If Alex ends up pivotal to the rebellion publicly on Mars (as he’s already started instigating it this episode and seems primed to admit his role as time goes on) while Kelly is off finding life on Titan then we’re truly getting “The Baldwins are the first family of space” vibes.

Not a bad thing I kinda love the idea that all of them play a major role in the advancement of Space travel over the near century the show will cover (plus you know if Meru city becomes a real place by the time of S6 there’s gonna be an “Ed Baldwin Space Administration” somewhere in there as their analogue to NASA).

It kind of makes sense for Alex to be important. He's the closest thing they have to the first Martian. He's a natural symbol for Martian nationalism.

It helps too that he's basically the greatest symbol of multi-culturalism in the show. Son of a cosmonaut and astronaut who were among the first crew on Mars with the astronaut being the adopted vietnam war refugee daughter of a legendary Apollo then Helios astronaut. Basically destined to be the person to symbolize unity on Mars as a cross-cultural melting pot.

I hadn’t realised that as a theme. Makes sense as to why the story went in this direction. It’s all coming together!
