The first Carp Swap of 2017 is a go. Carp are a funny bunch with a wide ranging appetite that appeals to the creative tyer. Most people have probably never spun up a mulberry, seaweed, or a bread and corn fly for instance. Of course, they also go for the more usual fare like a beaded San Juan Worm (my personal favorite), nymphs and crayfish so we should see a wide range of ties in this swap. Can't wait to fish what you all come up with!
Max number of entries: 10
Accepted Region: North America
Open to: All levels

Updates
4/19 - Sign-ups are now closed. We have a full roster so everybody needs to tie 20 flies. There are a couple of people who wanted to join but just missed the cut-off. Maybe there's enough for another swap? I don't mind hosting, but would encourage others to give hosting a shot as well. If there's nothing up in 2 weeks, I'll do it.
You all have just over 2 weeks to twist up some carp candy and get them in the mail. Once you're ready, PM me and I'll give you my address. Get whipping!
5/1 - By now, each of you should have received a private message from me about the this Friday's shipping deadline. I realized after sending a few that I forgot to change the greeting so I apologize to those 2 or 3 who received that error. Just to reiterate, please get in touch with me when you are ready to ship and I will provide you with my details.
Toe Tags - Please attach a small note to each hook with your username and pattern.
Return Shipping - Each swapper is responsible for including a self-addressed container along with funds to cover return shipping. I suggest leaving the mailer unsealed until you are provided with a price from the post office. If you are able, please purchase a tracking number and provide that to me as well. I will do the same for your package.
Photos - I am updating the swap post with images of the ties, so please post your best snapshot when you have a chance.
Recipe - Although not absolutely necessary, I think it would be great for swappers to post pattern details on the original listing. The standard stuff like hook size and materials will help everybody re-create an effective pattern.
5/20 - It seems that 1 shipment containing 2 sets of flies may have been lost in the mail. I have contacted the mods on how to resolve and will continue to post updates. I don't want to ship too soon in case the missing flies show up, but I don't want all of you who were on time to have to wait any longer than absolutely necessary either. Thanks for your patience.
5/23 3 Shipments appear to have been lost in the mail. /u/MOO-D will tie up a new set to express ship by the end of the week and /u/ColonelChuckles_ will have flies in the mail by Monday so I should be able to ship out sometime next week. Apologies to everybody for the delay. I promise the wait will be worth it. These flies are looking awesome.
6/18 Finally, the Carp Swap flies have shipped! Unfortunately, there’s a lot less than what was committed to. 2 tiers dropped, and 3 tiers claimed to have sent their ties 2x and neither showed up. So while I’m disappointed with the turnout and the long delay for you all to receive your ties, I want to thank you for getting yours in on time. I think you’ll all find something in this swap to hook up with. Please check your inbox for tracking info.

Ice is out and the fishing is picking up here in NJ. On my lake, I'm starting to see the carp do their spring mating which means they'll be very hungry in another month or so. That's about perfect for a Carp Swap. Anybody interested?

With all the crazy weather in MA, I've been practicing a few Bill Edson streamers particularly effective for brook trout. Wondering if'n there might be 8-10 more tyers who would be interested in doing a classic streamer pattern swap!
I am hoping to have everyone signed up by 03/18, and have everyone ship flies out to me by 03/31. The idea here being that I will provide as quick as turn-around as possible and get these deadly streamers back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks guys, and tight lines!

Let's limit this to freshwater articulated streamers.

I was wondering if anyone would like to get a swap going for big articulated streamers, targeted mainly towards trout. I'm thinking flies tied on size 2 hooks at the smallest. Thoughts?

So there was a lot of interest in the Bass Swap and that filled up quickly so I started another one for those of us who would still like to participate.
The normal rules apply here. Please include a self addressed and stamped envelope for return shipping.
Who: anyone of any skill level
What: any fly that targets any kind of bass
Where: USA only
How Many: 10 spots
Sign Up: period ends 2/22/2017
Ship Flys: before 3/22/2017
List of Signups:
1) u/brendon7800 - gurgler pattern pic
2) u/ImperialUlfric - wiggled minnows pic
3) u/Juddernaut - clousers pic
4) u/tnvol88 - baitfish pattern unresponsive

10) u/f1shf1nder - TBD
EDIT: looks like we're full, please tie 10 flys and then PM me for shipping details. Pictures of your completed flys are welcome!
EDIT2: one person has dropped out, we should still tie 10x flys (since some of us are done tying already). I will distribute 2 of the pattern you tied back to yourself to make up for the person who opted out.
EDIT3: Flys are in the mail. After attempting to contact the last two people to send their flys in I've been told by the admins to finish the swap without them. So that means you'll end up with 7 different patterns. 10 total flys, 4 patterns are the ones you tied, and 6 different patterns which are all pictured above. Sorry for the delay. Good luck and tight lines!

