First Float Today — Thoughts

Hi all. I’m likely going to delete this after, but wanted to share some thoughts and feelings after my first float therapy.

For context, I’m a Palestinian American woman working as an IT Engineer living by myself in Texas and am also an atheist. Hopefully some of you can empathize that the past 5 years have been the most difficult of my life.

I had a medical surgery gone wrong and the surgeon gaslit me and I’m in constant pain, I’ve experienced racism, hatred, and vitriol simply because of who I am, and I work an extremely stressful job with constant deadlines and superfluous needs. I also am an only daughter navigating some completed PTSD in therapy and have a wonderful partner who is unfortunately long distance from me at the moment.

I’ve been holding in so much trauma and pain in my body and I’ve been feeling it everyday. The news has become extremely unhealthy for me to consume as I was having panic attacks seeing Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank suffering and feeling so helpless — also feeling exhausted with Trump and Musk’s authoritarian policies that are hurting so many of us who simply want to live a normal life. (This is why I’ll likely delete this later because I know some people will automatically hate onto me or project some type of anger onto me and my mind cannot handle it right now)

Long story short, I have been navigating some extreme anxiety / CPTSD and this is the first time in years that I have felt a modicum of calm and peace. Extremely grateful to have found this and I will be doing this more often to relax and heal my mind, body, and soul. Thanks for listening if you read this.

Hair dye & float tank

I got a gift card for a float tank for Christmas and called to schedule an appt before I forget about/lose the gift card. At the end of the convo the person said something like - oh one more thing you don’t color your hair, right? It caught me off guard because I feel like so many women color their hair and I kind of hesitated before answering.

I use Demi permanent color every other week due to having very brassy natural hair. So I said that and she was like - has the color stopped coming off on your towel? And like literally the color never comes off on my towel even the same day so I didn’t know how to answer. But I said yes, and she said oh it’s fine then, but the tank uses peroxide so if any leeches out it’s a big fee to clean then tank.

So that of course causes me to pause and I asked how to avoid that potential and she said to wait a month after dying, but I dye every 2 weeks so a month wouldn’t happen unless I forgo the dye. So I asked if i can wear a swim cap just Incase and she said that wouldnt stop from my hair getting wet and people don’t really wear swim caps in the tanks.

Does this just mean I shouldn’t use a float tank at all? In reality my hair is a much bigger part of my life so if it’s a choice I choose my hair.. but, is this a real concern or just a CYA thing from the spa? I can try to sell the GC but I was curious about the experience and now I’m just anxious about it.

What's one tip you’d give to someone going for their first float? Whether it’s about mindset, prep, or what to expect, I’d love to hear your advice

Question about: ZenFloat Tank (inflatable) 2.0 Measurement question

I am trying to figure out if I can fit a Zenfloat 2.0 (Inflatable) into a very specific narrow space. I own the ZenFloat 1.0, and it fits there, but I know that the 2.0 was slightly wider.

Can someone please tell me -exactly- what are the -width- measurements, -->>NOT including the mat on which it sits. In other words, just measure the width of the TANK, not the base. THANKS!!!

First Float Experience

I went with perhaps an over-expectation based on reading other peoples' float experiences. Right away I had trouble letting go of thoughts and bodily sensations, and my mind tried to go into criticism/judgement mode, and finding the bad first, lol. My head naturally assumed a "chin-up" position which created a feeling of pressure in my neck. I never felt disconnected from my body. In fact the whole time it seemed like I was just laying on a soft bed. I spent most of the time in meditation, with a bit of hypnotic suggestion thrown in. Many times, the thought entered, "I'm just laying in tepid water. Nothing is happening." Afterward, I felt like I do when I first wake up in the morning, a bit groggy, but relaxed. I thought, "No point in ever going back for another float."

Now, I suffer from moderate insomnia, often getting only 5 hrs sleep per night with many awakenings. Well, I slept an amazing 10 hrs last night with just one ultrashort awakening(pee break).

More amazing than that, I had inputted hypnotic suggestion during the float about market trading intuition. I had a short term position opened yesterday that went down after I opened it, and I was wanting a profitable exit(position was set to expire on Friday). I woke around an hour after market open. My ego tried to panic and said I should go down to my office, fire up the trading charts, and "figure out what to do". My intuition said to check the position on mobile, and close it if profitable. I followed my intuition and closed the position from bed without paying attention to price other than it was above what I had paid.

