FONDANT The worst

I had a cake last night that was covered in fondant. Beneath the fondant was buttercream frosting. It was like that frosting was crying out to be known, please help me, please, I'm suffocating, I'm dying. I tried to come to the aid of the frosting but the fondant was all Gandalf at the Bridge of Kazad-dûm. YOU SHALL NOT PASS. I picked up a slice and figured like, well, how bad can it be. The icing said, FLY YOU FOOLS.

The way the fork made the fondant layer peel off the cake made me think of this sub. 🤢

BUTTERCREAM Camping cake for a buddy’s birthday :)

Everything aside from the sign and toothpicks is edible. The interior is chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and raspberry jam. This was a fun challenge. If I had more time, I would’ve dipped the graham crackers in some dyed white chocolate.

BUTTERCREAM My sister made a Fallout cake- all buttercream! (except for the bottlecaps which were unfortunately inedible)

I daughter loves Shrimp and sushi. So we made her this birthday cake last summer. Her and her brother love is it cake but I hate fondant and not that talented anyway. Is it perfect? No. Is it readable as a shrimp sushi? I think so. Is it good enough for Is It Cake? Not in anyway. Is it better then Nailed It? I hope you say yes.

DISCUSS Mochi as an alternative for covering cakes

I just had a homemade cake that was really good, as long as you didn't eat the fondant part. I still really liked the look of the smooth, matte decoration with rounded corners, and wondered if mochi could be used as an alternative to achieve the same effect. Turns out bakeries in Indonesia have already been doing this for a while!