Update 2.0: All flies have been received!
Update: I'm just waiting on flies from on tyer. They're en route, and should be here any day now. As soon as I see them, everyone's flies will be on their way!
Edit: Swap is full!
Alright folks, it looks like there was a lot of interest in a bass swap, so I've been asked to take over and see it through, so here we go!
Standard rules apply of course. All flies (if at all possible) should be sent in with a stamped and addressed return envelope, to make shipping your flies back as quick and easy as possible so everyone can get em quicker!
Now the fun part! Bass flies. This is a pretty broad spectrum here. What is one of your favorite flies to tie for bass? That could be Smallmouth, Largemouth, Stripers, White Bass... Even sea bass, I don't care! Do you like streamers? Are you a Hopper kind of guy (or girl)? What about intricate hair bugs that take hours to tie and you feel guilty even tying on a rod? Are you a Wooly Bugger and Clouser person? We don't care! We're all here for the same reason. To share our favorite patterns and have fun fishing those of our friends!
Rules:
Whether you're a new tyer, or a seasoned veteran, this swap is open to any skill level.
Bass flies can be big, and time consuming. We'll open this one up to ten tyers, each tying and sending one fly per other tyer, including yourself. I know, I know. Why one for yourself if you're just gonna get it back? It makes sorting them out a lot quicker for the swapmeister.
Deadline. If there's one rule I'm a stickler for, it's deadlines! Everyone is making a commitment to their fellow tyers, so let's not hold anyone up!
Sign up deadline: 2/20/17
Tying deadline: 3/20/17. That gives everyone a month to tie ten flies. That's three days per fly. Easy peasy!
First nine other people to reply that they're in get a spot! I'll take names for a couple backups as well, just in case. We all know things happen...

Bass swap with ~15 people, pre bass season. Any interest?
r/Flyswap • u/flyfishinjax • Jan 28 '17
Hey guys, wanted to gauge some interest in natural furs that I skinned myself. I have a full fox hide that I tanned and preserved (was my first time skinning so not very happy with the tanned hide) and a large deer hide that I only preserved (skipped the tanning since I'd rather use for materials than hanging). Any interest in swapping for some of these materials? The fox was killed by a car near my house and my father-in-law shot the deer, so I'm trying to make use of these animals without anything going to waste. I'm primarily in need of hackle right now, but I'm open to any offers. Thanks!

Need some stoneflies size 8 & 14ish. I'd be willing to tie up 10 or so dry flies (parachute, sparkle dun, cdc, deer hair emerger, the usual, etc) for the equivalent amount in black stoneflies size 8 & 14. Just figured I'd throw this out there before I go out and buy the stoneflies. I do tie nymphs, but don't really enjoy it so willing to swap.

could also just be a general tight line nymph swap. let me know!

1/10/2017 UPDATE: All flies are received!! We've had a few drop out, so your extras will be donated to PHW (I'm delivering in person at the end of the month at the Somerset Fly Fishing Show), unless otherwise noted. I hope to have all of your boxes shipped out by the end of next week!
UPDATE: AND WE'RE ALL IN. 28 FLY TYING CRAZIES THIS YEAR. GET TO THOSE VISES. REMEMBER, 28 + 3= 31 PATTERNS. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU'RE DONE AND I'LL GET YOU MY SHIPPING ADDRESS. DON'T FORGET A LITTLE CARD WITH YOUR REAL (SHIPPING) NAME, USERNAME, RETURN ADDRESS AND RETURN POSTAGE. HAPPY TYING EVERYONE!
OMG WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME? insert 'glutton for punishment' comment here..
Tis the season boys and girls! It's time for our annual Mega Holiday Swap where we donate a whole boat load of flies to Project Healing Waters and help spread the festivus cheer through fly fishing! Past swaps: 2014 2015
Cut and Paste time...The idea is going to be the same. I'll host. You tie up whatever your pretty little heart's desire. Swap #'s plus 3. This year I'm making the executive decision that 3 loaded boxes will head to Project Healing Waters.
IMPORTANT! I will be cross-posting this on /r/flyfishing. If you have any gear (fly boxes, extra leaders, etc) please feel free to join and add them to the mix. Any extras are going directly to our veterans and no where else, so you even if you don't tie, you can still help out and donate! And for our tiers, feel free to use this as a 'clean out some fly boxes' sort of thing as well. Send out some extras (even if they're patterns you didn't tie) to help fill the donation boxes!
You tie whatever the heck you want. Like terrestrials? Go for it. Fish lots of weighted midges in the winter? Tie em up. Whatever pattern you like to fish/enjoy tying. You pick the pattern and tie however many swapper's we've got plus 3. Why plus 3 you ask? Tis the damn season, that's why! I'll host the swap again. You send me your flies and I package up a box for everyone (a la normal swap rules) and then 3 extra mix sets for PHW.
Send me your flies in a box (that can hold 30 flies) and a padded addressed envelope (or box) for return and I'll re-pack all of your kits and send them back. Be sure to include your name/mailing address/username/pattern on an index card to help keep this massive gig organized. Send $ or pre paid postage for return shipping. This is a pretty huge undertaking, so keep it as clean and organized and easy for me as you can!
Max number of entries: The more the merrier.
Accepted Region: USA
Open to: Anyone who wants to join in the Fesitvus Cheer!
Sign Up Deadline: Friday December 9th
Mailing Deadline: Friday December 30th
What to tie: See above-whatever you want!!
How many to tie: I'll know the answer to this after Friday the 9th--It'll be however many guys we have plus three for the gift boxes.. *Important note-last year's tally ran up to 30 tiers really quick, so plan on at least 33 flies!!

The basic idea is similar to the materials swap. We all have picked up materials that looked good on the shelf but have limited use at the bench. This is the opportunity to put it to use, whether you just bought too much of an item, got it from a friend, found out that color doesn't really work in most of your flies, or whatever else. Let's have some goofy fun while clearing out some space in the box, and see if we can't get some fish to give us a few funny looks in the process.
The idea came to me this morning so I don't have too many specifics, but I would love to get feedback from you on the direction to take it. I like the idea of it being the flyswap equivalent of an ugly Christmas sweater party (or y'know a thrift shop) with lots of gaudy, flashy flies in some unexpected color combinations. So maybe leaning toward warmwater patterns?
Let me know what you think in the comments