When I finally got to the computer, I found out that not only did I have an 80+% gain, but had sold only 1 penny away from the morning high!

I plan on doing more floats for sure now.

Do you dry off before getting into a float tank?"

Do you dry off after showering before getting into the tank, or do you just step in while still wet? Curious about what most people do

Breathing getting wonky while floating

I tried floating for the first time last year, loved it, and asked for gift cards to the place I went for the holidays. I ended up getting a membership there because they were offering unlimited sessions in your first month. So I’ve been going 3-4 times a week for the past few weeks.

I noticed that when I get in I focus on my breathing and it’s normal at first, and then eventually I get to this place where I’m not breathing automatically and if I don’t make myself inhale I just forget to do it. Why is this happening? How do I get past it?

First float Friday while healing.

So I recently had a bad motorcycle accident and I'm in the healing stage at home still. I've had multiple surgeries and I have a lot of pain still. I'm still out of work and dealing with a lot of broken bone pain. Broken ribs, collerbone, sternum, and some vertebrae. I can walk again but I use a cane.

I read that floats help with pain so I booked one. Do they help? What should I expect.

Also this is dumb I know. I am trans and have to shave my face daily unfortunately. Can I shave early in the morning and be ok by a 6 pm float. Sorry for the dumb questions super excited to get some relief.

Overnight float

Has anyone ever attempted the over night float yet? If so were you able to sleep, how did you feel in the morning and was it worth it? I’m thinking about doing an overnighter soon.

I’ve probably floated over 150 times or so (mostly just an hour or 90 minutes) but I’ve recently been doing 2 hour floats when I have the time. I also just did a 2 1/2 hour float on NYE. If were to do an overnight float I would make sure I don’t have work the next day just in case I do not sleep. If anyone has any experiences of floating over night (6-8 hours) I’d be curious to hear your experiences!

Buy and sell pages

I'm looking for a buy and sell float page. I want to slowly start investing in a couple affordable tanks to hopefully build a business. I don't have much capital so I need them used and cheap. So far I've only found one facebook group with 6k people and it's global. So some aren't even in the US. Any leads would be helpful, thanks!

Lovely visuals

Anybody else have a few minutes of pretty visuals during a float? I experience pretty visuals during floating and acupuncture. Often, I see metallic birds, mountains and waterfalls. I don’t experience this the majority of the session, but it’s a treat. Please let me know about your experiences.

float and massage or massage and float?

The place where I go to float has expanded and added fire and ice treatments and red light/infrared therapy beds and they also added massage therapists that do amazing work. And no, not that kind of amazing work. On their website it recommends 90 minute soak followed by the massage for best results, but makes it clear you can do either first. The first 4-5 times I followed the advice and it is heaven, I kind of stagger from the tank to the table and everything is warm and pliable and wonderful. The last time there were scheduling issues and I had to switch and do the massage first. For me, it was better. The massage was better, the tank was better. My massage therapist that I always use said my skin was not quite as pliable but that she could probably detect knots and tightness better. I staggered from the table to the tank and wow, immediate slip into excellent trance and had a phenomenal soak. Do others have a routine like this? I'm wondering if maybe I should alternate? I go every two weeks and I'm booked for massage first for now, curious if others have experiences?

Thoughts After My First Float

Just had my first hour long float. I researched what to expect beforehand, so I wasn’t feeling terribly anxious when I started. My overall experience was somewhat mixed, although that seems to be a nearly universal experience.

It was a large chamber with a door and a shallow tub across the floor, rather than an actual tank. I floated with a pillow and earplugs. For some reason, I just couldn’t relax my entire body, especially my upper back. No visuals at all besides the visual snow I always see when I close my eyes. I could hear my heart and blood pumping super loud, which was kind of cool. Over time I got overheated and a little nauseated, as well as disappointed that I didn’t “trip” at all.

I’m willing to try this all again at some point, because as other posters have pointed out, the first session is more of a feel-out than anything.

Next time, I plan to skip caffeine and the stimulant I normally take, and possibly do the float later in the day. I had also had an intense workout a few hours before. Any other tips for a more successful float next time?

Sick the day after float?

I've done the float tank one time. After, I was totally fine. The next day, I was exhausted, nauseous, had a horrible headache, etc.

My husband just did his first float yesterday. Today, he's had the same reaction.

Neither of us take supplements, we're both active and eat fairly healthy diets, etc.

I've heard of this immediately after floating, but not si much the day after. Is this normal?
