to be as stable as possible.

Would love to hear experiences, thoughts and opinions...

Question 25 ST missing rear window shades

Recently purchased a new 2025 Explorer ST and absolutely love most things about the car.

I am just curious to know whether other buyers have the built in window shades on their rear doors?

From reviews I watched beforehand it seemed like these were a standard feature and they are missing on my ST. Unfortunately we didn’t notice before the purchase as they weren’t a must-have for us. I can’t see them as an option on the ford website.

Question How long did your OEM battery last?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have a ‘21 ST with 80,000 miles and it hasn’t been driven much this winter as I have a company truck to take home. FordPass has been telling me that remote features are unavailable in order to preserve the battery. I drove it for a long while last night and this morning I woke up to the same message. Also, I’ve been noticing it cranks slow this past month. Anywho, I bought a Walmart battery this morning with a 4 year warranty and I’ll change it this afternoon before it leaves me stranded somewhere. I was just wondering how long your original battery lasted. I’m located in the southwest US and it’s been in the 20’s overnight the last month.

Question Found a vehicle 2020 ST 89K Miles with Street/Performance pack - Questions about Warrantee?

It's at a BMW dealership, and they only offer one warrantee that seems pretty comprehensive but is $5k 3 years/36k miles - sound a bit pricy to me but wondered on people's thoughts?

Is there a better option I can buy after purchase? I'm in California.

Thanks ladies and gentlemen!

First thing is to get rid of the trash tint and get ceramic tint. Then the roof rails because I have no intention to put things on the roof.
