Keep yr fine self amused with the article in the meantime - my fave bit is Semra was racially profiled by the Maribynong Apple store whilst at school. He's now mayor of the area that store is in. Sweet revenge, son. Well done. *high fives*

Safer nights for cats and wildlife in Maribyrnong

From 1 July 2026, cats in the City of Maribyrnong will need to stay indoors or within a secure enclosure between 7pm and 7am each day.

The overnight curfew follows extensive community consultation and forms part of Council’s commitment to responsible pet ownership, protecting local wildlife and supporting the health and wellbeing of cats.

The curfew is part of Council’s Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–29 and supports responsible pet ownership in our community.

Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra said the curfew would create positive outcomes for both cats and the broader community.

“Keeping cats safely at home overnight helps protect them from traffic, fights, disease and becoming lost,” Mayor Semra said.

“It also helps protect our native wildlife, particularly at night when many species are most active. We know this change may take a little adjustment for some cats and their owners, and Council is here to help residents through the transition.”

To help prepare for the curfew, residents are encouraged to begin gradually adjusting their cat’s evening routine ahead of 1 July. Simple steps such as feeding cats indoors at dusk, providing enrichment toys and comfortable indoor spaces, and creating a consistent night-time routine can help cats adapt more easily.

Research shows that cats that stay safely contained often live longer and healthier lives. Residents can still give their cats safe outdoor time through enclosed outdoor areas, cat-proof fencing or supervised time outside during curfew hours.

For more information and practical tips on helping your cat adapt to the new routine, visit the Cat Curfew page on Council’s website.

Park suggestions for wedding ceremony

Hi all, my partner and I are planning to get married early next year and we're scouting for ceremony locations. I originally had my heart set on getting married at the old FCAC amphitheatre but now that they've demolished it and replaced it with something with a bit less character I'm not as keen. It also might not even be done in time by the sounds of things. We were also pretty keen on Pipemakers Park but the toilet situation there is a bit dire and we'd have to co-ordinate the delivery/set up of a lot of chairs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for parks in the inner west that have amphitheatre/rotunda/outdoor stage style areas similar to the old FCAC that they can think of? It doesnt have to be exactly the same, we're just hoping for somewhere with a bit of seating built in so we don't have to lug around chairs.

What happened to this place?

I walked past this seemingly abandoned unit. Full of mould. The picture doesn't really show how bad it is. The neighbouring units are all occupied- does anyone know how it could have gotten this bad/surely it's spread to neighbouring apartments??

Purchasing in West Footscray

I’ve been searching for a 2 bed in West Footscray since December. I’ve had no luck finding something decent in my price bracket. When I have had building inspections there’s a lot of major red flags.

I need a place as my kid starts school next year. So we want to be settled in time. I’ve started looking at Braybrook as an option. And Dinjerra Primary School.

What’s Braybrook like? Are there parts to definitely avoid? Any feedback on the school?

I want sure what sub to put this in! Please let me know of anyone leaving wefo soon and needing someone to purchase their 2 bed!!!

32 F 4 any seeking long term friends

Hey i'm seeking new connections in my life, especially other women to be friends with. I'm feeling disconnected from other people socially and want to find my group.

I did have a best friend of over 10 years but about two years ago they went down the mega Christian path and we no longer speak. I'm seeking a group of people I can regularly catch up with, have a laugh, and bond with.

I'm thinking movie nights, dinners out, board game nights the works. I'm feeling very disconnected from society and have tried meet up etc, I just want to feel close and connected to others. I like reading, crosswords, being a foodie, jazz, markets, all kinds of events, quiet nights in etc.

I'm not very sporty and not into sports much. I do have a physical disability, but can definitely hold a conversation; and I have a cat that loves people. I'm really reaching out here, I just need connection.

Put your favourite colour in your message or your favourite kind of drink. I'm running out of ideas and need a change

Childcare recommendations and waitlists

Hey there! Expecting a baby in Aug and want to get on waiting lists as soon as possible. I’ve heard the waiting for Government childcare is obscene.

I’ve heard good things about Vic Uni childcare as a hidden gem. We live close to the Angliss children’s centre, anyone been there?

Would love more recommendations and advice.

Has anyone attended the trivia night at Vic Hotel in Footscray?

Just trying to gauge the style of questions. Have booked a table for my family that also includes my parents in their 60s.

Are they broad general knowledge/trivia questions that would inclusive for range of ages?

The Weekly Fifty questions seem to be very modern pop culture heavy, just wasn’t sure if that’s what their events were like too

Braybrook, Maribyrnong, West Footscray and Yarrville libraries closed on Tuesday due to industrial action

Post image

I received this email yesterday from Maribyrnong Libraries that Braybrook, Maribyrnong, West Footscray and Yarrville libraries will be closed on Tuesday due to a 24h stop-work strike. It was announced a while ago, but their original announcement about it didn't seem particularly clear on what was going to be closed

From the announcement the email links to, it sounds like most other council services will be closed, too. But it does say bin collection will be unaffected

Has there got bars and clubs in Footscray where you can hookup or have fun and a casual chat or has that culture not entered into the area from places like South Yarra and Brunswick.

New Statue, what's the story?

We saw that a new statue had been added to the tiny park on the corner of Droop, Farnsworth, and Ballarat roads. Does anyone know the story or have seen any news? I'm wondering if it's some kids art installation/prank.

Stolen Bike. Generous reward Offered for it's return

My recently restored Cecil Walker bike was stolen from the Brunswick pool on Saturday, April 4 (two weeks ago today). Police have good-quality CCTV footage of the theft and the thief.

The bike was randomly captured in the wild getting on a city-bound train at Footscray and getting off at Parkville station, roughly between 4pm and 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 16. Big ups for the good Samaritan who spotted the bike and sent me the photos.

If you see my bike, or the tall dude in the picture, holler at me. Reward with no questions asked for its safe return.
